I met Rob Thomas when they came to Burlington Vermont back in 98 and he told me this was his favorite song on the album:) He hugged me and I made him laugh when I asked him if he had a significant other lol. This album was a huge part of my life in the 90s and early 2000s. Was always playing in my car. I’ve lost that love of my life. He was murdered 5 years ago. His killer will finally be sentenced in September. He was with me at this concert. I remember it so clearly. And I’ve still got the shirt rob autographed for me. I’ll always treasure it ❤️

All the good concerts Ive ever been too were in Burlington Vermont. Maybe cuz I lived there too many years. Ironically Burlington is muder capitol of Vermont now. Very sad state of affairs. So sorry for your loss. Just believe that your loves killer will get whats coming to him. I always try to feel thats true. Luck, love&🙏

You are right. You know, I'm not suicidal, but I really have no desire to live in this world. The world that exists now. How did things ever get so bad? And, the irony is that this new generation, these people who think they're fighting for injustices and rights, are the ones who are killing everything! Seriously, who wants to live in this shit? There's nothing worse than a life that's just going through the motions!

Its 2023 and im listening to this Masterpiece of a Song and The lyrics hit hard. I love Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas gives me Goosebumps. I miss the 90's a time when life was a lot simpler. We had our ups and downs but nothing compared to what's going on Today. This music makes you sit and reminisce about life. I cry every time listening to this Song because the way Rob sings and expresses how I've felt at times. This Song was so underated. Rob Thomas makes me feel better every time I listen to him sing. Sometimes its hard to get back to good.

One of the greatest songs ever, the lyrics are so well written. That's saying a lot considering Matchbox 20 has numerous songs that could be labeled the same, such a talented group fueled by Rob Thomas with his unique voice and style.

This is how a great song is supposed to sound. The words are clear but creative. The music caresses the lyrics where they intertwine and give the words that extra feeling.

An excellent choice of place for this song. I especially love the line "everyone gets caught up in the pleasure of the pain". That's very true of so many different things with humans; emotional drama, whining about one's problems without an intention to fix them, S&M, sexual violence (pleasure of causing someone else pain), wars, and so much more.

@mackdaddy6847

it's actually, everyone here gets caught up in the pleasure OR the pain....as in , liking either pleasure or pain too much, like to an extreme. We must remember what Socrates taught us....too much of anything can be bad. We should strive for harmonious balance, in all things, & to stay true to our Maker, and ourselves, to truly live life right.

When this song came out I had been working as head of security at a nightclub. (2nd job) Was bout 4 years or so, anyway This song would be played, always, near the end of the night and I would just stand from my advantage/watch point and just sing along with this... knowing this is exactly what was happening with the 300+ people around me. Loved this song then and love it even more now, that I am older and can appreciate the context. Wish they still made songs like that today, or at the very least, not make them so very far and few in-between. Luck & Loot to you all...
