Fabulous, and you did, in my estimation, the perfect amount of detailing. I would have painted the pipes white, regretted it, and put them back to black. I too like CS paint, your application is next level. Thanks for posting and supporting such a worthy cause!
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
Thanks! I can relate to the "painting them white, regretting it, putting them back to black" kind of thing since I've done that many times. As time as gone on doing these silly little cars, I've think I've learned some things that help me reduce the number of times it happens -- it's not eliminated...but it's not every build now 🤣🤣🤣

Looks beautiful, turned out great. I prefer the pipes and bumpers to be chrome, with this casting that is easy to do. thanks for sharing I love the clean look
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
Thanks! About the pipes and bumpers - most of the time I feel the same way and prefer them chrome - but for this one I wanted to remain somewhat true to the original Red Rider and I think the contrast of the black against the pink is much more striking.

Love it. Long videos are fine when they are interesting and illustrate the challenges, and how you tackle them, Jim! The car looks terrific, though I can't help wondering why you didn't just paint the Muscle Machine! Nice to see the whole process though. Worthy cause, and worthwhile result!
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
Thanks Fraser! As to the "just paint the Muscle Machine" question, I try to bring a little "more" to my builds when I can, such as trying to bring back this Matchbox casting when I can't find a replacement engine for it. I think it makes the videos more interesting...and it sure makes the build more challenging for me.

I randomly seen the thumbnail on my feed and thought..man this specific casting must have had a thing with loosing its engine😅. I have a blue one ("pi eyed piper") i picked up used a while back and it's engine is gone. Ive been waiting to find the perfect engine replacement for it and to fix it back up. These old "super fast" matchbox have a awsome look to them.
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
They do have a really fun look to them! About the engines - I think it's the combination of having an engine that complete with the intake extends way above the roof line of the car...and then holding it in place with two small plastic posts. Those engines were doomed to disappear lol
@Johns_custom_hotwheelsАй бұрын
Looks beautiful Jim. I have 2 or 3 of them and of course missing the engines. Gave me good ideas in swapping engines I have laying around. I built a old Bronco and mixed up a custom pink. Hope it doesn't get lost in email world like my last few that didn't make the videos. Great work!
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
Thanks John! I figured that there should be some good options on replacement engines, with the only real challenge being the shape of the existing engine bay. After this, I know that so many of the Muscle Machine or similar casting engines will work well. I hope your picture gets to the Horsemen safely!
@Johns_custom_hotwheelsАй бұрын

Just watch this video was a really good job I was going to tell you that I had a 65 Chevy pickup when I wanted to do work on the engine I could sit on the fender stick my feet in the engine bay and still have room for a toolbox and my buddy who helped me out with most things
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
LOL it was crazy how much space there was in the engine bay back in the day. There was SO much room it made it easy to work on the car...but not any more. Heck, I'm lucky if I can figure out half of the stuff under the hood, and you're only able to see about a third of it lol.

Where do I find a string hacksaw just like yours for cutting model stuff? I don't know the name of that saw
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustomsАй бұрын
It's a jewelers saw or coping saw. If you get one, be sure to lubricate the blade with wax, such as the beeswax I use - it makes the cutting much easier and the blade lasts MUCH longer. I have the saw listed in my Amazon storefront www.amazon.com/shop/jimsilva/list/3UQLN39BKPTH4?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_WENAJRFY28C6SMPE9CVR
