The casting is so detailed that when it was painted back in the day, the paint covers all the small details of the casting. When you strip the paint off, is when you realize how carefully and how much love they put on those little cars. Is just awesome.

You work with competence and much love for this models - and the results are great! I was born in 1959 and like everywhere in the world me and my playmates here in Germany loved to collect Matchbox-Models and to play with them in the 1960s. Unfortunately this "Childhood-Hobby" has fallen into oblivion some day - and life took its natural course for many decades. To watch now these models "reborn" from a long time ago and looking as new is a wonderful experience! Thank you for that!

At the same time; of what I've learned from this educational video is that, make sure that the paint you're using doesn't wrinkle. Make sure there's no drips either. This is about painting problems, that should never unexpectingly occur.

This model proves a point to me. Recently saw a HW collector saying as a kid you were so much cooler if you had HW... tbh .... as a kid i think matchbox were so much more fun because the imagination was in the interesting and realism of the vehicle and pretending you were a firechief, tanker driver etc ... rather than a hotrod that kinda looked like nothing in particular. I love the detail in these old matchbox

The Matchbox toys were better-made than the Hot Wheels, too - until Lesney went belly-up. After main production moved to Asia, the quality dropped drastically.

My mother worked for Lesney at the king size factory in Rochford, and would bring me factory rejects of the models, she worked nights so it would be quite a treat to wake up to, especially as the imperfections were usually barely noticeable. I only discovered Marty’s channel this week whilst in bed with the flu, and it was an absolute joy. Sent a link to my Mum today, she was excited to check it out. My mum and her coworkers were taken to work, on a Routemaster double decker bus with a Matchbox paint job, used to see them regularly around town.

We used to run it around on some wooden track in the cloak room - that must be why they say school days are 'the happiest days of your life'. Great work as always Marty. A trick I learned while working in a body shop to get a crisp line between two different colors is to use automotive pin stripes to make the line. Then, go with masking tape to cover up the rest of the parts that you don't want painted with the secondary color. The pin striping won't allow anything to bleed underneath. I'm glad you brought this up. Your waterslide decorations are decals. Not really transfers. Definitely NOT stickers. Transfers would be something where all the color is transferred from one media to another, like a t-shirt iron-on or a temporary tattoo. Stickers have a self-adhesive sticky base, usually on paper or plastic. There were some "stickers" used by Lesney, but "stickers" usually refers to something the consumer applies, and usually the kind of things kids put on their notebooks, lunchboxes, etc. The stickers used by Lesney to decorate their models, being factory applied, are still referred to as decals. With models, you're always a safe using the word "decals."

Hi Marty, having been a signwriter/decorator in the distant past, I can confirm that paint stripper definitely degrades with age, and I should think that the 'crocodiling' of the paint was due to second coating the yellow thus making it take longer to cure and not leaving it long enough afterwards before lacquering.You must be related to regenerative species for your thumb to grow back that quickly! (And your little jokes are becoming rather more complicated, most enjoyable). Best wishes from me! I'm impressed with your decal-making skills.

I NEVER knew tyese where real tankers. What a sad time we live in where such unique vehicles are no longer available. No one builds anything unless they can make millions from it and produce hundreds of thousands of them. We are witnesses to the dying throws of innovation people.
@someirishfella17046 жыл бұрын
Thats sadly too true, and even more upsetting most people dont see it , i dont even make a sandwich without details , to me if you skip on details on what you make then how can you ever know the details of yourself
@octane6136 жыл бұрын
Well a vehicle like this dying makes sense. Sure its neat, and unique, which is exactly why it didnt survive. A trailer that any truck can pull is better than a proprietary vehicle with parts that only fit that vehicle. Plus, its not very safe. In an impact in the front, how do you get out? Your doors are mashed in.
@RobSchofield6 жыл бұрын
The Autotanker was a design based on an existing bus chassis, commissioned by BP and shown at Earl's Court. The tank volume was not exceptional, but the main benefit was the low-cost chassis and running gear. Not long after the design was shown, tankers started to go to articulated designs, rather than single-chassis. So, rather sadly, this design was never used and was scrapped. What a shame!
