Loving the content Matt! No one is creating this type of content about learning plans and bidding jobs like you do. Your building content is educational and entertaining, but this behind the scenes/administrative work is invaluable. Thanks again!

Hugely helpful Matt! Thank you so very much! I've been thinking about how to break through the ceiling of being an installer after 8 years as an electrician. Your video format of showing how you do things is absolutely the most helpful and informative I've been able to find on all things rough construction. Watching how someone does something without all the stories and anecdotes that come with a grey beard and a beer belly is a great change of pace for me 😅 you're helping to get me excited about my first custom home build.

On the bat calculation, I simply multiply sheets by 3 (rather than multiply 12 and divide by 4) You arrive at the same answer, but save a step. In essence, use fractions or percentages in place of a 2-step multiply & divide method. It’s all about saving steps, even the small ones-it’s a mindset, right my friend? Keep up the good work brother!

This industry is full of things passed on by others, that's one of my favorite things about working construction. Sheets x 3 makes it way easy, haven't seen or done that before, will definitely give it a shot next time around!

@@MattBangsWood yes sir, I’ve learned a lot from watching your videos! Funny story: first video I ever watched was your ‘board/bat install tips” couple years back. Very next day, we’re doing Hardie vertical install on a 5/12 gable end of a large apartment building. I remembered that 5/12 x 48 =20” drop in height every 4’...so I’m cutting on the ground and ask my new guy up on the lift, (who had done quite well first couple weeks) “what’s the height measure on that first one?” He yells, 86” dead nuts!” I yell back, “ You sure?”...he double checks and nods. Then I proceed to cut everything left & right side pitch @ 86, 66, 46, 26 & 6 He hangs the first and yells back, “hey boss this ones a couple inches short, sorry I meant 88”...👌🤦🏻‍♂️ We cleaned up and went home for the day lol
@erickaufman4674
@erickaufman4674 3 жыл бұрын
@@MattBangsWood just remember to add 2 more for each of your prefab corners in the rare occasion your job calls for using same dimensions for bats and corners (we just did one with cedar all 1x4s- corners & bats 24 o/c bats)...Similar method when figuring drywall & 2x4s to frame interior walls as well. Figure the total linear feet, divide by 4, there’s your sheets. Then take sheets x3, add 2 for each corner. Multiply by 1.1 to account for top and bottom plate. You’ll never come out light, even with a door here and there...

Great video and informative. Does the program take into consideration the studs needed for wall bracing and blocking or is this done separately from the typical wall stud takeoff? Thanks and looking forward to more of your videos.
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 3 жыл бұрын
1.1x takes care of all your studs. Bracing is calc'd out personally, or could be marked out using the 'count items' tool. 8'/9' walls = 12' braces. 1 per wall. For blocking, if we're blocking the way we normally do, we'll add a "third top plate" all around the building. Gives us enough for blocks.

Thanks for that information Matt. With reference to roof sheathing and roof SF, what if you have hips and valleys? Will the SF be the same when you multiply by the slope? Or is there a different factor? I'm referencing the "Flat Area Factor" and the other one for a roof with Hips and Valleys.
