Quite amazing to see these iconic toys from our childhood being restored to their original glory. It's very evocative to see them again, and they were very good quality. It's no wonder they have had a hard life, they were always very well played with!!

Marty, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed discovering your channel. I grew up in the 60s and have / had many of the match boxes I've seen you work on. AND, I hand painted them! You've now given me hope that I MIGHT try my hand at restoring them to their semi-original condition. And, even if I choose to not take that on, in part for lack of tools, I'll still enjoy thinking about restoring them! Good day!

06:06 - The rear tyre that was on the tractor was, in fact, a CORGI truck tyre. Lesney tyres were always polythene of a very tough formulation. CORGI used soft rubber, which perished or went brittle after several years. Matchbox tyres were almost indestructible - the annoying thing, though, is that, for some reason, the rims shrink, and the tyre becomes loose. I find UHU glue is the best thing to secure the tyre. Spread round the wheelrim, and leave to get tacky, and do the same to the inside of the tyre. When both are tacky to the touch, fit together. They'll stay together. Superglue does not adhere well to polythene, and will leave a white bloom on the plastic. The finished tractor and trailer look awesome. Great work! Thanks for sharing.

These videos are so relaxing to watch, like Bob Ross but with Matchbox models. I got a box full of Matchbox and Dinky Toys I "restored" (read: ruined) as a kid and I've finally started getting the materials together to properly restore them.

It's a shame that Matchbox sold out in the later years. The detail went, more and more plastic used and they became more gimmicky than realistic. These old models are just great and it's good to see these and other restorations on KZbin!

Marty, as an avid John Deere collector I have well over 150 tractors and assorted JD items. I had NO idea that Matchbox made a JD tractor. Now I am on a quest to find one to add to my collection. Of course I will need to look for that trailer too. Thank You so much for this GREAT video ! Chris in Missouri

Now this is exactly where I'd suggest the microblaster. It's not very awesome for wide-area paint removal, but for getting into corners and small details, it's top-notch, and doesn't risk scratching up the model with an ill-placed movement.
