That’s fine but I think you should give it a shot anyway. This is pretty easy especially on this engine. Midas is definitely not going to be doing a flush like this they will most likely just do a drain and fill. They don’t have the time to do all these flushes. In fact I don’t know if any place that will actually do a flush like this.

For anyone wanting to do this, never drain your coolant while hot. You will get severe burns if it touches you. What he is doing is very dangerous. Just make sure you have no where to go that day and let the car cool down between cycles. Also drain your engine block and disconnect the bottom hose. Get as much coolant out as possible. It will save you a lot of time by most likely getting rid of 1 of your cycles before it comes out clear. Disconnect and clean your reservoir too. 1. Undo radiator cap and drain coolant. 2. Disconnect bottom hose and drain engine block. (If you cannot drain the engine, then do not worry) 3. Fill with radiator cleaner and distilled water. 4. With a coolant funnel half filled, start car with heat ON and fan OFF. Run until you get to normal running temp and your radiator fans turn on. (This means your thermostat opened). You will see bubbles coming from your coolant funnel. When radiator fans are on and bubbles stop, you are good to turn off car and wait for it to cool down. Then drain the radiator. 5. Repeat step 4 with just distilled water until your radiator drains clean. 6. Repeat step 4 with 70/30 mix to make up for the distilled water left in the system from last flush and this time do not drain. 7. Be happy because you did it the correct way and were patient.

I got a 2002 and found a block plug that I also use, it's in the middle of the front. If you are standing in the front. Better to reach it from the bottom. I put a small hose and clamp and leave it on. THe plug is brass and turns easy. My toyota truck has a a long one real easy to reach. I didn't know about them I just found them when I was looking for any problems. Yours may not have them.

If you want to replace all coolant it's important to cycle it. When you drain coolant it doesn't drain the coolant in the block, so to make sure you get all old coolant and chemical flush out, you want to cycle it with distilled water.

Good question. Coolants have additives in them that break down over time. These additives help the engine cool more efficiently and prevent corrosion (rust) that can lead to other failures. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing the coolant about every 5 years.

I've seen some other videos explain the need to remove air bubbles, is that necessary for radiator flushes?
@MasterJacks3 ай бұрын
Yes, you do need to make sure there isn't air in the system. Top it off with as much coolant as it will take. Drive it around until it reaches normal operating temperature. Let it cool overnight, then top it off again in the morning. The idea behind the method is to get the engine fully up to temperature which will allow the thermostat to open. When it opens, it will draw coolant into the engine block causing the level in the radiator to drop. Because it's now really hot and under pressure, you want to wait until it's fully cool before topping it off again. If the car is at normal operating temperature, but you're getting cool air from the vents (when max heat is selected), you still have air in the system. Repeat the process as necessary. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Hi there MasterJacks, I was wondering if you have time maybe to help with an issue I am having. I am running in to an issue with a 2005 Toyota Camry V8 check engine light (only 52,000 miles on my dashboard so the car is not driven a bunch over the years). The last 2 years like clockwork a year apart i get the check engine. The first time I brought it to a show I was told to go to. They said after checking with their computer I have a faulty knock sensor. So I said okay lets do what needs to be done. They charged me $700 at the time in 2020. They said when taking apart the parts they found coolant in different parts of the engine bay (i do not know car stuff I am pretty sure that is what he said). This part of the problem is how I found your video here. I am wondering too what could cause the coolant leak. They replace the sensor and a few days later the check engine light returns. Same codes on their test so they replace the sensors again (for free). A year goes by and then just before inspection time Check engine again. Go to the shop... same code. Now they do the replacement again and charge me $300 just for parts they say (do not know if that is a reasonable price). It is now a year since then and once again I have a check engine light. Also I should say my coolant is about an inch lower than it was a year ago. Just trying to ask anyone and everyone for information. It is such a hard thing to find a mechanic in NY and since I am not knowledgeable (but trying to learn) it makes this soo much harder.
@jerrycombs4077 Жыл бұрын
I’d take it to autozone or a place like that and have them run the codes, they’ll print them out for you for free with a detailed page as to what every code means and the possible causes for them and how to fix them. I’d start there cuz a lot of mechanics like to tell you one thing and charge you for a quick job, delete the codes so you think everything is fine, a lot of them are dishonest in my experience and just tell you anything really.
