Wonderful videos. A real help. Please make a video on how you made your rig board. That would be very useful. Thanks

How long are you making the overall rig lengh?

It would be roughly around 6ft + as I wouldn't use the rig in depths any deeper than about 5ft on a calm day.

How do you know what size silicone to use for different floats please?
@JP.MatchFishing5 ай бұрын
I don't believe there's a written rule on the exact sizes to use, But generally the finer the float stem the smaller the silicone diameter you can use. As long as your silicone holds the float firmly on the mainline without it moving to easily you should have no problems whilst fishing. Hope this helps 🤞

Thanks for the video. When would you choose a spread bulk as opposed to a bulk together above the hook length? Thanks
@JP.MatchFishing5 ай бұрын
I would personally only really use a fixed bulk pattern for some margin rigs and jigga rigs. The spread bulk helps to create a curve in your line when fishing on the deck aiding with bite indication. Jamie Hughes has spoken in depth about this on other videos. Hope this helps, thanks for watching. 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣

Is there a general rule of thumb as to when to use a 4" hook length or a 6" when pole fishing? Thanks
@JP.MatchFishing5 ай бұрын
I think there're many different reasons to use different hooklengths. Things like bait presentation, target species, rig type can all play a part in selecting your hooklength. I know some of the bigger channels have covered this topic in detail, but the most important thing is using something that you have confidence in. Keep it simple. 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟

It does take some practice, but I will regularly shot up rigs on the bank before a match. Once hooked up on your topkit it makes it much easier. 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟

Thanks, any tips on getting the line into the jaws of the shot please. I'm okay when using stotz but struggle with shot because they're round. Thanks
@JP.MatchFishing6 ай бұрын
Yes they definitely can be trickier than stotz. I find that slowly rolling the shot between my finger and thumb until it traps against the tensioned line makes it a bit easier. Practice is key! 🤞
@CB-xr1eg6 ай бұрын
Using a finger or thumbnail to open the shot a bit wider can make it easier to put on the line.

Could you show where you connect the bottom loop to your rig board , please.
@JP.MatchFishing6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I use a homemade rig board with a pin at the one end. I use some old pole elastic then with a rig hook onto the loop to keep it under tension. Hope this helps 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟

Thanks for the video, why would you use a 6" hook length in the margin when it's probably less than 4ft deep. Only asking because as a general rule of thumb I would use a 4" hook length for depths of up to 4ft and 6" for anything deeper. Thanks
@JP.MatchFishing6 ай бұрын
I prefer using the longer hooklengths in the margin as I believe the carp can become spooked sometimes if they bump into a heavy bulk of shot whilst feeding, also your bites will normally be extremely positive so I don't think you need the shot as close to your hooklength to see the bites. This is only my opinion, if something works for you, and you have confidence in it, don't change it!!! 🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟🎣🐟

Why 5 x #9 for the bulk and not 2 x #6 + 1 x #9 or 1 x #3
@JP.MatchFishing7 ай бұрын
Years back the UK government actually banned the use of lead split shot bigger than No. 8 to protect wildlife from lead poisoning. Although nearly all shot are now non toxic I personally never use a split shot bigger than size 8 on a still water. The use of smaller shots now seems to be more common practice when fishing commercial waters. Hope this helps 🎣🎣🎣

How do you know what size silicone for different floats please?
@JP.MatchFishing8 ай бұрын
Manufacturers will specify the stem diameter of your float. But personally keeping a selection of various silicone to hand when making up your rigs will cover you for nearly all eventualities.

A shot conversion chart will give you rough idea of what to shot each float up with but the best method is to test out while fishing to give you a true reflection

Do you not need shot in the line then to sink bait or does weight of pellet do that I assume? Thanks

Personally I'd not use any shot down the line as I'd rather a slower fall of the pellet when fishing this method shallow. Hope this helps, tight lines. 🎣🎣

I’d rather have a loop with extra line incase the end I fit the rig line frayed I can then pull thro elastic and re use the rest of the sound elastic

That works well when using a bead connector method, makes it very easy to cut back damaged elastic. Hoping to get a new video uploaded soon showing this. 👍🎣

Need to make a bigger loop and make a 2nd loop in it then cut the end off. You cant remove your version without a pin etc. Other style you just pull on the tag end
@JP.MatchFishing9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. I've never had many problems myself using this method except heavily used rigs, maybe line diameters make a difference? I generally use 0.17 - 0.19. I have seen the method that you mentioned just not something that I've used myself personally. Thanks for watching 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

@JP.MatchFishing10 ай бұрын
You can push the two loops back towards each other and reverse the method. Can be a little tricky sometimes after catching fish as the line pulls tight. I would recommend cutting the hooklength and using a new one for your next session. Hope this help...🎣🎣🎣

Another nice video. Could you do one explaining for us newbies working out what shot are needed for floats etc please?
@JP.MatchFishing10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback! If you look online you should easily be able to find what's called a shotting guide or conversion chart. It is a great guide to help with shotting up your pole floats. Use this as a guide, and adjust as needed for your different floats / shots you are using they all vary slightly. The best method is to test them whilst out fishing, this will give you a true reflection of how best to shot up your pole float. Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣🎣
