A long time ago, back in the late 90's, I had two N4's - one actual Padauk model (which I was told was very rare and handmade in Chicago, Padauk body and neck, ebony fingerboard, black headstock logo, found it in a pawnshop in Maine for $1200), and another quilt top model with a swamp ash body. I sold them in the early 2000's but miss them, they were truly great guitars, especially that Padauk model, it just felt so good to play.

10:19 Reb Beach’s koa Pensa/Suhr had an oil finish. To this day that Koa Suhr and Nuno guitars are among my favorites.

LOL. I'm the guy who owned the "4N" and sold it on ebay. What do you want to know? The serial number? Pictures of me holding it? The story of the signature that's on the back of the headstock Nuno did for me in 1993? I owned it for the first 14 years and sold it on eBay, not to a person in the Netherlands, but to another person who sold it again a couple years after me. I'm easy to find and I'll tell you what you want to know. Any one of you can contact me if you want. I reached out to Washburn at the time to tell them all I knew about the guitar's past, but they didn't respond. I honestly am taken back by the apparent need to "debunk" the info I provided, and do so incorrectly with such smugness. Actually, you've said I made big claims that I never made, so that's a bit off-putting. For instance, I've never said it was a prototype. Now I feel like I've stepped on Nuno's and Washburn's toes somehow for sharing my first-hand knowledge of the guitar. It was clearly not welcome. I had no idea it wouldn't be. I only did so because I saw interest generated by the manufacture of the 4N with scant details available. I'm just a guy who happened to own and love that guitar. The story of it for the first 14 years is mine, not Nuno's or Washburn's, and if they don't want to actually know, it doesn't change things. But nothing I've ever said about my time with that guitar is false. Cool video otherwise.

@@MastersofShred I accept your apology. If that was all the video had said, it wouldn't have bothered me. But you said "as of right now, that information turns out to be false" and you have to know that's going to really get under the skin of a person telling the truth, especially because people will see this and looks like everyone agrees with that. But Nuno wasn't actually going that far and just stated what he knew about where he got it, which I'm sure is ALSO accurate. Alot of time passes from when I sold it to when Nuno got it. Anyway, if Nuno cares to trace the guitar back, he'll find me as a kid trading in a bunch of gear to obtain it. And if he reaches back into the recesses of his mind, he might ever remember when he signed it for me in 1993, because at that time I gave him a miniature wooden pin of the N4 I had a local guy make for me. I only had it made because that guy seemed like he needed some work and this was some business he was trying to start up. When I met Nuno that one time in Fresno, CA, I gave it to him, because I didn't really care. Maybe that stands out, maybe it doesn't. But Nuno, if it does register a memory, THAT's precisely when you first held the guitar you now love.

Have to agree dude... lots of misinformation. You sanded the neck down making it thinner. Washburn starts making 4Ns with thinner necks.... but they said the neck was thicker. Ugh.... geez. 4N has a much thinner neck.

I sanded it over the years little by little, focusing more on the places where it kept turning green, from around the 5th fret toward the nut, though I did sand it all over, but less so further up the neck. I didn't think I was making the guitar any better, but the profile shape described in this video matches what I had done. I've actually never played a 4N replica, much less compare it to any other N4, so I wouldn't have known anything other than what I've said. The fact is, no one in the video knows or says anything about the first 14 years of that guitar other than what they heard from me. It's so plainly obvious that I owned the guitar and that the receipts do all add up. I have to believe they know the answer, it's not even a question of fact-checking as Nuno joked, but for some reason I can't explain, someone there just doesn't like the answer. . This isn't a controversy, it's a nontroversy.

Almost 20 years ago, I bought a sunburst N4 on the internet from a brick and mortar shop in the US (I'm in France). UPS delivered a cardboard box containing a metal case and... no guitar in it ! Turns out the the guy had forgotten to put the guitar in the case. I was pretty pissed off, as you can imagine (thought I had been scammed). I contacted the shop, and the guitars was still hanging on the wall in the US. I ended up receiving it a couple of days later in a gigbag.

On my 21st birthday in 1990, my dad bought me a four hundred quid Washburn kc70v. It’s a little beauty. A proper 80s metal super strat and it is still a monster guitar….it will NEVER be sold……wish I could afford a real N4..coveted them for years….

I just got a brand new vintage N4 and had to send it back because the quality was so bad. Fret work was worse than anything I’ve seen. Body felt like it was cnc but never finished. Fine tuners were garbage. Neck felt great but I was so bummed out. Especially cause the neck was actually centered and didn’t have the high E super close to edge like many are causing roll off. Blows my mind that a guitar that costs $3500 has worse QC than a Harley Benton. My search continues and thankfully my padauk is perfect.

The Washburn currently, the 4N, are poorly adjusted from the factory...you have to take it to the luthier. My friend bought a Washburn 4N and told me, he lives in Thailand and he tried several 4Ns and they all fit poorly. A month later I bought the Washburn 4N and I felt it was a 600usd guitar....that guitar couldn't be worth 3300usd!!!!. I have a 1995 Washburn N2 and it felt much better!!! After being at the luthier and making a good adjustment, everything changed....now it is my favorite guitar!!!!! I don't understand how such an expensive guitar can reach the customer without being properly adjusted....that doesn't happen with Ibanez.

12:36 It's so true!! I've sanded the paint off 3 of my guitars and they all sound warmer and better to me. Tung oil is cheaper, and easier than fancy finishes that were layered and wet sanded to a mirror like finish and don't let the wood vibrate. Yeah, I'm tellin' ya but you don't have to listen. lol.

I remember when the Nuno guitars came out, people were stripping the finish off their cheap superstrat guitars and rrealising they were made from junk wood and were full of filler. Some people stripped Japanese copies and relaised they were made from plywood, I did airbrushing and suddenly started getting guitar refinishing work from all these stripped guitars.

You should have asked, or ask next time if you can, because the Washburns are poorly adjusted when they come out... mine arrived poorly adjusted, the strings 2 miles from the neck with a lot of tension.... All of us who have currently purchased a 4N have had to take the guitar to the luthier. This is not very normal if the guitar costs 3300usd.
