The judge was wrong. When the contestant said school, that covers all schools, college, finishing, night,etc. It's like when they say booze, they match whiskey, scotch, vodka, etc. If the contestant said Finishing School, then you could only match Finishing School. But by just saying school, that covers them all. How can you match Scuba Diving School, and not match Night School. Total Sham!

Horrible judging. Check out episode 1079. A contestant responds with bag. A couple celebs say paper bag/sack and its matched. Richard Dawson responds with 'plastic baggie' and its not matched. ????? The contestant said 'bag' so therefore all bags should be covered!!

what makes me the most irritated about this whole situation is that Ira Skutch didn't want to explain in person why college was acceptable, scuba diving school was acceptable, but finishing school and night school were not acceptable when the contestant answered School
@marinerman4 жыл бұрын
To me, I think he saw this was a rare situation where a contestant gave an answer that could be easily manipulated and lead to all six panelists matching him. As long as the word "school," or any type of school was written, that would count, and Ira likely thought that wouldn't be fair in the context of the game. Richard had every right to protest Ira's dumb judgment.

Since the contestant gave a general answer of just SCHOOL, any celebrity answer that denotes a school should be a match. So SCUBA DIVING SCHOOL, COLLEGE which is a school, NIGHT SCHOOL and FINISHING SCHOOL should all match. Ira set the precedent when he accepted COLLEGE from Ed Asner and Brett, so certainly any answer with the word SCHOOL in it should be accepted.

Ira Skutch royally screwed up on this ruling. The contestant should have had a perfect score as a result of his answer.If the contestant was wise, get a taping of the show and contacted an attorney who specializes in fraud, or represents any part of entertainment industry, he would be vindicated in a court of law, and CBS would be penalized.

This was from episode 1005. At the very end of episode 1000, when Johnny Olson announced the panel for the following week, the riot was foreshadowed. When Johnny got to Richard Dawson, Richard was holding a card that said "Never finished school".
@bullinmd12 жыл бұрын
If you do that, then Brett Sommers and Ed Asner have to lose their matches because "college" can be viewed as a specific form of "school". The more legitimate ideas would have been to either replace that question and indicate the problem at the end of the show OR give the contestant credit for all 6 answers.

Worst ruling by a game show judge since the 1950s! Debralee and Richard were working on the operative word "cultured" (why they both came up with "Finishing School"). The judge gave Charles credit (after initially refusing) for "Scuba Diving School" (with the emphasis on "School" via a box) and gave Edward and Brett credit for "College". You cannot be a just judge changing the rules mid-stream! Contestant should have been given either 0 or all 6.

They probably all had some form or booze or another.. It's well documented that Brett, Charles, Bill Daily (the numerous times he was on the show) and Richard all enjoyed cocktails at their lunch breaks and came back a little bit worse for wear. The contestant responded with 'School'. Ed and Brett replied "College/University', which is acceptable for other forms of school. Charles' answer would have been too specific IF he had not isolated the word 'School' on his card. Deborah Lee.....GODDESS that she was.....and Richard were too specific in their answers. Patti's answer, in my opinion, was the ONLY one which entered the grey area. Even I would have had a tough call on that one, so to err on the side of caution, I would have given the buzz.

+antonzap Charles made a case with his answer of scuba diving school and it was accepted because it had the word school it in and therefore, the other answers of finishing school and night school should've been accepted because of the mention of the word school in it as well. The only reason that college was accepted was that it is widely accepted as a higher form of school even though it doesn't spell in no way, shape or form, the word school in it's actual spelling. I applaud Charles, Debralee and Richard for holding their ground on this matter. Ira first buzzed scuba diving school, then changed the decision because Charles pointed out that s-c-h-o-o-l spelled school.
@dannyhill87977 жыл бұрын
