H/H match update: ... Today's action: Our reigning champion needed four Dean Martins to tie, but only Brett pulled through with a somewhat surprising match (although it was fitting that Brett matched her, because the champion had called on Brett for the head-to-head yesterday). The defeated champion leaves with $600 and a new champion prepares for his moment in the big-money spotlight. Today's audience match question: "_________ Stick " (My thoughts: Lip, Speed*, Bread --- *"Speed Stick" brand of deodorant was introduced in 1963, according to Wikipedia. I seem to remember TV commercials for it when I was kid.) The celebs: Lee (Lip), Richard (Match), and Brett (Pogo) The choice: Lip The answers: Big, Lip, Pogo (Funny how Brett comes up with the top answer in the third position not five minutes after Gene goes on about Richard being the best panelist!) It's time to guess our H/H celebrity! He chose Lee's answer, so I'm hoping he'll choose her - she's only played once before ( 633), but didn't earn her first match. I'd really like to see her earn that distinction. If not Lee, maybe Brett. But chances are it's going to be Richard again... Yup, it's Richard. I just did a quick review of all the head-to-head matches of the past 200 episodes (563-763 inclusive) and Richard was chosen 140 times and another celebrity was chosen 48 times. So Richard was chosen 74.5% of the time. Looking at the win/lose ratio of those past 200 episodes, Richard matched 66 times (47.1% of his attempts) and everyone else matched 25 times (52.1% of their attempts). ----- One takeaway from these stats is that Richard has been doing better the past 200 episodes than he did earlier in the show's run, and if this keeps up, his overall accuracy rate has room to rise. The second takeaway is that it's hard to say Richard is the best panelist at the head-to-head match, despite popular mythology. Today's H/H question: "Eagle _______ " (Maybe I'm not in a Match Game mood right now or something, because I'm not thinking of a good answer at all. Eagle eye? Eagle nest? Eagle ... bluck! I'll just say "eagle eye" and leave it at that.) Richard looks puzzled too, but not for long. He writes what appears to be a short answer and files it quickly. If it really is as short an answer as it seemed to me, maybe "eye" is a possibility... The contestant says "Scout." Well, that's really an obvious answer now that I hear it. I'm almost ready to say it's the definitive answer, but I better wait to hear what Richard wrote first, just in case there's something else I didn't think of! Richard's answer seals the deal: "Scout" was the definitive answer. Richard scores his 188th H/H match. Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). Fannie - 47.8% (11 wins in 23 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 41.8% (188 wins in 450 attempts). Brett - 41.3% (26 wins in 63 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 763, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

@magikexpert4 жыл бұрын
VERY true! NOT sure if everyone knows this or not? But, the only way that he (Jack Klugman) would come on this show when asked, was that if they would let Brett come on too. SO, in a way it's Jack Klugman's fault that we have to see that talent less bigmouth on this show. WHY she's still on I have no idea? Personally I think she does this show for free? But don't know that for sure.
@magikp66364 жыл бұрын
@@sdlively27 No MG wanted Jack on the show originally (because of his huge popularity of the Odd Couple at the time I'm sure) and he wouldn't go on the show unless they let Brett on as well. Without her he wouldn't go on. That's how she originally got on the show or got her foot in the door, so to speak. I don't know any details after that? I personally don't like her, never did. I thought she was useless on the show and made more of a hindrance then good. Just my opinion. I DO know that she was VERY wealthy. When she died she was worth 90 million dollars. That was a LOT of money back then, even today. Where or how she got her money, I have no idea. If you watch the show regularly, they even say on there that she even financed some of Charles Nelson Riley's projects.

@@magikp6636 Where did you get your info? I googled her net worth. You way off..... Brett Somers - Net Worth Somers earned most of her wealth by appearing in numerous movies and shows. It is hard to calculate how much she earned, but, usually, some actors make deals for a smaller upfront flat fee but get part of the royalties if the movie continues to be played on TV, whereas some actors take a flat fee for the movie and nothing on the back end, which means no royalty payments. Therefore, calculating the inflation, Brett Somers had an estimated net worth of $1.7 million.
