See but that isn't always the case. I've seen enough of these shows to know it depends on the day the guy who decides a match is having. There are definitely inconsistencies in this show. Idk, but I don't think Fanny meant to blurt it out like that.

H/H match update: ... Today's action: (After winning $5,600 in a single game, our last champion was defeated in the closing moments of yesterday's program.) And so we start today's show with a brand-new champion's first go at the Super-Match. Today's audience match question: "Jolly ________" (My thoughts: Roger, Good Fellow, Green Giant) The celebs: Richard (Green Giant), Dick (Roger), and Fannie (Good Fellow) The choice: Green Giant The answers: Old Saint Nick, Roger, Green Giant Our new champion won $500 with Richard's suggestion. After a momentary pause with Fannie yesterday, I suspect the "Match Richard Dawson Segment" will return today... Breathless from her smooch with Richard (and/or the excitement of winning a little money), she selects Richard. He's missed his last three attempts in a row, and matched 4 of his 16 most recent attempts. Going back a little further, he's matched 11 of his 32 most recent attempts which is a respectable 34.4%. Also, Richard is still at 199 matches, will this finally be number 200? Today's H/H question: "_______ Long" (This one seems hard to me. If it's a name, I can't think of who might be top of mind in 1976. Huey Long comes to mind, but that's a shot in the dark. Maybe looking at "long" as a generic word will help. Foot-long? They didn't have Subway Sandwich shops then, so I'm not sure if that was a common phrase. I'll stick with Huey and accept my loss today.) The contestant looks discouraged and disheartened. I don't blame her. There are some super-easy questions, and then there's this one. The camera cuts to Mr. H/H and he's staring pensively into the void. He turns toward Della and scratches his head. Back to the contestant who seems to have either thought of an answer or simply accepted the fact that she's not going to win $5,000 today. Richard finishes writing and files his card. The champion says "The only thing I can think of is 'sing-along'." She definitely gets points for creativity. It's definitely a valid answer and I can't criticize it because my answers were pretty lame. It seems like an unlikely match, but I wouldn't rule it out. Now I can't wait to see what Richard wrote... Gene suggests my answer "Huey." --- All eyes on Richard: he wrote "So." --- Today's was a lousy H/H question. No match today. (And Richard slips back below Brett on the leader board for the dozenth or so time. Those two have been practically joined at the hip as far as their success rates at the H/H match, not unlike Charles, Fannie, and Betty who tend to cluster together around 50%) Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (13 wins in 26 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.3% (26 wins in 63 attempts). Richard - 41.2% (199 wins in 483 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 799, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a big fan, but I have watched some rodeo in my time, and I don't believe that rodeo cowboys wear spurs. They don't wear them in horse racing either, although they might have at one time, I suppose. But that's obviously the answer the writers were looking for, and she did well with it. Good thing Betty White wasn't there.
