Mainly because the vocals. Brent and Troy wrecked their voices but if you go back and look at super early performances from them like workhorse in 2004 they sounded incredible when they could still to the harsh vocals. Once they couldn’t do the harsh vocals as well it fucked with the live sound especially Brent because there was a fairly decent stretch where he couldn’t sing well live. Also some of the newer stuff isn’t complex and they’ve actually but more emphasize on learning to actually sing well. Lastly they likely just better musicians than they were in the older days, years and years more experience playing live. The older stuff sounds pretty good these days now the harsh vocals are just toned down when they perform them. Like the K pit show they did with Scott Kelly where they played a mix of old and new and it all sounded great. I do think there was a stretch where the old stuff wasn’t sounding as good live but I think in the last couple years it’s sounded good and they’re prob the best they ever been live.

@@puppetmaster8551 to be honest Bill can take the credit for stuff from Remission or Leviathan. He admitted that in the beginning no one was the real lead singer and also that all sang, so he could take credit for songs like March of the fire ants, Blood and Thunder, Crusher Destroyer, etc.
