Check out this 70's style suit Gene has on today. He wore this suit more in 1974. This is the only time we see Gene in this suit for 1973.
We have a nice zing by Pat Harrington on Richard Dawson too.
Contestant: "I think I'll stick with Richard."
Pat Harrington: "That's more than Diana did!" (referring to Dawson's ex-wife, Diana Dors.) ouch!
Pat Harrington, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Jo Ann Pflug, Richard Dawson, and Betty White

True, but he might have been glad she went. He got full custody of their two kids. That was virtually unheard for a man in the 1970's. On the other hand, just before she committed suicide, she left her son a treasure map to find his inheritance. The only person who could translate the map- Dors third husband- committed suicide before he could decipher the code. No money has ever been found. Diana Dors was loopy. Shocking anyone cares- because of her attractive looks, no one is going to bat an eyelash at her eccentricity.

i figured that was the joke, wasn't aware dawson was married to "england's marilyn monroe". 9:39 brett is still laughing at the joke and dawson can barely hold back his own laughter. he apparently isn't all that choked up about it, it had been 7 years since the divorce. and since they had 2 kids together she may have been seen around the studio.

FINALLY it sounded like somebody told Brett Somers to SHUT UP!!Lol I saw a comment the other day that Ethel Merman told her to SHUT UP!! I CANNOT HARDLY WAIT TO SEE THAT EPISODE. LOL Sometimes she does say things that are laughable BUT it's overshadowed by her jealousy towards the women who sit on either side of Richard Dawson. Mainly at Betty White...... I do hope she didn't do as much jealousy banter when I get to the 1,000 episodes.

Not mandatory I am guessing but he does seem to become the best player of the game about this time, he isn't very good at matching in the beginning at about 19 tries for 5 matches but he seems to be getting better at it at this time.. ;0)

I've read that Richard Dawson would get angry if he wasn't chosen for the $5000 match. Eventually the producers put the star wheel into the show. That angered Dawson so much that he left Match Game shortly afterwards.
@dmnemaine
@dmnemaine 3 жыл бұрын
@@deanstrand4260 Pretty sure it was the opposite. Richard Dawson felt bad that he was constantly being called on for the head to head match, and not giving the others a chance. He seems to have been instrumental in getting the star wheel put in because of this. Also, he left off being a regular on Match Game because he was very busy with Family Feud.

I watched an episode from 1975 where Gene tells a contestant that she can't pick the same panelist twice after the contestant tried to choose Richard twice for the $5000 match. I read that they came up with the wheel to try to even it out as well.

Yeah, that seemed harsh to me too but Richard shrugged it off. It's noteworthy that Richard did make jokes sometimes about his divorce--but they were always at HIS expense, never Diana's. Pat Harrington did know Diana (and Richard.) He was part of the ensemble of the Steve Allen TV show starting around 1958; Richard and Diana were married in April 1959 while in NY to appear on that show. Steve Allen was at their wedding and was a godfather to their second son. In October 1962, Diana appeared on Stump the Stars ( might have been known as Pantomime Quiz at the time) and Pat Harrington was the host! Also, Stump the Stars was a creation of Mike Stokey-- who gave Richard his first US TV job. Long way of saying -- it's a small world, and at the time of this taping Richard had known Pat for around 14 years. I feel like Harrington was a reasonably funny guy who sometimes put his foot in his mouth and didn't know when to shut up. He talked over Gene so much on this show, too, which may be why this was (I'm pretty sure...) his only week. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHLGYnZqaamqiJo.
