Oh honey if it weren't for you, Katie, I wouldn't be this far, which is just learning to spin (I been skating most of my life, too, but didn't have skates or practice space for a long time). Thank you for your videos, I love that you will slow down the video and I can see what you're doing with your feet it helps tremendously!!

I asked my teacher about the shoulder thing and he didn’t really confirm. I’m really glad to see you mention it because the only time I did a spin by accident I used my shoulder. I don’t know if its differing techniques or what.
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
I find the shoulders really help turn the entire body. Sometime focusing on different elements of a move can help it come together and sometimes just click into place.

Thank you so much for this video! It's really well explained! Tho, my main problem with spins is that my dominant leg is my right one but for some reason, it doesn't come natural to me to spin clockwise. I'm training heel-toe spin anti-clockwise, it's going well but it's taking its time. I don't think I will be able to one-foot spin on my left leg so I'll have to learn to spin clockwise... wish me luck!
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
You can spin on the opposite foot anti clockwise but that would be a back outside spin. That’s another video. xx 💕🛼⭐️😀

Thanks Katie for this video. Is this the same as a scratch spin? Love the videos that are tailored toward artistic skating especially… hard to find those with roller skates.
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
I’d say the scratch spin is more like the 6 wheel spin on roller. I’ll link the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnS7ZIGCpdKffqM

Spinning is so so difficult ! I think I am gonna change to an even harder back inside wheels. I am just not able to slide that wheel at all. of course it is all about technique but it is just so so challenging to spin ! so much going on ! nice video as always !!! Can you do the one about the outside spin as well? that is next on my list ! 😂😂😂

Yes definitely need back outside and forward outside too. The harder the better when it comes to wheels and spinning.

If I were to replace two hard wheels on my roller skates to reduce friction and facilitate rotation and sliding in a one-foot spin around the right foot, which position should I replace the wheels in? There are four wheels on the right foot, two on the front wheel and two on the rear wheel. The question is which two wheels should be replaced with stiffer wheels.
@Skatie4 ай бұрын
It very much depends which foot you’re doing the spin on but it’s the back inside wheel that needs the most slip for this spin as that’s the wheel that rotates around the front inside wheel.
@Lily-lz1uk2 жыл бұрын
Hi! What skates would you recommend that are good for spinning and artistic skating?
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
If you’re looking to do actual figure skating then I’d recommend a start Edea boot on a roll-line plate and definitely take some lessons. If you’re more into the rhythm type moves then a good start boot would be Chaya Melrose, Candi girl Carin, rookie artistic or suregrip boardwalks. I have a number of recommended skates on my website. Great tutorial! Is the majority of your weight on both your inside edge wheels or primarily over the big toe wheel??
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
It’s mainly focused over the front inside wheel. But there is weight on the back inside wheel too but only a little otherwise it won’t slip. 🤩

You got any further magic tips for the static entry? I’ve tried 4000 times 😂
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
It’s so hard. Make sure to use the shoulders to push the rotation. This can really help. And focus all the weight into the front inside wheel so the others can float around it.

I will try it!

Hi! Could you tell me what's the correct hardness rating (A) to do this one foot spin? Thanks!

My skates are 83A. Is it still possible for me to do a smooth one-foot turn? I also find that I tend to fall forward will doing this. How do I fix that?
@Skatie7 ай бұрын
You can spin in a softer wheel but you’ll have to shift the weight further forward to lift the back wheels more.
@kobynyt7 ай бұрын
skatie, doing one foot spins, what wheel hardness do you recommend on smooth concrete?
@Skatie7 ай бұрын
Spinning is almost always easier in a harder wheel. It just gives the wheels that little bit of skip so you don’t have to lift you feet as much to spin.

im an artistic skater and were learning basic spins and i just cant pull it off and its really stressful because everytime i try and do it i lose my balance halfway through and i dont know what to do, ive been skating three years and the stationary spin is one of the most difficult things because jm better at dance skating than free, do you have any tips sorry!
@nataliaarmelini6582 жыл бұрын
its quite frustrating because i can do like three turns and some much higher level skills but spins just dont work haha!
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
Spinning is definitely one of the hardest things to master in roller skating. I’d say work on a two foot spin and really feel how the arms help with the rotation. Make sure you’re really secure on your spinning leg. Maybe practice some one foot edge changes on that spinning leg so your balance is really strong. Really press on the front inner wheel and make sure to use the free leg and arms. You’ve got this. Keep me updated on your progress x

Does it give you the hardness rating of the wheel? The harder the better for spinning.
@memoirs84122 жыл бұрын
@@Skatie they are a polyurethane wheel with ABCE-7 bearings. If they are for gripping I'll opt to buy a suggested wheel to use for inside. (Currently using them for outdoor use).

@@memoirs8412 do they have an A rating on the wheel? If not what skates do you have and I can maybe look up the hardness rating.
