I’m so glad that “All You Wanna Do” made him so uncomfortable because the opening is literally describing her being groomed as a 13 year old by one man, assaulted later on by another (gets what he wants and be won’t take no), realizing from another man she’s viewed as an object, and by the last one knowing that’s all she’ll only ever be seen as that for all her life and most of history.

Has he seen it live since this video? Because the liver version ends dramatically from the cast recording! Howard Ho did a great video on breaking it down, but where as the cast recording has this sort of pristine conclusion like a traditional pop song, in the live version K completely breaks down at the end and erratically sing-screams "Cause all you wanna do is" makes the kissing now, but instead of a satisfying release of breath, she makes a startling gasp as if to signify the last breath she took.

Oh, definitely I saw six on Broadway, and after the song there was a huge silence in the room for a good couple of seconds the audience didn’t know what to do with themselves, or how to clap after what they just took and it was a lot to take in, but like Despite how emotional it was, it was also super powerful and the songs just generally good! I love how we get to dive deep in and told us what it was like for the queens, and what it was like with Henry and all the different trials and tribulations they went through, but at the end of the show, at least still came up and empowered each other and lifted them up instead of tearing each other down.

Fun fact - they sampled green sleeves because the original poem the lyrics come from was said to have been written by Henry the 8th to Anne Boleyn! Although it’s nowadays regarded as a myth. So if you want historical context on Katherine Howard, the “All you wanna do” song, here it is: So Katherine was executed for an affair she was having with a member of Henry VIII’s court, Thomas Culpeper. She was put on trial and investigated, which is when it was discovered that she’d had sex with two other men before her marriage to Henry, which was Henry Mannox and Francis Dereham. Deeeham and Culpeper were both executed with Katherine. There’s a lot of debate on what exactly happened in Katherine’s relationship with these men, because Katherine was labeled as a whore and temptress, much in the way Anne Boleyn was, after her death by Henry and his court. It is believed that at the very least she was groomed and molested by Dereham, and there’s a decent possibility Culpeper assaulted Katherine, considering the fact that he bragged about seducing Katherine in his letters and he had a history of assaulting women. Katherine was as young as 17 when she was killed, and she met Henry when she was as young as 15 while Henry was 49. All you want to do goes into that, with Katherine describing how she was groomed and molested by these men, from a very young age, before being killed for “allowing it to happpen”. It’s a very sad song, and yes, a bop

The queens in the musical actually have their songs (and outfits) based off of pop divas. For Get down, Anna of Cleves is inspired by Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. For All You Wanna Do, Katherine Howard, is based off of Britney Spears and her clothing design is based off of Ariana Grande. For Don't Lose Ur Head, Anne Boleyn, is based off of Avril Lavigne. I think it's cool as you can really see the influence and the balance between historical leader queens and our modern day entertainment queens. All being pretty badass. Other Queens: Catherine of Aragon - Beyonce Jane Seymour - Adele, I think Sia too Catherine Parr - Alicia Keys
@jamiehood8502 жыл бұрын
Boleyn is mainly based on Lily Allen. Christina's voice in the original sounds almost exactly like Lily's. Aragon is also has latin pop and salsa elements, so J-Lo and Shakira are also inspirations. Parr is also partially based on another well-known British singer, Emeli Sande.

Fun fact: Katherine Howard, the character that sang All You Wanna Do is actually the youngest queen that ever married Henry the 8th, she was 19 when she was beheaded. Another fun fact: Anne Boelyn in history was said to be beheaded because she had an affair, when she really was beheaded because she didn’t have a son. Henry’s entire intention was to have a son, but both his first two wives couldn’t fulfill that. Actually in Ex Wives Jane says that she was the favorited wife, because she did have a son but a few days later she died due to birth complications.

The reason the "six wives" sounds so strange is because it's using the notes of Greensleeves, even though they don't really fit into the song, showing how their relationship to Henry (which is represented by Greensleeves throughout the show) doesn't fit into their lives. However, in the end, they sing an altered version of Greensleeves that does fit the song, showing how their lives are better without him and they reclaimed their story.

I have a soft spot for HoS because it was the one musical theatre piece my vocal coach really believed in me for. She knew I liked musical theatre and I think she could tell that I was growing bored at lessons, so she asked me to give her a list of musicals that I liked. Heart of Stone was the song she selected out of the options. I worked my ass off for some of those notes and rhythms. It's a song I didn't really view as difficult, but the experience of getting it down to the best of my ability really showed me the work and commitment it takes to learn these songs.

Heart of Stone is literally my guilty pleasure song. I love the musical for its love-letter-ness to the queens and I’m aware Jane’s character has been criticized for not getting much into who she was outside of a loving wife. I’m aware of that but I’m sorry it’s just so gut-wrenching. The character of Jane in the musical is so tragic, with the idea of a woman who continued loving and never let her spirit break despite her “true love” very clearly using her. It just… it never fails to make me cry. Especially live.

I think that’s partly because the soundtrack has 1. "Get Down" sounds really much better on stage, especially the last part. You definitely should check out Broadway cast, I think they may relies recording soon, but I may be wrong.

No Way and Haus of Holbein are my two favorites but each song is so GOOD and as some who saw it live(not with the original cast) it was really good and entertaining!

Seeing "All ya wanna do" like the performance (the version you heard was the amazing Aimee Atkinson, you're listening to the West End version), is so heartbreaking, if you see the video of it, it tells the truth of the revolting story and is so sad and well done 😭
@guilhermefreire83522 жыл бұрын
you gotta watch "All you wanna do" in the performance of the show itself, the amount of emotion she conveys to it is phenomenal

So many here mentioned Sam, & some said Andrea, I'd honestly recommend listening to the entire Broadway version. BUT even if you don't, you absolutely *have* to hear Brittany Mack's version of Get Down. It hits , and it's in my top 3 favorite songs in the show purely because of her. 💜💜💜💜💜💜

You should really listen to the stage version of these songs. Especially All You Wanna Do. There's so much emotion that's left out in the studio recordings it's kinda sad

Those are literally my three favorite songs of the album: Get down, All you want do, and don’t lose your head; I feel blessed to get them all in one.

I seen this show when it came to Belfast. I didn't think I cried so much at a show, I fan girl when I saw the Queens go on stage. It was how I reacted whenever I saw One Direction or Jonas Brothers. That level of excitement because I've been listening to this soundtrack all over lockdown. But the soundtrack hits different now after seeing them live. Horrible Histories was from Henry's pov, we never got to see his wives pov until this show. I felt so bad for those poor girls. To think they all fell in love with him and they thought they were going somewhere. He sleeps around but whenever they do it or fall for someone who isn't the king, they get beheaded.

In the live show during All You Wanna Do’s last courus the actor will like cry. It makes it so sad. And also in the live show right before the last courus of Dont Lose Your Head, the actor will stop the music and scream “OH MY GOD GUYS HE ACTUALLY WANTS TO CHOP MY HEAD OFF?!?!? *long pause* I mean…..i guess he just really liked my head” I saw six last night lmao

Bruh you HAVE to do a part 2! You think those are good? Wait until you listen to the rest and come across "heart of stone" and "I don't need your love". Chefs kiss. Trust me. Worth it. You need to do a part 2

All you want to do is actually a very dark song, and there's another version of it that really tugs at the heartstrings at the end vers/chorus that you should really give a listen to, even for something other than a video.

All You Wanna Do is my fav song from Six. I love his reaction because that is exactly how you should feel when listening to it. It’s gross and sad what she went through, but the song is SO CATCHY!! Luv this vid btw!

I would definitely recommend doing a second part and checking out the other songs. Heart of Stone, particularly, is stunning, and Natalie May Paris's whistle notes make me shiver every time. No Way is also a complete bop and Renée Lamb is a fucking powerhouse. I Don't Need Your Love and Six are really good conclusions, and Izuka Hoyle brings a really beautiful soulful sound to her song.

I really hope you listen to all the songs because “Heart of stone” made me cry the first time I listened and the vocals pop off. Also “House of Hollben” is just so funny 😂

FYI just to let you know the original cast o f six is performing in London for 2 days and Aimme who is heard on all i wanna do is reprising the role of Katherine Howard so if you wanting to see it done live i would fully suggest checking that out. Also the broadway version with Sam Pauly is acc killer too!

I can’t believe I’m seeing this a whole year later. I love the soundtrack for this musical. I was lucky enough to see this live pretty recently. It was last October for my friends birthday. And we had like the high up seats. So while you couldn’t see many details, you could see EVERYTHING. And it was amazing, great show. Edit: if you get the chance to see it live 10/10 recommend. And honestly, if possible, get close up seats, you’d probably enjoy it better up close. In the theater in my state, there’s three levels, we were on the third level. Like we took an elevator to get there bc we didn’t know where the stairs were. The stairs would go from the balcony seats up, but we took an elevator to go down to our row. I was gonna say that the music was played live at six, whereas other musicals weren’t…then I realized that the other musicals I’ve seen, they were just in the orchestra pit, because six has six actresses, there’s room on stage for their musicians to be on stage because it’s like 3 other people…don’t come at me pls.

You should check out Sam Pauly singing this...she was part of the Broadway cast and legit made me cry with the emotion she brought to the song

Everyone here is recommending Sam Pauly, and I will too. Her performance always drives me to tears. I don't think there is a legal recording, but you should be able to find her cover on her KZbin channel (thou it's not as powerful as on stage).

The songs you listened to were recorded by the west end london cast. The broadway new york cast have there own versions that are recorded. Some of the words have changed b/c the common slang terms used are different in the USA vs UK.

almost everyone has said it but i’m gonna say it again you should watch Samantha Pauly’s All You Wanna Do. ON ANOTHER NOTE, Brittany Mack’s Get Down IS SO SO SO GOOD. Like its impossible not to get hyped at her performance. I recommend watching her version too 😌

There are so many tiktok sounds coming from musicals oh my god like just from the top of my head the "I'll think about it maybe XO baby" and "No one wants a waist over (gasp) nine inches" from Six, "dang dang diggiti dang-di-dang" from Heathers, "for the record this is self destructive - for the record I am aware of that" and "I see my parents hearing the news - your only daughter drowned today - I thought about what they might say" from 36 Questions, The entirety of Say My Name from Beetlejuice and many more and it's so wild to me how majority of people have no idea these are from musicals lmao
@irenekat2 жыл бұрын
As much as I like the official recorded version of SIX, the live version is just so much more real? I don't know how to describe it but it just hits different, especially "All you wanna do" Either way I'm in love with this musical and I can't stop listening to it :D

One of the interesting touches they did with each queen was modelled their look and sound after some modern ladies in pop: Beyonce, Lily Allen, Adelle, Rihana (I think?), Ariana Grande and Alicia Keys. I love hearing the soul in number 6 for that reason.

You should still do a part 2 with the 3 other queens even if their songs arent as popular (plus the last song is such a good song to end with)

Obviously no hate to the original cast who made these recordings, after all, they are what brought this musical to my life which I can’t get out of my head, but listen to the Broadway versions of All You Wanna Do (Samantha Pauly) and Don’t Lose Your Head (Andrea Macasaet) because personally they have my favorite versions of their songs. But without the original cast, this wouldn’t be one of my top 5 favorite musicals, so no hate to them either ❤️🎶💜

I'm a little surprised you didn't do a reaction to "No Way" from this soundtrack. It has probably the most powerful vocals of the whole musical, so I think it'd be right up your alley. Really a missed opportunity there.

you HAVE to watch the live versions of these, especially for All You Wanna Do because the guttural performance of it just isn’t done justice in the recording. the Samantha Pauly version is highly regarded

Like with Kathrine Howard's story it really is super dark and people in history messed her up so much when she was just a kid and I love how All You wanna Do plays with that and shows people the darkness even though it's really poppy and watching people as they figure out it's not a happy song is really interesresting.
@victoriastrong42058 ай бұрын
The studio recording of “All You Wanna Do” absolutely does not capture her despair in the last chorus. In the live show, she is sobbing while she sings. It’s really raw and emotional, and this recording really falls short with that. Definitely listen to the live Broadway opening night recording.

You absolutely NEED to hear Brittany Mack and Samantha Pauly’s versions of “Get Down” and “All you Wanna do” because… wow- Brittany’s “Get Down” is just amazing, and she hits such a high note it’s… ❤️ And Samantha’s “All you Wanna do” is so much more emotional and genuinely fits the theme of the song
