As a guy working in the coffee industry, this was refreshing to listen to! Matt knows his stuff and seems genuinely appreciative of the nuances of making espresso. The GS3 is an awesome machine and he's right that, most importantly, its all about the grinder (and distribution in the basket AND obviously the coffee). So many great roasters now days too out there. Gotta love it.

could you recommend a good budget set up for a novice espresso lover? it is my dads 70th bday soon and he has a double shot of espresso every afternoon and loves the routine and i would love to upgrade him from his little Nespresso machine, but he doesn't need anything crazy like this
@Kyle900t3 жыл бұрын
@@Luke-do1ek Hey. It really depends on a lot of things. Budget, milk drinks, space in kitchen, expectations, etc. Also grinder is more important then the machibe. I suggest you browse the home-barista forum. You'll get a much better answer then what I can give you here.
@nickouellette12 жыл бұрын
@@Luke-do1ek The Breville Oracle is prob the best combo of premium enough, semi-auto expresso machine You can prob get one of the older ones (without the touch screen, which is not useful enough to justify price IMO) for < $2k. $1.5-2.5k I think is around the min budget for an entry level 'serious' espresso setup If you are making an espresso drink every day with good beans, the machine should 'pay for' itself after a couple of years IMO anything much cheaper (including the Nespresso products) is just not in the same universe.. not to mention all the pods you have have constantly buy

This coffee setup is absurd! To everyone who didn’t know before that that’s a GS3: Even if you have the money for it, you consider twice if you put such a machine in your home. It’s the coffee equivalent of a super sports car. For home use, I would already consider the Linea Mini (one class under this beauty) as my craziest dream. But hell, if you are five times fittest man, own a military arsenal of guns and the finest fitness equipment there is, why not go all in for coffee as well! Love it! I hope this continues to bring you great joy! My Appartamento definitely does that every morning for me.

For Non-Coffee people watching this, do not be intimidated. Espresso is a world in and of itself even in the world of specialty coffee. You can get some amazing results doing filter coffee using something like a v60 cone filter and an entry electric grinder like Wilfa Svart grinder or a manual grinder like the Hario Mini. The whole setup costing you around $50 and taking up minimal space. Mat is clearly well versed in Espresso and he's built a very solid setup over time. You can start really small and cheap and get results that are WAY WAY WAY better than Starbucks/Instant and gives you room to explore new beans and flavors.
