A few further points, Basheer is the only writer in Malayalam whose books still sell, compared to his contemporaries. One reason is that he is still relevant. He is relevant because he didn't just see the light of his times, but it's shadows as well Here is exploring the idea of independence itself. Not just a nation's independence but of man. Like Calvino or Márquez the personal, the political, the social is all mixed in. Independence is the ability to choose. But within that choice is loss. When Basheer makes that choice, he loses maybe what was most important to him. So is freedom outside or inside the jail Another layer is the question of what love is? In his books, he always rejected a romanticized version. He seems to go further here. There is betrayal here, but not of malice. Was there love, or was it all an illusion? Basheer always goes to the extreme of an experience without any drama. And there we can see that experience is a contradictory within itself. The use of the dead stick as a means of communication is a symbolic act. It is a dead object creating a new blossoming of love. Basheer's ability to create dreams cape between life, dream and society is unparalleled. It is such a shame that he never got the international recognition he deserved in life

Mammooty came first in cinema. Mohanlal is junior to him. And they did 55 films together 💓no other superstars in any language did that. And mammooty also acted as mohanlal's father in a movie called "padayottam". It was an adaptation of count of monte christo. They were supporting actors in that movie.mohanlal is 9 years younger than mammooty. Every time in any film industry's in india especially south, have two actors, one might be a superstar and other probably a actor. But in malayalam they both are world class actors and also a star. Well, its just malayalam🤷‍♂️💓.

Such poetic film from writing, acting, directing and cinematography which from beginning created the oppressive, darkness of endless days with the long walk around dark prison wall to the entrance - a blood red coloured door, prisoners who committed murder wearing red caps, and most especially the silent moments. I am a Mohanlal fan but also like Mammotty for his acting and the only actor (maybe Rajni) in India who would have done different roles from a common man to a minister of the country . Mohanlal wouldn’t have done as many different characters as what Mammotty would have done .They both came at the same time in Film industry and we love them as the legends of Malayalam Film Industry.
