@@RVX-X9 Most of elitism is just networking, that is why they are required to be best on paper before admittance but never actually teach. Attendance is only about meeting people who can rope you into a job you want in the future when it is your mom or dad who paid extra to get you in to be a potential prospect. Many in schools to learn really do not learn and need to look elsewhere to advance. Nepotism is primary tool of elites. Most ordinary colleges may teach but on your own even with advanced talents and skills, you grind for recognition to earn money. Take Kamala Harris stepdaughter granted a contract as a model for example, it was based on elitism and networking and not on beauty. So, elites is based upon quality of networking but not about skill. It is all about who you know. In that way it does not matter what art school, but people associated with that school you want to hire you.

There are a couple students in a weekly figure drawing class that I take whose drawings have this sort of hyperrealistic textured quality to them, and I was completely bamboozled as to how they do it. While charcoal obviously differs in key ways from graphite, I am still glad I stumbled across this video, and I'll definitely try to establish a more robust foundation for my shading next time I'm in the studio. Thank you so much for this tutorial!

For cotton, I believe you simply must make crosshatches that follow your clothing’s shape, then, go over the crosshatches with a light, sharp eraser, then, you blend tiny dots of graphite onto the drawing, either that, or you use your eraser to make tiny dots on the shirt. For jeans, you do what you did with the cottons, but without little deposits of lint, maybe give it a slight bit more contrast. For sweaters, you shall blend in circular motions, make it as fluffy as you can, like a cloud. & with latex, you skip the textures, it is meant to look like rubber.

I've been teaching this method to my students for months now (They are all older, retired folks) and I've been trying to get through to them on how to hold their pencils, both tripod and overhand, as well as filling spaces with layers of values in different directions, and scumbling (small circles) to create textures. They're slowly improving with their basic forms, but it's time for me to get back into MY passion...Creatures!!!

Hi. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow wildlife artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). Just found you on KZbin and after watching this first video, I immediately sign up to your channel. Great realistic sketches and excellent explanation on shading different textures based on the subject (different animals). Besides scales, fur and feathers (which are a bit difficult due to all the detail you need to make them look real), one type of texture I always feel a bit more complex is wet shiny skin and fur, like a hippo in the water bathing in sunlight or an octopus that's sticking out on a rock under the sunlight and all wet and viscous, for example, and specially to get the wetness effect right while managing the light reflections of the water on top correctly. That would be a GREAT video to see on how to apply the proper shading technique. Again, thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge, and I will continue to watch the rest of the videos in your channel. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

@@bobbyrebholz2183 Do you think you will do more combining animals for creature design videos in the future?
@windserpent Жыл бұрын
I'm a fairly amature artist, but I can offer some animal insights since you asked about the kudu (and comments = engagement 😉). It is indeed a greater kudu (lesser kudu lack the beard). I believe the vulture is actually a Ruppell's, especially if you used a lower quality reference, which can make dark markings on the edges of the beak appear as shadows. The spiky lizard you focused heavily on is one of a group of species referred to as horned lizards, or more colloquially, horny toads. Your "monitor lizard" was what initially caught my attention, though I saw at least one comment mentioning that it was a tegu. They fill a similar ecological niche in Central and South America as monitors do in Africa and southern Asia. The darkened nose tells me your reference photo was most likely of a blue tegu or blue hybrid, both of which are somewhat common in the US reptile hobby. I saved this video to reference again to try and improve my 3D texture work, especially since I would like to create a very detailed scale texture for an otherwise fairly simple model. I don't always remember just how much traditional drawing techniques can (and often should!) be applied digitally. It's so easy to get impatient.
@michaeldougherty6036 Жыл бұрын
Very nice. You should speak a bit about the theory behind rendering things. Like, there is simply drawing what you see. Which is excellent. But "theory" is knowing how to draw what isn't necessarily there, to better convey what is. Rendering the spikes more darkly at the tips is a good example. It's why a good painting can convey depth, atmosphere, movement and weight better than an average photograph. Even if it is not painting every little detail.

Oh this video is such a gem! I'm recently getting into digital painting rocks and texture is where I struggle the most. I tried using texture brushes to ease the process but I find myself frustrated and unsatisfied most of the time since they look artificial that I end up manually doing everything. When it comes to pen and paper texture is easier for me even though I tend to wing the techniques most of the time lol. This definitely clears a lot of things for me as I've realize I've been doing these techniques unconsciously sometimes (like values first then going back and forth with the details and value adjusting) however I fall into the pitfall of trying to rush too much. After this video, I think I need to be really more conscious of how I apply techniques for textures. Planning and strategy in drawing and painting really goes a long way. Wow. Thank you so much! Wonderful tutorial and great way of teaching and actually showing what you are doing. Found it so helpful. I would definitely be interested in more tutorials focusing on fur texture, both longer and shorter types - like on cats. Thanks again. Will definitely be subscribing to see what you come up with next. (And sharing with some of my other artist friends.) 😀
