Mastering The INTP Unconscious Shadow Functions

The INTP has beyond their conscious functions, many unconscious personality traits. These are personality traits they are less aware of or completely unaware of. The shadow functions are extroverted intuition, extroverted thinking, introverted feeling, and introverted sensing. They are also thinking judging, intuitive judging, feeling perceiving, and sensing perceiving. What inhibits our ability to engage in or deal with the unconscious is our need for conscious control. It is also our strong desire to understand. Most importantly, it is our fear of being vulnerable or of not knowing what we are doing. The INTP Scientist wants to understand so much that it can avoid real opportunities and possibilities. Often, after going into the auxiliary, we experience a moment of heightened vulnerability or fear of judgement. The unconscious, inspirational function can feel scary or vulnerable. The unconscious autopilot on the other hand, we tend to deny we have outright. We do a lot of things every day but because they feel mundane we do not think them through carefully. We get lazy about certain things, and so, we miss their importance. But if we don't know our unconscious, how can we ever know ourselves?

Personally, I have lots of single-minded ambition regarding my chosen career. Unfortunately, I struggle terribly with applying myself and getting useful things done. I hate self-promotion, and networking. When it comes to practicalities like choosing repertoire or exactly what to say in a cover letter, my brain is then bombarded by the sheer number of possibilities and "what if?"s. It takes me forever to come to a decision.

As an INTP I would love to lunch people in the face but I don't. I do go on autopilot a lot. Things come so easy to me and people swear I'm trying when I'm not. I will finish tasks within an hour and then daydream the rest of the time at work. Then people will praise me like I did something major.

I just quit my job because I would get pulled aside for being caught daydreaming while at work despite the fact that I had completed all my tasks efficiently and would go out of my way to do things for my coworkers as well. Still overheard gossip about me being a lazy airhead for not "looking busy".

If a task is logical you easily ace it. If I encounter a problem my Ne comes up with a solution to improve the workproces. INTP dont like to do things nthat are unnecesary so we slim down the proces to only the necesary. We ask ourselves. Why dobwe do things that way? If we cant find a reason we eject it. It is all about efficiency to get things out of the way. For what purpose? To have time to daydream. To get our mind into the free flow of things.

Damn, man you don't know how much of my life I spent being my own enemy, I simply couldn't stop being overly critical of my lack of "intelligence", and that held me back big time that can really make THE capital hell for an intp, mediocrity in every corner, terrible results, people becoming disappointed, a never findable answer as to what's happening, I tied my own hands, never being as good as I wanted, thanks to my own ignorance about an autopilot's "setting" lol.

I've always tended to go against my laziness and tried to use the entj shadow, so ive beena ble to achieve a lot doing what you said.. so if you re an intp reading this, go for it! Figure out what is of the utmost importance to you and put in all the work needed and a bit extra more towars completing it, it cannot be more worth it ;) I still tend to have to begin thinking about how to hink about thinking about what im going o do before i do it.. So I end up procrastinating for a week at the least to start doing what i want to do. Good thing is as soon as i start i dont stop at least.

Have you ever heard of unrepresented thought? It’s a psychological l term for thinking without words or symbols. This would explain INTP traits we are aware of, so I am curious if this is something others have experienced. I believe we can concurrently be in UT while having a conscious awareness. But to your point, I’m often not actively thinking about the mundane tasks I am doing, mentally I’m somewhere else.

Hello Erik. I enjoyed this video because it spoke directly to the INTP desire to develop unconscious functions and I have been looking for a video that addresses this topic directly. It would be good to have more examples, though, because that would make it easier to translate the ideas into concrete advice. I think the topic of INTP relation to ENTJ and how to access Te and Se is an incredibly interesting topic.

Great video my friend.. You helped me knowing who i am... I had hard time figuring i'm an INTP chained to "Guilt" that i'm stuck for long periods of time in my hero good naive brave subconscious.. Fellow INTPs dont get blackmailed by GUILT.. A combination of (GUILT+childich comfort zone) can turn you to the stupidest creature on earth... You will notice it and you will hate yourself for it cause you are smart. Fellow young INTPs i'm 32 and i'm telling you this: _Cherish only your family and close friends.. The others can always go to hell. _Don't get too comfortable.. Learn skills cause It will kill you in your 30's if you're still attached to your World of warcraft account or your one-piece world. _Don't get blackmailed by emotional guilt and self loathing (give affection only to your tiny beloved group.. People in general will use you and you will know it.. Crush them with intelligence. _Keep time to read and to learn... It's our core... Even if you are a Mafia member... You are a nerd and you know it... Dont lose your hero Ti to please your stupid ENTJ girlfriend. You are what you are.. People must take it or leave it (exept your family or what you consider family)

As an INTP I wanna ask if family is a choice for them? I kinda picked my mom and dad out of the picture, because they have been mental harassing me since I was a child. Is that okay? I don't feel bad about it, or miss loving them. They always make shit worse that it is, imagine all my problems getting x2ed because of my dad's stupid commitment of guilt tripping me. I don't think my dad love me either, yes he love me ofc like every parent does that, here's a gold medal for your opinion. But what's compared to love standards, he seems like he hate me. And my mom has been trying to use me like a pawn since little. I don't think that they deserve anything from me, as I'm better than them in any way possible, and I can't look up to people that im simply just faster, and on top of that my dad hates me and my mom think I'm a chess game

@@jakobfroberg6715 Hmm regardless of the familial/genetic ties, you can pick yourself a family. Not necessarily bloodrelated BC thatd be pointless if respect is going out the window. If ppl value you, respect you, appreciate the unique you, and any of the good stuff then go for it. Although it'd take a long time to find ppl like that, you get to keep them once found. Ah never mind. You might just have to figure it out yourself what works for you. Best of luck! And now I'm pondering about luck 😆

Yes it's a major trait for INTP to seek for self improvement But as we tend to consider ourself as the only reliable judge (people are to soft...) we get stuck in a race against ourself. Ambition is turn on the outside and ambitious don't needs to be the best but only been judge as the best and I'm sure this is not what you look after...

The problem I've run into being an INTP seems to be that I've taken in an excess of outer world information by living and over analyzing. Then creating the mental picture (simulation), then becoming reclusive. The "problem" I'm seeing that i'm trying to "solve" has to do a lot with the mind. So I took the time to read into neuroscience, but realized after doing some research that it was missing a spiritual aspect. The need to mix neuroscience with spiritual led me to meditation, but meditation lacks real world results, not so much as it doesn't produce it but that it's hard to talk people into sitting still for a period of time and doing nothing. Leading me to physics and the laws of the world, but midway through a physics book I did research on physicist and it didn't seem that they produced many things, but instead made discoveries (which is cool, but I want to create something). Leading me to the role of entrepreneurship that helped me find Elon and Peter Thiel, whom created many businesses that branched from computer science, which led me to creating the blockchain that i'm creating now. Blockchain opened me up to Symbolic Systems and my original background was having a background in basketball, interest in comedy, video games, having a little social anxiety, not really having a religion but being an avid reader of Stoicism and Marcus Aurelius and majoring in political communication. I say that to say I see this vast array of subjects that intertwine in some way in my head (and many INTP's heads). My problem that I'm trying to solve has a lot to do with optimization, and like Tesla, I'm creating prototypes in my head that I'm not recording or putting out. I have an affinity for flow states and meditation only because I see the common problem now is as a society we're delving deeper and deeper into depression and anxiety among the masses of kids my age, and true presence comes with feeling, developing and being yourself, not copying others you see online (not to sound all heady). I don't understand why and I don't want to solely blame technology on this issue because I believe in some way it can help. The "dry technical or academic work" (lmao) is primarily because while trying to develop a social life i'm realizing what i'm aiming for mixes physics and the laws of the land with something that can't be seen, almost akin to consciousness. I want to build almost the LA Fitness of optimization. A company that leads in self-awareness. If I provide you with all the information you need on yourself and utilize computer science (technology), and mix in what you really imagine for yourself using meditation, neuroscience, psychological test, etc. I can provide you with who you truly want to be. It's more for people in general, but mainly my age in that confused 18-25 bracket that want to make an impact but dont know what to do. A way to know yourself biologically and psychologically, while allowing yourself to create based on what you imagine. I almost want to delve into the world within your head and see how you allow yourself to live in there. Not necessarily your brain, but almost your consciousness. What are your desires and fears, and what can I help you create for yourself. Facebook, Tumblr, twitter, KZbin, Linkedin, etc. are doing the same thing. They're providing you with platforms that allow you to create a world that you can broadcast to everyone else. You have the ability to customize these worlds in a manner that you see fit. Not only that but you can visit other profiles to draw inspiration to add to yours, in essence making YOUR world/page better. Not only for social consumption, but for personal gain/entertainment. Physics has an M-8 theory of universes, and it reminded me of what these platforms do. They give us full autonomy (with some rules and standards) to create a world that we want and how we see fit that is under our immediate control. They're just allowing you to broadcast your imagination (world) online in a way to gain whatever you want based on how you create it. Computer science, psych, physics, etc. I don't even know where to start. So the lack of objectivity is stemming from a need for a place to start. Finding a way to display your imagination and share it with others, and vice versa. I'm realizing I don't know what I want to do, because I don't know the label to what I want to do. Add on the fact that I'm over analytical, it feels almost by choice, and i produce DIATRIBES that don't fully grasp what I'm trying to say. Thank you for this and explaining the need to not over stress and to allow yourself to develop an ethical system that allows you to follow on a path that brings you flow, and absolves you from overthinking. Also, do you find that (healthy) INTP's are better off working for themselves or for someone else?

'meditation lacks real world results, not so much as it doesn't produce it but that it's hard to talk people into sitting still for a period of time and doing nothing.' This is not what meditating is or how you should go about it, you are expecting wrong results.
@mgm8075
@mgm8075 5 жыл бұрын
its not the purpose..but it's literally what you do in order to meditate. It's the reason it's hard to get meditation to scale the way it should based off how healthy it is for you. Most require you to not do anything and sit still, the lack of real world practicality is in the fact that its hard convincing people to do it consistently because it isn't the norm. But if I'm wrong please tell me where in mediation it doesn't require you, at some point, to sit still and do nothing physically?
@PowerRedBullTypology
@PowerRedBullTypology 5 жыл бұрын
I'd guess mediation works better for Ni types, as their Ni is given the oppertunity to do it's job while the person is not actively doing anything. They can increase the amoutn of processing Ni is doing. However, I do not think Ne types are helped that much by mediation, since the function does require something to work with, rather than a lack of a something as is the case with Ni. As far as INTP's working for themselves > I think it works better for INTP's to work for themselves, or at least not for any kind of boss. INTP's are independant types. However, possibly someone to work with could help, because it could help you to get into action-mode a bit more and something/someone to respond to (so as perceiver do not have to initiate - which is more energy consuming for intps). However, working together should only be done with someone you feel good with.
@cravkers21

As someone who has thought that exact chain of topics before lol, working for yourself is way better at the end of the day. Days get long when you work under direction of most people unless you actually feel that person actually does a better job then you but odds are that's not going to happen. But also business is not the easiest for us, depending on type of business I guess, but there are a lot of tasks that we are not good at that have to be done. If it's a bigger business or a business that needs that personable bullshit front man everyday find someone you trust to be partners with to do the business end of business. If you don't you will get too distracted and won't be able to have the thinking time to focus on whatever happens in your field of business. Not sure if that will all make sense tried to generalize it for different types of business.

I think I have struggled with not being ethical and making bad decisions that caused a lot of problems for me. It was hard asking those questions like what it is I want and believe, then deciding what I need to do to get it and then seeing it through. I wasn't asking the right questions and I didn't understand myself at all. I lost everything and ended up in some dark places, it wasn't until I got serious and started studying about psychology and MBTI that I made huge changes. I had bad habits, negative self talk, delusional thoughts and false beliefs that kept me suffering. I'm still struggling with focus and my beliefs but I'm a lot closer to where I need to be. Thanks for sharing, I think you go over the really deep issues that personality types struggle with and make it easier to understand. These topics are not easy to talk about and I'm glad we have someone intelligent like you to break it down for us. Keep up the good work. 😊👍

Great advice bro. I am new to your content, but I am really liking what I see. I have INTJ or ENTJ friends that I have given in depth ideas to when in my "inspiration mode" or "moments of clarity mode" as I call them that they embrace and run with only for me to later be not interested (as I have moved onto another subject) and thus they also become uninterested because I just stop talking about it or don't respond to there intuition about it (perhaps I had the initial control over it). Your advice seems to be that I should force myself to still engage in these ideas despite being disinterested because doing so will bring me a better future? I must ask, do you not also see the devalue in forcing yourself to be interested in something you are no longer interested in? Does your level of intuition not tank at that point as an INTP? Man, I really sound like an INTP lol

Well, I think everyone has a level that is "What they already know and have realized about themselves" and then "What they don't know and have yet to realize about themselves." I am saying focus on turning things that scare you, things that are hard for you, into things you can do. So do things you love, and also do things that you love, but are afraid to try out. Go outside your comfort zone but stay in your flow zone. So you don't need to do things you dislike, but you should do things that occassionaly bring you stress or anxiety. Does that make sense?

As an INTP college student people get mad at me because I leverage me hosting them and having snacks readily available with them getting the door or handing me stuff 😂

The rhythm of your voice is unusual... Where are you from? It's like listening to a melody (which is slightly distracting for me) but it's a cool trait nonetheless

Why do you think you have over 12 times as many subscribers as me? Even though I have been around for years and have done multiple videos with Dr. Dario 'EEG' Nardi (INTJ), Katherine 'Tritype' Fauvre, Tom Condon, Dr. Victor 'Model G' Gulenko (INTP), and Dr. David Mark Keirsey (INTP). Are my videos just too in-depth? Too INTP?

If you want help I can teach you a bunch of tricks you can use to improve your videos, most of the time even if you make a good video, you never get picked up or people just miss you in the mass of all the online content out there, in part because you can improve SEO and titles and tags a lot, but you have a nice and curious personality, and intps can become very succesful on youtube (arguably, intps make some of the most interesting youtubers) so check out Game Theory, PewDiePie and Academy Of Ideas and others to learn about how. :)

Your scenario is too messed up and too all over the place. Try to be more organized, more to the point, and work on the visual aspect on the video, make sure you and your scenario looks good. Just my 2 cents.
