Yes, I agree, Richard has been on a roll. But they let her get away with that. "Baby... um, I mean, what do you call them? Building blocks!" Cool for her, but I thought the first answer counted. And that was her fourth time up, but she's just over $3000? She's the best worst player I've ever seen.

@@proud_brettsomersfanclub8687 The best hitter in baseball does not always hit the ball, much less hit a home run. Who would you say has a better track record than Dawson for head-to-head matches? For the audience matches, his answer is almost always somewhere on the board, even if it isn't always the $500 answer. Sometimes his is the ONLY panel answer on the board. I would say he has some claim to being the best.

@@pencils812 Marcia Wallace has spoken about the sixth seat assignment specifically being to come up with unexpected answers to end the round with a good punchline. Matching was great for the contestants of course, but too much repetition was feared to make for boring television. Those sixth seat women should be applauded for their quick witted thinking but still they caught a lot of criticism when they failed to match. Although they all certainly proved over the years that they were perfectly capable of matching when it really counted for the contestants. When Maclean Stevenson eventually replaced Dawson, he complained how hard it was to come up with jokes that hadn't already been used. Meanwhile, the smart women in seat six certainly had more challenging job assignment.

End-of-week H/H match recap: ... This week we had 4 H/H matches total, 3 of which were successful: Richard 3/4 Yes, it was all Richard all the time this week. (No H/H matches on Monday or Thursday, but two on Friday.) He earned his 108th H/H match today (the first of the two attempts today), and this week Richard pulled ahead of Brett once again in matching accuracy and had quite an impressive streak going, with 7 consecutive matches until the odd "Hall of Ivy" answer failed to match the contestant (and after five wins, it was her first time playing for $5,000 too!). I honestly thought it was going to be an easy win for our champion who hasn't had the best of luck with the audience match, to say the least. Next week looks like another promising week with Orson and Joyce returning. But those incredible accuracy scores don't mean a thing if contestants don't choose them for a H/H match. Stay tuned... Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 50% (9 wins in 18 attempts). Betty - 48.4% (15 wins in 31 attempts). Charles - 47.4% (18 wins in 38 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 38.0% (108 wins in 284 attempts). Brett - 37.8% (17 wins in 45 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). And it's been a while since I've posted the list of celebs with 2 H/H matches (in alphabetical order): Charlie Brill 2 out of 3 tries (66.7%) Bill Daily 2 out of 2 tries (100%) Ann Elder 2 out of 3 tries (66.7%) Stu Gilliam 2 out of 5 tries (40%) Jack Klugman 2 out of 5 tries (40%) *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 525, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

So let's make sure people understand Dawson didn't invent the kissing thing for Family Feud. This girl dives in and plants a kiss on his lips and this is a year before Feud started. As we all know, Match Game was full of this celebratory kissing years before Feud started. But whenever anyone discusses Dawson or the original Feud, they talk like Dawson came up with the kissing thing all by himself.

I always thought a perfect game show would have the winner win the money (say $2,500) and go home, while the loser comes back for the next episode… basically, see how long it might take to win. This type of show (mostly luck of the draw) would be a perfect setting for this concept.

What the hell is Hall of Ivy?! I first thought of the Hall of Mirrors, at Versailles, then rejected that for hall of fame. I looked up Richard's answer, and The HallS of Ivy (plural!) was an NBC radio show 1950-52, and a CBS TV show in 1954-55, years before Dawson came to the US, and when the contestant was in diapers (if born). I was a teenager in 1975, and I don't remember anyone ever mentioning Halls of Ivy. I flat out do not believe that was the best or only thing that came to his mind.
