Information: the former models - I think until 1968/-9 - had chrome at the headlights and the grille. the last run in the regular series and in the superfast range (only produced in 1970) had no chrome in front. OBS: Thanks for showing your home/workshop in a last video. Greetings from Germany to Australia

Hi Marty. Actually, the Ecto 1 was a Miller Meteor conversion using a '59 Cadillac. Your model (one of my personal favorites) is the S&S conversion on a 1963 Cadillac. I have like 4 of these, and the paint color is all over the map. From very white to yellowish off white. I did one up as a hearse back in the day in black with black rear side windows. Left it on a windowsill and the windows shrunk in the sun (edit: wrote this before you discovered what heat can do to these parts), so I gave it to my nephew (this was before ebay and easily found spare parts). Love to see one in red. It's a common model (this is a nudgy hint, Marty). Kyle ~

As a child, I held the ambulance for one of my eyes, and walk over street with it. With the interior, it was if I was IN the car, driving it. I did the same with ships, aeroplanes, cowboys and knights on horses... My parents tought I was mad or something... But it is a way of looking at, and in perspective. Like I do now with making photo's. About the paint on the windscreen. Use ovencleaner, it melts away the paint, but beware, it can also damage old plastics. Great video anyway.

Loving these videos I had over 300 Matchbox cars as a kid, about 100 were kept in their boxes and in cases for "indoor play only" and the rest got played with in the yard, modified, painted, etc. I had six police cars I repainted to look like 1960's NYC patrol cars. At least 3/4 of them we pre-Superfast models. I would wander the neighborhood returning bottles for deposits and checking payphones and vending machines for coins in whatever city we lived in. Met Elvis Presley in the Florence SC Sears while I was there to buy Matchbox cars with money I made from selling boiled peanuts. I went to sea on sailing ships in my late teens to come home and find my kid brother had traded, destroyed, and otherwise lost all of them.

First of all, what a great video Marty! I thoroughly enjoyed it, as usual. Thank you! First time ever commenting, because some things bugged me about certain comments. To all of these commenters who have said that Marty got his research wrong with this car, they need to do their own research. Everything Marty said about this car was indeed true and correct. This Cadillac ambulance casting was based on the 1960-'61 model year Cadillac, and was produced by Lesney from 1965 through 1970. The company that modified this Cadillac, was in fact, Sayers and Scoville (S&S). They remain in business today, but they no longer produce ambulances. The Ecto-1 Ambulance in the film _Ghostbusters_ was a 1959 Cadillac and was modified by a different Coach company, Miller-Meteor. This company went out of business in 1979. Maybe Marty should have said this ambulance is "similar" to the vehicle in the movie _Ghostbusters,_ but I knew what he meant! They are both Cadillac ambulances! Geeze! *Seriously, why all the criticism?* Also, let me address everyone saying that the A-pillars are "bent." No, they aren't! From the top of the car, they curve back, like on many 50's and 60's American made cars. Marty is here to entertain us and he does a fantastic job. He has a great sense of humor, his talent is exceptional, and he does his research. It's all wonderfully put together and extremely entertaining. I would love to have this guy as my neighbor. He rocks! Cheers from Texas Marty. Keep up the great work mate! :) Edit: To all the haters of me saying "cheers" to Marty, because I live in Texas. I said "cheers" because I can say whatever I want. I said cheers because I like that word, and want to pay some respect to my Australian brother (no, he's not my real brother). I also said cheers because I like the Australian culture. Anybody that disagrees with me can go troll another comment section.

The original of this model was a 1963 or 1964 Cadillac. The manufacturer of the ambulance was the S & S - Sayers and Scovill - company. For the Ecto 1, the chassis is - as you say - a 1959 Cadillac. The manufacturer of the Ambulance was here the company Miller Meteor.
@ConiferUnderTaker5 жыл бұрын
the 59 Cadiilac Miller Meteors (M&M) and of course Ecto-1 had the 390 cid. being that cadillac provided the chasis's for coach builders all had the same. (not all Hearses, ambulances od this era were made from caddy's tho) in 1964 cadiilac changed the motor to the 429, and to the 472 in 1968. Good eye Mi62Ni! Marty's coach is definitely a 63-64 S&S.

FOCUS YOU FAHK! it works for AvE... Anyway, as always great job Marty! Awesome detailing in the grille and the license plate... Have you ever thought of doing a Ghostbusters version out of this maybe someday?

I vividly remember as a child these things screaming past my house to a nearby hospital...they looked like white hearses and gave me nightmares for years. Would love to pick one of these up someday as a reminder....

I was worried you would drink from the brake fluid the moment you set is along with the beverage, this is a good example of what can go wrong in a shop when we're not careful. I'm assuming you left that mistake in for others to learn from. I had a very similar experience myself actually, but I wasn't in the shop I was at the sperm bank. This kind of thing can happen to anyone * EVEN PROFESSIONALS *

Very impressed with your work. I imported a Corgi Chev Impala which was totaled out of the UK which like your Caddy, had blobs of thick paint on it, busted windscreen, no tyres etc & was only suitable for a full resto. I used it as a practice mule to see what sort of a job I could do with it. Did a custom paint job using a pastel a colour for the period, change the interior colour to match & it came up really nice. Now for my next project - a Plymouth sports wagon. A restorers job is never done.

Your wife's toothbrush is looking a little worse for wear. Best use all that KZbin money to buy her a new one!

AH the Cadillac ambulance, I have one of those. One of my favorite castings from Matchbox. You did a very nice job bring that one back to life.
