wow it was the perfect tutorial!!! thank you sooo much!! I had three teachers and none really explained it to me... all of them kind of took for granted how the arms and feet move in the balancé. Again than you!

I’m taking ballet classes, I’m 52. This is one of those steps that I am really having a difficult time with. It looks so graceful and so easy but it’s not easy! Lol. I break it down step by step and get it, but when I put it together it falls apart. I feel like a horse trying to prance. Lol. So frustrating. The other students got it the first class and are now doing spins with it. Here’s Lisa doing her best impression of a horse.

Balancé, walking, and running are some of the most challenging to look graceful. They're so close to our default motor pattern of walking, so it's really easy for our brain to go back to "human mode" and then end up mixing normal walking with dancing. That's when it really starts to feel like it's falling apart. You might try these videos to keep practicing/learning different tips and tricks for the waltz & moving your legs in "ballet mode" aka turned out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWGacq1uhb1nkJI kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKiQhp1jiK1srMk kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2m3oJeKhMxribc

I would like to see you demonstrate with music. Lovely video. Very helpful. I find myself kind of jumping to the front foot, landing in coupe then rocking. When the tempo is up is it more of a jump or still a step?
@BrocheBallet

Yup! When the tempo speeds up it’s a little more of a jump. We’d love to consider this for a future video! Thanks for the suggestion ☺️

Hey Thank you! I have ballet experience but-- I think I learned this INcorrectly the first time. 'Practice makes Permanent, NOT perfect.' Now at least you have explained it so I don't feel like a Complete idiot -- Thanks! I'm in Chicago but if ever in Denver, have noted your school. Thank you! - joy

I can stand with my legs turned out, but when I start moving, I instantly lose all of my turnout. Any suggestions on how to avoid/prevent this?
@BrocheBallet
@BrocheBallet 4 жыл бұрын
That's a really great question! Transferring your weight ONTO a turned out leg is so much harder than simply standing on a turned out leg. It's sort of the crux of ballet to be able to dance on turned out legs! We'll work on a video to try to explain this whole concept. For now, I'd recommend practicing ballet walks (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWGacq1uhb1nkJI) to practice transferring your weight onto a turned out leg!

I just lightly sprained my ankle doing a balancé whilst doing a centre class video. So I’ve come to this video to master it. I love ballet but I have two left feet🥺😩
@BrocheBallet
@BrocheBallet 4 жыл бұрын
Rest up and make sure to take care of that ankle! Keep practicing, and you'll start to learn how to work through those two left feet. It's SO common for us adult dancers to come into the studio with 2 lefties :)

I’m right there with you. I love to dance but have found when taking a ballet class I can’t get out of my head and dance. I seem to be really focused on the steps and technique part of it and just can’t put it together and dance. It’s so frustrating for me. I question why I’m even taking classes at this point. The other adults in class are leaving me behind as far as how fast they are learning it.
