hi Milo im tractor mechanik and in army i was tank driver i drowe t72 but it is same engine that engine must not smoke like that, and dont spit disel out like that and must sound much beter. maybe timing on fuel pump is no correct and injector must make beter fog on a particular pressure i hope you read this, nice video

since they have done the timing they have replaced the oil with a higher vis. They are now waiting for an opportunity to get it out for a test drive in the field to get the engine up to operating temp. Most of what you see is spilled oil as a result of the too low viscosity.

Frigg Manager Would that improve the sound too? I don’t think so. They adjusted the timing of the camshafts but the fuel pump could still be off couldn’t it?

My Grandfather and I have been watching the entire project. When we first saw that engine and the condition it was in, he was sure it wouldn't run again. He's very impressed with the work you guys have done. He was a heavy equipment operator for almost 50 years. Started on dump trucks. He's almost 90 now. We've been waiting for the test drive for a LONG time now. Can't believe it's finally here! 🤙👏👏👏

check all injectors for pressure break away pressure, no dribbling. timing for injection at 12 degrees BTDC, at TDC piston "1" cam lobes should be around the same angle pointing away from the cylinder centerline.

They probably fixed the ussue. Because this engine has no valve stem seals the oil that the engine had (which was way too thin) went down the valves right into the combustion chamber. And with thicker oil it takes longer for the oil to get down into the chamber. I hope this makes sense.

Tom that was my first thought, with it being stood for so long the stem seals had dried, looks like it’s chucking oil out the exhaust 🤔 so what does it have in place if it hasn’t any? Just heavy oil?

@@richardmiller8028 well these engines dont have any seals at all so that is why they are known for burning 1 liter of oil on every 20 liters of diesel.

@@Tom-jz5vh Well clearly there's a quantum surge in the iron vacuum generator of the engine. You notice a slight field variance in the damaged vacuum drive pedals so what milo needs to do is first decontaminate the warp drive plates and re-route power through the rear electro-ceramic portal drive.

I've never seen anyone bleed injectors at the pump instead of at the injector. If your cam timimg is on par now then your injection pump is too far advanced and spraying too late in the injection cycle and putting raw fuel out the exhaust.

I don't know how the Closed Captions are done, but thanks for putting the English ones on this video...I watched the original when you were wrenching on it trying to fix the timing, although I understood in concept what you were doing...now having the English I understand exactly what you were doing!

I worked on a MWM (German) engine in the 80's in a trawler it was around 27 lt. if I remember, it had massive smoke just like your tank & unburnt fuel out of the stack, after many weeks of work it was found that the pump 'experts had installed the fuel pump camshaft in reverse! the engine was designed to run rightward or leftward by MWM factory for use in different applications bu I think you need to start at the beginning with the fuel pump & injectors overhaul.

used to be standard practice on some older marine engines, running the engine backwards to reverse rotation on propellors. Think youre spot on with the pump&injector test/rebuild, ive seen so many red flag issues in the past vids... I`d like to see the pump on a testbench..

@MasterMilo, The Type 69 throws diesel fuel into the exhaust to generate a smoke screen during combat. Check if there are any extra fuel or oil lines going to the exhaust and check if there is fuel flowing through there.

I don’t think it is the engine temperature, I have seen more of these v12 cold startups they smoke a lot the first few minutes. I am pretty sure the checked the pump timing too. Can’t imagine they over looked it. Couldn’t it be just engine oil that slips up the piston walls? The engine was completely locked up with rust and the cilinder walls might be to much pitted? Did they replace some of the cilinders? Succes Milo! Super interessant man!

Have to make sure the engine gets hot for the rings on the pistons to seat properly otherwise they’re gonna glaze over the side walls and you’ll get a lot of compression problems taking it for a drive is a good thing also check the pump diesel pressure ? it seems like The timing on the fuel pressure pump is wrong it’s coming in to late on some of the cylinders ? just idling won’t get tank engine hot enough u need to drive it on a regular truck engine 1000 km is what it takes for the pistion rings to seat

Yep, ya gotta drag something heavy to get that engine up to proper temp. Them piston rings might not be seated since they haven't really"broken in" the engine . A lotta old diesels that don't get worked hard tend to slobber. I've heard of some guys throwing in Ajax into the intake to "scrub" off the glaze , heard it works but I ain't willing to try it lol.

It has an open air intake, and no muffler. So the sound is unusual

Milo has shown in the werkplaatsvlog that the transition from the crankcage to engine the loud rattle is. It has a large bussing that is a little louse

Je hebt een stroboscooplamp met een diesel adapter nodig, dan kan je de timing van de brandstofpomp afstellen, daar zit volgens mij nog steeds het probleem! De motor onsteekt ook niet echt omdat de diesel veel te laat ingespoten wordt en dus niet volledig ontbrand! Wel mooi dat de nokkenassen nu op tijd staan.

Most russian tanks have the ability to inject raw diesel inside the exhaust manifold. Creates lots of smoke, well a smokescreen. You should implement one in yours if you dont already have. Sometimes exhaust smoke screens catch on fire onside the manifold, witch makes it quite the sight. Dont ask how I know ....

I'm a mechanic my self.. From what i see that either engine oil or diesel that comes out from the exhaust, and it shouldn't do that.. First of all check if all of the cylinder is firing, check if the diesel pump timming is right, and check the compression for each cylinder.. If what you're saying is right (that engine spitting out oil / diesel while cold), then try to drive it or give it more throttle to make sure it is running at working temperature.. That's all from me..

I don't think this engine would have a chance to work, I need some repair. But I'm still impressed with your enthusiasm. I hope that you will succeed although it will not be a simple engine scrap. The only thing I can advise you is to find a company that would undertake the renovation of this power unit or buy another in Poland there are still companies that deal with it and there are scrap yards

Maybe China could build you a brand new equivalent engine but authenticity would suffer but much quicker than rebuild and timing. You keep originality. Good work.

It is not normal for the engine to smoke white and then black for a while. This means that the pre-injection changes regardless of the engine speed. I would estimate this to be a fault in the pre-injection shifter (cylinder between pump and gear). Look for a mistake there. Because crankshaft / camshaft timing only affects performance and sound. But the color of the smoke is determined by the pre-injection and the amount of fuel. Diesel dripping from the exhaust will be an injection error. It doesn't dust, it just splashes the fuel into the cylinder and it doesn't burn. It just flies off the exhaust and cools it down.

Het loopt als een zak met oude noten, maar moet respect tonen voor zoveel werk aan de motor. In mijn ervaring is het best gaaf. Laat olie door de klepstoters lopen, daarom is rook het enige dat de kop naar beneden brengt en alle klepstoters en olieringen vernieuwt! Hetzelfde had met de T72 :-( alleen onderdelen zijn moeilijk te krijgen. Maar hou je vingers gekruist zodat je de motor nog kunt redden.

Т34 доставали из реки в которой тот пролежал на дне более 70 лет, смывали со шлангов грязь и ил, за день просушивали его и заводили на второй день! Вот где надёжность! Сделано в СССР!

Hei dude. Try to check if your oil is too thin. If it so, then check your fuel pump seal, maybe its leaking. Or do cylinder cut off to make sure which cylinder is not participating 😁😁

What is the injector pop pressure, could be that they open way too soon, on too low pressure. Injection event is too long and the fuel dont burn.

Interesting. I'm guessing pump timing is too late. Seen it before. But it wouldn't hurt checking the pressure on each injector.

I'm amazed you managed to get the wrecked engine working (only just 😳) but it needs a lot to tlc. Why don't you get those tractor pulling blokes back to help rectify it?

It the smoke generator switch stuck on? That is a simple thing to check. Most modern tanks have a smoke generator to obscure the battlefield.

That oil coming out of the exhaust really looks like engine oil to me. I still didn't see you guys do a compression test

The oil was too thin. It leaked too much oil because it has no valve stem seals. They changed the oil its way thicker now. So it takes longer to end up in the combustion chamber.

@@Tom-jz5vh I did see they obtained higher viscosity oil - This time it does seem a little less oily and smoky than before, but still horrible. They really need to find an expert in that engine to help them. They did have people assist in earlier videos. Those guys are needed again!

Вся беда в этой реставрации в том что хонинговку он делал сам, какой там угол? 45°? 50? 60?° а он очень важен... Там масло идёт через кольца..

Такое ощущение что работает система постановки дымзавесы)) Когда солярку впрыскивали в выхлоп. Было такое одно время, потом отказались от этого из-за огромного расхода солярки. Мне кажется или с выхлопа постоянно масло льется?

Ha mannen, even vanuit een marine verleden met veel dieselervaring. Het lijkt toch echt op één of meer slechte verstuivers. Zo typisch, roken en diesel uitspugen via het afgassenkanaal. Of er zijn er een paar niet goed gemonteerd, dwz krom getrokken in de kop waardoor ze gaan 'hangen'. Succes mannen, gaaf project hoor 👊

You set valve timing but what about pump advance? I bet my old shoes that pump is completely out of whack-hence unburnt fuel and white smoke.

In my opinion the air/gas mixture is exceeded in diesel. Maby lower the amount of diesel? Maby injectors are not designed for moder diesel/petrol. Hope you can get it running soon

The smoke is probably oil burning in the cylinders like when tanks use their engine smoke screens they inject extra oil so it burns up and is shot out the exhaust in big white smoke clouds just like that so maybe make sure oil isnt being injected by mistake?

Check the timing on the injectors, also do a compression test on all cylinders. I dont think any diesel should spray that much unburnt fuel out

some times tanks have built in smoke screens by injecting pure diesel fuel at some point after the combustion chamber.. Maybe your tank is stuck with this engaged.. Just my thoughts.

Check the timing of the fuelpump ! Also check all injectors individually I dont now if this engine has valvestem seals but that could be where oil is coming from and running into the cilinder

try taking it for a ride so it gets some resistance, old tractors starts using oil when they are to much standby when u give them resistance it usually fixes the problem. the injection pump prolly isn't timed right either

Hi again master Milo..I’m not trolling you and think you and your guys did a amazing job..but clearly you are not engine builders..may I make a suggestion..send the injectors out to a qualified shop to be rebuilt..and I was wondering if you honed the cylinders and replaced the rings and also what service work you did to the heads If it continues to produce the unreal amount of smoke you could use it for mosquitoes control

zou best kunnen, die tanks hebben de mogelijkheid om brandstof in de uitlaat te gooien voor extra rookontwikkeling, in sommige gevallen worden er vanachter grote brandstofdrums gemonteerd voor dit vaker te kunnen doen

Check fuel pump timing. Im pretty sure on some later versions of these engines, they used the unburnt diesel for smokescreens. This was done by adjusting the fuel pump on the fly.

Given this was a former Iraqi Tank from the Gulf War I think they would've wanted all the smoke screen they could get to avoid Hellfire Missiles.

@@GrandsonofKong Cant thermal imagers see through diesel smoke though? I thought only the phosphor smoke grenades worked against lasers and thermal imaging.

@@henryatkinson1479 Good Point! There were are wire guided and other forms of anti-armor weapons. But certain types of tech will defeat most defensive options. I guess if I was a tank commander, I'd make smoke even if I knew it improved my odds by 20% or so.

hello, watch dansubaru video, ww2 t-34 tank engine cold start up barn find. to see and hear engine noise and amount of smoke on start up and when warm to expect your engine to do. a few suggestions, check all 12 cylinders compression ratios ( should all be reasonably close), check and double check all injector pipes are going from pump to the correct cylinder. if the timing was bad the engine would not start. the engine is white smoking and knocking. so it is not firing on all cylinders. i had the same thing happen with my diesel landcruiser. it turned out to be a faulty rebuilt injector. i am a career auto technician . you have done a brilliant job of restoring tank.

Well done, They are ment to run like that more power and cooler, they all were tuned like that once you drive it you realy wont notice it once you get speed, its when the smokes black then start worrying,...

To master millo. Why don't you start one of the spare engines you have and see if one of those are not in a better working condition and change the engine with the best one before you fit the turret and make more work for yourself.

This is why British Rail used to leave their diesel locomotives ticking over all night if they were needed the next day, because of the smoke they generated from cold until they got hot. Check out locomotive cold starts, or start ups with 'Clag' and you will see what I mean! Plus without all the tanks air filters and housings in place it is probably sucking in far more air than it actually needs to let it run smoothly, also you will hear or sorts of weird noises until these units are in place to help to damp out these noises.
