In Florida my full side glass raised inside temperature 30°F with or with out AC same temperature increase. With 45k BTU ac still in mid 90s INSIDE. Had to seal off my glass to stop the unsurvivable heat. With out AC over 117F. I recommend against windows in tropical locations. Other places windows are good.

More windows typically means less insulation capability, less privacy, and less storage options/capacity on the walls. Yes, it provides more natural light, but everything in a van is a trade off and not necessarily “better”. One could argue a skylight provides more natural light for the space it requires, but those that think more solar is “better” would not agree. Still a helpful video for those that will install themselves.
@MathersOnTheMap2 жыл бұрын
All good points Jeff! I totally agree, everyone has their own why. We definitely agree with the solar over a skylight folks as well! For us, the reduced storage is going to be the biggest loss with the additional windows. We can use insulated window covers for privacy (and some insulation) and our heating/ cooling solution should be more than sufficient to suffice.
@jeffsteinmetz71882 жыл бұрын
@@MathersOnTheMap I think my primary point is in such a small space everything is a trade off. Second, custome vans builds are just that custome. The are for the specific user needs and wants. Your needs and wants are unique to you as is your van build. 😀

I'm pro windows in vans. I agree the point is to be outside and if you are worried about privacy just add curtains or window covers. You can also insulate the window covers to help with heat/cold loss.

Y'all are making quick progress! It took me FOREVER to put in my six windows! I hope I could do it faster now with the experience but hopefully will never have to again. I also opt for more light in my van. I think good window covers will help mitigate the lack of insulation in those spaces. Now I have to try some of those Dots donuts!

It’s interesting how we all have different experiences. On my second build I got rid of most of my windows. Too much heat gain in the summer the AC isn’t like the oversized heat systems. It’s impossible to keep up in the daytime. Too many covers to buy,too many covers to install and to store.the big windows do look great though. My arctic tern windows are blah.
@MathersOnTheMap2 жыл бұрын
That’s very interesting, I would assume from a cooling perspective open windows would be better, that wasn’t the case for you???

@@MathersOnTheMap with the fan running even a small window let’s in a lot of air but I can’t say I’ve ever really been in the van on a hot sunny day to hang out. I have the doors screened I could always open the doors. I’m more thinking the air conditioning just can’t keep up with all that glass and my system is 18,000 btu. I also have a fixed bed so I’m not sitting at a table wanting to look out the window. I think it’s just about how everyone uses a van differently.

The awning windows look amazing. I like the open-air look and feeling of your van. It looks a lot better than my 2 portholes and bunk house windows and a 24x24 boat hatch. I went with minimal windows and maximum solar to run the mini split ac/heat pump. Everything is a trade-off. I do wish I had included two more windows in the seating area. It's good to see more of Taylor on this build, keeping you straight 😁
