Yo! On 3:06 the background song is the instrumental version of "BITE ME" by NEFFEX! He's my all-time favourite artist and I instantly recognized his music. I love your videos too, I started watching you like 4 months ago and the mixing & mastering on my songs is on another level thanks you your tips! Keep up the great work man! 💛

What's Your Take on Mastering for an A-Lister like Bob Horn vs a Non-A-Lister? and what are the Major Differences in Mixes between A-Lister vs a Non-A-Lister?
@panorama_mastering Жыл бұрын
I think the major differences between mastering for someone who absolutely NAILS the mix vs someone who leaves something to be desired is that; when a mix is NAILED; it becomes a difficult exercise of restraint and being exceptionally discerning in order to bring about the necessary decisions required to finalise the master; when a mix has room for improvement; or leaves gaps there to fill; it's easy to make changes

From best guess... what is the average levels those legend tier mixers send the final mix file or session to you? Listening to Bob Horn, its sounds like he is only leaving you maybe -3db to play with cause it sounds like a final end product.

pretty sure he made a video on this, since all files are sent and loaded digitally nowadays, it doesn't matter how much headroom the mixing engineer leaves. If the file is 24bit, just make sure it's not clipping above 0dbfs, if it's 32bit, you can pretty much go as far as you want above zero and the mastering engineer can just turn it down. "Leaving headroom for mastering" is just straight up not necessary anymore.

Bob Sends it anywhere from -9 to -12 Lufs; but also sends an alternate with 8dB of headroom; which is just that original mix gained down;

@@panorama_mastering Thanks both you and Robbe. I am a mix engineer and starting to advance in the world of mastering. For years (damn near 20) I have always been trained to leave the -3 to -6dbs. That may have been the old norm habit that I am trying to break, I just wanted to hear if any of my fellow engineers are still following the same. Bob would be considered my "OG" and I definitely take into consideration how he would hand off the final mix to you. I tend to try to add practices into my fold more than anything else so eventually once I feel comfortable in the realm of mastering, I can understand what to expect for a range of clients. Also, keep up the great work and you have definitely gained a follower both here and on your instagram.

@@robbeservaes3625 If Nic has a walkthrough I will definitely watch to see that angle. I can be considered graduate class of the hybrid generation where we did concole and some 'in the box' prints so I am breaking the headroom rules slowly. I can say within the last maybe 5 years I have jumped up to 32bit from 16 but never would have guessed that would have played a heavy role towards the mastering engineer, just so use to these stream outlets dropping them down bit rate and lufs level. Thanks for that extra gem fam!
