3 things I’ve found with the stabila layout station. 1. If I don’t turn the reader off after automatically locating square, it will follow me as I walk to the next check point. (Major crisis everted when I realized it was user error and not foundation issues.) 2. Pressing the narrowing in button all the way down to 1/16th eliminates any laser slip at 100’. And 3, this tool has made mine and my crews accuracy as perfect as perfect can be on framing as it allows you to shoot heights for foundation and grade, plumb for interior walls (totally eliminates the use of plate levels and trusting one man’s eye to the next), as well as squares. This is a must have tool and another great video. (Ps, our job site is now full of jackass sawhorses thanks to you! And yes, I paid for the schematic of the horses)

"Thank you for the helpful advice! Just one trick of the trade can really help with productivity in this field. That said, thank you for sharing your tips and tricks with us. Your channel is one of my favorites! Regarding snapping lines, I have discovered a technique that has been making my work much faster, especially on larger houses with more interior walls or fancy beam work on the second floor. Essentially, it involves snapping a grid on the floor with 10-foot increments, usually working best, and then pulling all other lines parallel off the grid. By doing this, my helper and I only need to use our short tape measures after the grid is established. I'm curious, does anyone else use a grid technique like this?" I'd have to say one of my biggest problems when something lines is either snapping the interior wall on the wrong side of the line or just snapping the interior wall in the wrong place. the answer to that is measure from both directions to the closest trusted reference point (never try to cut this corner like I've done so many times!) This mistake can get very costly especially with plumbing/bearing walls in a kitchen on a pre-sold house, and no one catches this mistake until all the plumbing and venting has passed through. I'm curious does anyone else have a story like this?

I do the same, snapping the smaller square possible and then if possible just using small tapes

Yeah, something was up with the mic, so I stopped recording audio to the camera after this video. It should be better in the future.

I worked as a lead for a waterhead genius . He was what I called a theoretical carpenter . Nice hammer but never used . When it came to layout,.. He already was a master on a computer and CAD.. He'd take the architectural files and download them . Then pull out a total station which I called R2-D2 linked to satellites and his laptop . R2 would follow me around wherever I put the prismatic sceptre while he guided me with his laptop " Right there " within a 1/32 ". It was great for finding elevations and co-ordinates on these huge multimillion dollar homes with jaw dropping accuracy. . When I started in 1982 . Most couldn't give a hoot about square . Then came cross squaring , Then came Pythagoras . but on huge homes a tape measure wont go 300' with precision . I loved working with that brainiac . He was like Elon Musk as a carpenter but in the end I couldn't keep up with all the technology he was throwing at us . Framing with a smartphone . Had no idea what you were building in the end , Just saw " Build this over there , like this and here are the numbers " took all the fun out of making mistakes

Ok so I'm not the only one with the terrible sound issues, crazy crackling, and feedback on quite a few of these videos :-(

Thanks for hanging in there. I stopped recording to the camera after this video. Now I record to the DJI Mic itself.

I can't help thinking how much easier this process would be in metric.

You know, I've give this a lot of thought and I don't see how it is actually easier.

The *ONLY* and I mean only difference would be slightly easier math but as these guys have been doing it for 20+ years it doesn’t make any difference. It would also not be practical in America seeing as all of the material is in imperial

another trick i heard about was spraying clearcoat on your chalklines, havent tried it myself but saw it done on another video and apparently it works.

Interesting the garage floor looks to be poured over a subfloor. So, the space below the garage is useable. Is that what I'm seeing?

Yes... I have a large assortment of broken chalk lines in the back from over filling. Many premature deaths I'm sure. When will I learn! Find you some chocolate and start eating more easily than others I've just gone back to the TAJIMA-CR301JF Also Milwaukee makes a decent chalk line if you're in a pinch.

Some of us still use levels and plumb bobs! Only because the boss won't spring for a laser.
