I just performed a fluid and filter change on my 23 Sierra with LZO with 30k miles. Diesel does not require the exhaust work due to single exhaust. It’s still a chore with a lot of up and down when doing this in the garage under the truck but it can be done if you’re up for it. I reused the filter bolts, could not find them online or locally at any dealer. I got a Vevor fluid pump on Amazon. Worked great. Getting the drain plug on after fill is a PITA. I put in about 8.5 qts and then brought it up to 167 and pulled the plug. Quite bit ran out until I had a steady flow and I plugged it up. If I could get this done for $200 or less I’d let em have it.

As you can see its a decently labor intensive process. Thats why dealerships charge so much. The cost of ATF is roughly $20-25 a gallon. It's all labor cost and its blown out of proption. It doesn't take 5-7 hours to do this.

Hello there, Great video my friend. but man, the gas version has that Exhaust pipe in a way and what a pain in the butt to change the transmission fluid while removing all kinds of parts out of the way. Anyway, I have a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 3.0L Duramax and the transmission at these pick up truck is not obstructed by anything apparently l, so it is easier to remove the pan. Now, this is my story. I just recently ordered through Amazon my Al Delco Transmission Fluid and since the Amazon suggested that the Dextron VI transmission fluid fits my car then I went ahead and purchased 12 qts since I am changing the pan with a deep PPE pan. Now I went ahead and changed the transmission fluid and place the Dextron VI already, as well as went through all the process and temperatures too.. Drive it for about 4/5 miles and then parked it. The second day, I went ahead and watch few videos including yours and I realized that the AlDelco Dextron VI is NOT the correct fluid for this 10L80 transmission. Instead I need the Dextron ULV 10-4107 I think it is the bottle saying. As soon as I saw that then I drain the transmission again immediately and replaced it with the correct Dextron ULV type. Went through the whole process again and drove the truck again for about 10 miles. Everything seems fine for now, but there is most likely more fluid left inside the Torques Convertor as I would imagine since I could not drain everything. So at this point it is mixed with the Dextron VI. Since I can’t flush the transmission for now, then I am planing to removed it again later on and add again 9 quarts of new Dextron ULV so that the fluid left inside the Torque Converter will be replace with new fluid and have less Dextron VI left overall inside… Damn Amazon have this message stating that this Dextron VI fit my vehicle so I got to table mislead and went though all this headache. I am hoping that everything will be fine in the end while repeating this process again so that the incorrect fluid will be removed as much as possible.. Geez! What a damn nightmare and believe the Amazon posted message.

Thanks! I'm in favor of the complete fluid exchange, however the pan drop and filter service on this transmission exchanges 8 of the 12 quarts (67%). That's pretty good! If you are doing this every 50k as recommended, I don't imagine ever having transmission problems.

Would it be possible or is it a bad idea to just every 20-30k miles siphon off 1-3 quarts of fluid and replace with fresh fluid and save this ridiculous process for a 100-150k service? You could do that as a starting point, but It's better if you get it up to temp and check it with it running to be sure it's accurate. To get it up to temp, you can do converter stalls (foot on brake, shift into drive, rev engine to 1300-1500 RPM for 10 sec on, then 10 seconds off watching trans temp on display until temp reaches 160F). Then with it still running (in Park), check and adjust level as needed. This video shows converter stalls doing the same thing, but on a GM.
