Hi Fay, My name is David, and I recently stumbled upon your site. I watch quite a bit of Bob Dylan's content on youtube. So naturally, youtubes's algo's began putting some of your reaction videos on my home page. I was 12 or 13 when "The Times They Are a-Changin'" came out in early 1964. I've been a huge Dylan fan since that day, almost 60 years ago. Anywho, after watching a few of your Dylan reaction videos (and a couple of great ones by The Who). I'm in LOVE!! Your reactions are always SO on-point: infectiously fun(nie), empathic, and always with intelligent commentary sprinkled in. I feel like I now have a great new pal to hang out and listen to records with. It's much more fun and meaningful listening with a pal rather than just alone, isn't it? Thank you David/NYC

Eric Stewart, the writer and lead vocalist, wrote this song after his wife told him that he didn't tell her enough how much he loved her. Sort of a tongue in cheek response. Stewart was seriously injured in a car crash, and did not perform for some time.

Greetings from Scotland|! Oh that brought back a flood of memories for me! 10cc released this 2 years (to the day) after I got married as a teenager! We had immediately moved to Northern Scotland (because of my work) and started our family. Things were very difficult being so young and a long way from any family support but we had ourselves and a beautiful 18mth old boy. Many times during that first couple of years we both wondered if we had done the right thing. After 48 years we're still together. We still live in Scotland and so do our sons and granddaughter who has just started in Law University on her 17th birthday. We both learned that falling in love is easy but staying in a marriage is hard. It takes a lot of commitment and a lot of hard work. Would I do it all again - yes, in a heartbeat! 🙂 Have a great weekend!

This song is definitely a popular classic, Fay. A lot of people have loved it since it first came out. As for my ideas on the song, I think he loves her but is trying to put on a brave front to weather his loss. The woman whispering "big boys don't cry" appears to me to reinforce this, along with the overall mood of the song. It's haunting tone is so beautiful and is responsible for a lot of the song's appeal, I think. I loved seeing you enjoy it, Fay. And a wonderful reaction as always. Here's to your next one! 🙏🙂💜

Thank you for your reaction to this classic 10CC hit! I'm so happy to hear your thoughts on the 70's! IMO after what The Beatles and the rest of the British Invasion got started in the 60's it lead to an amazing decade of musical growth and creativity in the 70's - the greatest decade of music of all time! From 10CC you should now check out "The Things We Do For Love" and for a few other songs to hit, how about "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young from 1971, "Hi De Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears, "Vincent" by Don McLean from 1972 and "If You Want To Get To Heaven" by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils"! Best wishes to you, Faye!

I enjoyed your fresh take on this song mpwa! 💖💖💖💖 I always thought of it as a song where the singer was denying his own emotions. Perhaps from fear of rejection or pain should his heart be broken? To answer your question, I do think the song deserved to be a hit. I think the message captured a feeling of fear that is common for many people. However, if I understood your reaction, you served up a reminder that sometimes it takes breaking through that self-imposed safety net to actually reach someone. 💖💖💖💖

Fay, it's great to see that you enjoyed this wonderful song from a hugely talented and creative UK art-rock band whose brightest light shone all too briefly in the mid to late 1970s. I'm Not in Love was recorded by what's generally regarded as being the classic, multi-instrumentalist 10cc line-up of Lol Creme, Kevin Godley, Graham Gouldman & Eric Stewart, even though they were only together for 4 years. They were unusual in that all 4 members wrote songs and all of them could sing lead vocals. The recording of the vocals (which were unique at the time) for this song is explained on Wikipedia: "Stewart spent three weeks recording Gouldman, Godley and Creme singing "ahhh" 16 times for each note of the chromatic scale, building up a "choir" of 48 voices for each note of the scale. The main problem facing the band was how to keep the vocal notes going for an infinite length of time, but Creme suggested that they could get around this issue by using tape loops. Stewart created loops of about 12 feet in length by feeding the loop at one end through the tape heads of the stereo recorder in the studio, and at the other end through a capstan roller fixed to the top of a microphone stand, and tensioned the tape. By creating long loops the 'blip' caused by the splice in each tape loop could be drowned out by the rest of the backing track, providing that the splices in each loop did not coincide with each other. Having created twelve tape loops for each of the 12 notes of the chromatic scale, Stewart played each loop through a separate channel of the mixing desk. This effectively turned the mixing desk into a musical instrument complete with all the notes of the chromatic scale, which the four members together then "played", fading up three or four channels at a time to create "chords" for the song's melody." There are quite a few other songs by them that you might like. Their more uptempo songs include Rubber Bullets (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6XUhHymp5WHZtk) and The Dean and I (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYvYf5yHabikabc). There's also the very catchy The Things We Do For Love (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmHVl2aVq86Hrs0). My favourite song of theirs that was a single is I'm Mandy Fly Me (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXnde2iInJ5jbs0). However, for me, the best 10cc song of all is the majestic 11 minutes of Feel The Benefit (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3nGqZuZiNGHmZY). There should have been so much more from them...

I would also recommend that you seek out their singles Art For Art's Sake and Dreadlock Holiday and album tracks such as Don't Hang Up (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGi0lYKlYquUbtk) and the excellent instrumental How Dare You (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHraXp9-brV6jJY). In fact I'd recommend their album How Dare You (1976) as a whole, as it perfectly encapsulates what the band was all about.
