What I truly admire about Brent aside form his uniquely talented playing is that he, genuinely, doesn't give a hoot what anyone thinks about him! His free spirit is a huge reason why his parts are so good and the band so awesome!

I love Brent especially like towards the end you look at him and he's just playing this epic, killer shit with an actual goddamn feeling to it but it's still technical as well and he's looking around confused like not even HE knows where it's coming from... it's unbelievable, man, the entire group are born musicians but this guy literally is from another planet on that intuitive level. To the extent he probably couldn't have done anything else in his life but play music. He was born for it.

swingonthespiral in my opinion, it's not (listened to the leak) BUT it's in my top 3. Most experimental since Crack the Skye, heaviest since Blood Mountain, but most melodic in the singing thanks to Brann doing WAY more frequent vocal work.

I love Brent Hinds, but I will never forget the show at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. They were touring their Crack the Skye Album and performing in full. This happen to be the missing link show. Baroness opened (killed it!), along with bison BC and some other small bands. High on fire was also there and Matt Pike and the fellas were absolutely killing it! On the side of the stage I saw Brent Hinds. Mind you this my first time seeing Mastodon and was pumped! They were finishing up Snakes for the Divide and Brent watched the whole show from the side with a red cup in his hand. He was rocking out to HoF. Between the Buried and Me goes on, finishes their set and now it was time for Mastodon!! From the start it looked bad. Brent was complaining all show about his sound. Saying he couldn't hear and he just looked shit faced. To his credit though, he played and hit just about every note for the majority of the songs. They finish their Crack the Skye set and Brent like throws this bitch fit and takes off stage. And you could see Troy and Brann looking at each other like, "Aw, fuck. This dude might fuck up the ending for us." Long story even longer. They takes like 10mins to come back on stage for their encore set list and say this is their last song and played Blood and Thunder without Brent. Bill was doing what he could. God bless his soul. But then comes out Brent stumbling and shit half way through the song to do it and leaves again and that was it. Moral of the story is I love his Brent, but god damn I'm still salty as fuck they had to cut the show short cause of Brent drunk ass. Next day I see articles all over the web about him being too drunk to perform. Haha Love Mastodon still though. New albums kicks ass.
