Many metal bands don't do too well when they turn it down. Mastodon are, I'm more and more convinced with each passing album, our generation's metal version of Rush. They can change styles and atmospheres from album to album and still consistently sound like Mastodon regardless. The talent and passion is such wow.

For sure. They are a modern enigma for sure. All of them are insanely talented musicians and song writers. Each top class in their instrument and style. Really all I want to see from Mastodon at this point. Is a heavily psychedelia influenced album written mostly by Brent. I'd love to hear more songs like Pendulous Skin and Joseph Merrick. Even if that never happens I wont complain. They are free to do as they please and they should. Would just be cool to see an album like that. Check out those songs if you've never heard them before.

It took me a while to get over the transition from their earlier hard rocking anger fueled musical style to the more melodical but I'm grateful and happy I did. Its a strange sensation growing along with the music or rather, growing into it with parts that didnt agree with me a decade ago.
