We did get them in the US, just not very many and not for very long. A few years ago I came across a car carrier trailer behind a barn in a rural part of New Jersey (!) that had three of these on board. All were rusty and neglected but someone must have cared enough for them at one time to gather them all together.

@@teenchy well, I'll be damned. I'm a 55 year old car nut and never saw a Rover car even at a car show. I'd love to have one.

@@billhowe3867 They only sold about 1200 of them, largely because BL barely had a US dealership network, and what little advertising they bothered to do was mostly for other cars. (The 3500 was also pretty expensive vs. its nearest competitors in this market-IIRC the British pound was worth something like $2.40 at the time.)

Oh no! This brings back memories. Thirty odd years ago I ran a licensee's warehouse. Our boss had one of these. He was a big bloke. Had to have his clothes specially made. He was that big. And the Rover 3500 was bright yellow. I'm worried about flashbacks now. Ha-ha.

Oh my god Rob, having to paint it THREE times, nightrmare! It turned out great, although I would prefer smaller wheels. I use to walk by a brand new brown Rover 3500 on the way to school, back in the mid 70's when they 1st came out. At the time, it was the only car I looked forward to seeing on that walk. I thought they looked so ultra modern. Fabulous shape and interior. I still like them.

Thanks for the lovely comments, though - they cheered me up on a particularly dull day. Cheers! Hideous 1970's colours? Oh yes. A friend of mine had a Morris Marina, in what could only be described as 'Baby's First Poo Tan'.😆 Your model looks astonishing - and those wheels do look like 'Rostyles' which would have been fitted on the real car. US law states anny car above 20 years old could be imported. You could find an old one for aprox 900 dollars, then spend 5000 and you wil have a gem. So if you want with effort your dream can come true. Of course the noghtmare of an old UK car wil come then. Ellectrics, oil leaks, bad construction. Better of with a Citroen CX. Not perfect but better.

@@ruckusracing419 if it was built in the 70s early 80s and has a BL badge you are assured shite quality but then that's true of most car manufacturers of that period , it was the dawn of radical new materials like plastics etc being used so a lot of trial and error was going on

Brilliant job Rob. Please don't call me picky, but the indicators on the rear should be on the outside of the car not the inside near the number plate. I had a few of these in my youth, back when you could pick them up for banger money, 2 to £300. You would be lucky to find a good one for less than 3 grand now. How things have changed since the late 80's. Keep them coming mate. I hope I win the draw for this one, brings back a lot of great memories.
