@@CufCufImam the Torkic identity of the empire rapidly dropped off. By the sixteenth century "Tork" was more a term of abuse than one of approbation. "In the Imperial society of the Ottomans," says Bernard Lewis, "the ethnic term Tork was little used, and then chiefly in a rather derogatory sense, to designate the Torcoman nomads or, later, the ignorant and uncouth torkish-speaking peasants of the Anatolian villages. To apply it to an Ottoman gentleman of Constantinople would have been an insult" (Lewis 1968: 1-2; see also 332-33).8 To be a "Tork" or "Torkish" was, to the educated inhabitants of the empire, to be "ignorant," "witless," "senseless," "stupid," or "dishonest." Torks were called "country bumpkins" and "mischief-makers"; they could also be deviants and heretics, such as those who rallied to the Mughals in the sixteenth century, or those who rebelled against the central government in the seventeenth century (Imber 2002: 3; Finkel 2007: 548). In the face of this history of disparagement and ridicule it is not surprising that the Torkish nationalist Ziya Gökalp should exclaim that "the poor Torks inherited from the Ottoman Empire nothing but a broken sword and an old-fashioned plow" (quoted Armstrong 1976: 397). This is by no means the only case, as we shall see, when the ostensible "imperial people"-in this case the Torks -feel that they got a raw deal out of "their" empire. Not only were Ottomans not Torks; "Tork" and "Torkish" were themselves vague and shifting designations. There was no sense of nationhood among the backwoods peasants of Anatolia who were usually referred to as Torks. Their affiliations were to their village or clan, or to the wider community of Islam.

hes called napoleon of iran , cause he just like napoleon (which was after him meaning that napoleon is the nadir of europe technically) pushed every single power , the ottomons and russian under the rule of PETER the great , BUT the main reason is due to his tactical geniuses winning battles while having much less man than the enemy , and important unique tactical moves like defeating the indian elephants which the army could've not possibly done by simply using camels that fire was set upon them and others... unlike ivan , he was NOT a king infact he bringed back the safavid rule at first and even under their incompetence he placed a child on the throne cause he didn't to be a king but a great general . and yeah that's really it

It was because of the religion of Zoroastrianism, in Zoroastrian religion, human beings had a high position and you should not pay attention to other people's religion. In the worst case, they exiled the people of one city to a new city. It is said that Khosrow I exiled the people of Antioch in Iran. He asked an old man Are you satisfied with the new city? The old man replied that he had a mulberry tree in Antioch that he was very fond of, and Khosrow ordered that a mulberry tree be planted for the old man.Not after the arrival of the Mongols, but after the arrival of Islam, Iran turned to the Islamic ideology, that is, the spread of Islam, plundering the infidels, and killing them.

@@oicmapperNot true actually, people tend to forget that it wasn't just the British that were trying to occupy India, there was presence of other competing European powers in the subcontinent as well, before the British as a matter of fact first Indo-European battle that ever took place was with the Portuguese, the British didn't make a move out of the fear of the French and Dutch in South India which also meant they had to occupy the rest of India before the French, they ensured they were powerless by the time battle of Plassey took place, also the Mughal empire had began to dwindle into a small powerless kingdom by the time of Aurangzeb itself, and the British initially had no plans of occupying the subcontinent but they did supply armament and military training to Indian powers that paid them well, British Pirates would also raid Mughal Ships sailing to Mecca fully aware the Mughals took it very seriously but the British didn't care, the British never feared the Mughals, they had no reason to because Mughals weren't their enemy in India, the Maratha empire was since the Marathas had been halting any European advancement into India and defeating them decisively due to their control of Seas and India entirely.

Nader Shah Afshar's attempts to legitimize his rule by dint of his Turkic background. Over the course of his rise to power and reign, Nader consistently argued that his Afshar and Turkman affiliations granted him the right to rule over Iranian territory as an equal to his Ottoman, Mughal, and Central Asian contemporaries. Aided by his chief secretary and court historian, Mīrzā Mahdī Astarābādī, Nader's assertions paralleled those found in popular narratives about the history of Oghuz Turks in Islamic lands. This element of Nader's political identity is often overlooked by historians because it did not outlive the brief Afsharid period, but it demonstrates how the Safavid collapse led to the circulation of dynamic new claims to Iranian and Islamic political power.

Attempted, rather unconvincingly, to reassure Nader Shah. The friars then presented their gifts, which included a fine illustrated Bible. Nader opened it by chance at a picture of St Michael brandishing his sword over a prostrate Lucifer. He asked who the vanquished figure was, and on being told it was the Devil, he laughed and said he thought it was the Tork - glancing over at the ambassador as he said this, at the Ottoman pasha, 'for he lost no opportunity to mock them.

Which is probably why he's so much more obscure than Napoleon. Still a great leader, Iran would probably be far weaker today if it weren't for him reversing decades of decline and modernizing the country. I'm sure more people would be able to appreciate his reign if it didn't last only 11 years.

In 14th century Timur invaded Iran and destroyed the city completely. Contemporary sources mention 90,000 people having been murdered by Timur. After killing all men in the town, he cut their heads and made 3 pyramids of the heads, in what is now the modern Sarberiz (meaning "Place of heads") square. However, after Isfahan revolted against Timur's taxes by killing the tax collectors and some of Timur's soldiers, he ordered the massacre of the city's citizens; the death toll is reckoned at between 100,000 and 200,000. An eye-witness counted more than 28 towers constructed of about 1,500 heads each. This has been described as a "systematic use of terror against towns...an integral element of Tamerlane's strategic element", which he viewed as preventing bloodshed by discouraging resistance. His massacres were selective and he spared the artistic and educated. This would later influence the next great Turkic conqueror: Nader Shah.
