Match Fishing Basics - How To Add & Remove Shot On Your Line
Adding and removing shot on your rig line is something that you will be doing regularly as a match angler. You need to be able to do this confidently without casuing damage to your rig mainline. Using the correct tackle such as a good pair of shotting pliers will allow you to be able to do this comfortably, even whilst on the bank fishing so long as the line is kept under tension.

Thanks, any tips on getting the line into the jaws of the shot please. I'm okay when using stotz but struggle with shot because they're round. Thanks

Yes they definitely can be trickier than stotz. I find that slowly rolling the shot between my finger and thumb until it traps against the tensioned line makes it a bit easier. Practice is key! 🤞

Using a finger or thumbnail to open the shot a bit wider can make it easier to put on the line.

It does take some practice, but I will regularly shot up rigs on the bank before a match. Once hooked up on your topkit it makes it much easier. 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟
