Badass, that's what I was asking you for! Indeed it's like music theory, one tend to overlook the fact that there's a whole diatonic scale in every octave of the spectrum, once you find the octave you can use the 3rd and 5th as guides too although often enough Ive found voices hovering around the 4th on major songs 😃👍

If I play a baritone guitar in Drop A and the tuning is also A, so the fundamental frequency will be somewhere below 60 hz, should I cut it or boost? And how did you decide which octaves should be boosted/attenuated?

@Kambiz.Mahdavi
@Kambiz.Mahdavi 3 жыл бұрын
Number 2 is the real secret, no doubt. I use Softube eq mp and I select linear phase option on it instead of dynamic one, sometimes I use Fabfilter eq3, if I cut more than boosting, can I change zero latency to minimum or other linear options? Because I use pro Q3 as subtracting eq and after mastering compressor and saturation, I use additive eq for shaping my mix, as you said, I do it before limiting.
@Kambiz.Mahdavi
@Kambiz.Mahdavi 3 жыл бұрын
Dear Sage audio, have you ever used Waves factory Spectre, if not, this is additive eq but with 10 models of saturation, I mean before boosting, you have to select one of them as tube tape warm rectify bit crusher and etc. I'm a new fan of this plugin and I don't have significant experience to show the others, but I'm sure that you will kill it 😂 I think that this plugin can solve all the problems of mix and the oversampling option on the left bottom of this plugin is very useful, Anyways, really tnx for your working hard and sharing your experiences with us. Regards.

Mastering is not a secret. Nore do ME’s care if you know every “secret”. It takes many years of training and a really good environment(good monitoring and a controlled room) to even start. Too many think it’s all secrets when it’s just eq,compression and limiting. Knowing when and why to do all of the above is the secret. That my friend takes time. Keep practicing and you will get there
@sageaudio
@sageaudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kambiz! Thanks for watching this one! The Eqing you're doing sounds like it would work well! Natural phase or Linear options should work well too. Also, we'll have to check out Spectre! I have a suggestion. When you are explaining a particular mastering processing in random, it would really help if you could also suggest where in the FX chain would that processing best fit into. For eg. in this video you suggested that we can boost frequencies which are in the key of the song. Where would you suggest we place this eq boost in the chain. would it help if we did it before the saturation or after? Before the Mid side eqing of the low end eq? Thank you.
@sageaudio

Thanks for watching this one and for your suggestion! That makes a lot of sense - we have some videos about chains in which that's discussed, but it couldn't hurt to include that info in other videos. SageAudio.com

An extreme example of EQ'ing with respect to key but it really served to illustrate the point. Harmonic distortion as EQ was also a nice angle on a common theme. 👏🎵 🎶

You might be running it too hot into the limiter. They tend to add brightness and reduce lows when pushed
@sageaudio
@sageaudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Zech! @Theo and @troeteimarch both make good points! It sounds like you might be distorting the signal if you're mastering is making things too harsh. Also, sometimes ess sounds/vocal sibilance sounds alright in a mix, but when pushed to louder levels can become really harsh and unpleasant. I'd say first check if your vocal sibilance is too loud and if so use a de-esser in your mix. Then be sure that you aren't hitting your limiter too hard, and use a slightly longer release time(100ms+) to avoid distortion. SageAudio.com

As a mixing engineer I love your videos, but as a musician my eyes almost popped out of my head when you said "The key of A# major." There is no such key to musicians. It's an enharmonic spelling of the common key of Bb major, which has two flats. A# major has TEN sharps, including three double sharps. A# B# C## D# E# F## G##. I'm pretty sure that no song has ever been written in that key, unless it was written by a sadomasochist. 🤣
