I know of a prior Marine that I went to MEPS with back in September 2022. He has a Master's Degree in Health Administration with a 3.6 GPA. He decided to enlist in the US Army as an Human Resources Specialist and go in as an E-4, the same rank he was when he left the Marine Corps back in 2015. I told him to go as an Officer because he would get promoted faster with his advanced degree, but he told me that a recruiter said to him that his chances to get into US Army OCS are "very low about 20 percent." The last class of August 2022 had a selection rate of 80 percent (98 selected to active duty out of 122 applicants), and when I showed him that he was surprised. He could have been an Officer because the board date was just yesterday for this fiscal year. Instead he's hoping to get "connections" working as an HR to go to OCS. I wish for him the best, but I couldn't believe he enlisted with a Master's Degree.

I can't believe they won't take him with a masters in Healthcare Administration. When we all go mobilied during Desert Storm we had a platoon leader, a Marine 1st lieutenant, in the Marine Corps Reserve that had a masters in healthcare Admin. When we all got to Camp Pendleton the Naval Hospital heard about him and came and talked to him and a few days later he disappeared, the Navy gave him a jump from O-2 to O-4, Lieutenant commander, with an active duty contract.

Glad I came across this. I’m 26, CPA with a Masters. Paid 80k plus bonuses. For me, the office is what I’m trying so hard to escape. Wanted some experiences and fulfillment. I was gonna go see a recruiter next week bc I was set on enlisting in the Marines. I also had a connection through a mutual friend and got to speak with an Officer in the AF. He told me that aside from special warfare that Officer life is heavy on being behind a desk. But I’m seeing conflicting comments in here. Regardless that’s what led me to thinking of enlistment as I really don’t want that at all. The age doesn’t bother me, Im humble and still physically feel like I’m 22. But the hard reality is scrubbing toilets like mentioned in the video. Hard to know which opinion to trust as there are videos out there saying the complete opposite advice of what’s said here! Unfortunately, I don’t personally know any marines or former to ask their opinion so I’m using the internet.

5:16... I have been hearing from other podcasts (with active duty personel), across branches, that they are going back to the basics of their mission set. For example, special warfare units in the Air Force are saying that while they may see some combat in the future, they aren't going to be kicking down doors like they were a decade ago. They are “trying to be grey again”. Ones Ready podcast goes into that tangent often, in regards to all of SOCOM. I bring this up because Seals may very well be focusing more on diving, now that they are out of non-diving environments. The focus is going to be on where we're going to be in 2030-2040+. I don't know shit for shit, so I could be way off...

1:27 honesty in the right time can prevent a huge mistake. They read about rambo starting enlisted, and dont realize first: you probably didnt have rambo's life where that was your only choice. You also dont hear about all the rambos dropped because of a variety of things like falling in the o course, etc. Also, not enlisted want to get the officer billet when they can so why not starting two steps ahead. I think its a lack of mental preparation, they stick to the hollywood path and dont prepare for worst case, or actually, most probable path. In this case, its great, he wants to go try one of the hardest trainings in the world, but go enlisted because it would be easier. Perhaps he lasts two weeks in buds

Jake, I don’t understand why these guys with degrees want the enlisted route. They don’t know why this is a bad idea! Officer package is the best route unless he’s running away from leadership. Sounds like he don’t want the responsibility that comes with leadership but he wants to fight. He didn’t sound confident to me bro. He will end up getting pounded by the hard hitters either route. Just didn’t seem leadership like to me. Let him go enlisted. That might be where he really needs to be. He sounded like a butter bar none of us respected. The Army will grind him out bro….
