My question is, why so many moves? Your opponent throws a punch and you respond with 3 moves (block, hit their arm, and counterpunch). Isn't that approach ineffective and using too much energy? Wouldn't it make sense doing something more direct and perhaps using less movements/steps? I do not claim to be a martial arts expert, just curious

I think this is as good tool for practising and building speed but in real life you would block and then just punch with the other hand, the slap down adds safety as it takes the opponents striking arm down and out of action.

speed comes from relaxation and the very slow practice of siu nim tao..move slow to build relaxation so to move quickly..relax and watch how fast you will be.
