Maybe the movie didn't do well at first because the kids that needed to see it were stuck in their own Matilda scenereos at home. It does well now because people relate to being lied to and gaslit all the time and we like to imagine we have her power in those situations.

Matilda came out a year before I was born (I was born in 1997) and that was honestly one of my favorite movies growing up. I used to have two VHR versions because I watched the first one so much that it was failing apart and it was the movie that inspired me to take up reading and writing.

Just one more reason to love Danny DeVito! Had no idea her mom had cancer during filming, glad they could ease her pain as a child gong through that.

I love this movie because it was about a little girl who was abused but through her strength and perseverance she found happiness. There's a huge stigma against children who are abused, some people can't face the fact some biological parents aren't real parents to their children because the truth can be ugly. But true family and parents is about love, not blood. This movie is so special to people like us because it makes us feel seen. It gives us much needed hope. I love this movie.

Danny was such a wonderful guy he even helped with her mom when she was sick. And even got her to see the tape of the movie. Well it’s in the behind the scenes and how he made the movie and even talks about her mom and said he even helped.

I learned English thanks to Matilda. I watched it so many times that I memorized the whole script and would just speak all the lines with the characters xD I watched it again a couple of weeks ago after not seeing it for almost 20 years and I could still remember everything haha

The fact that Danny and Rhea took care of Mara while her mother was in the hospital is incredible. I've loved Matilda from a young age. Ever since I saw it, it was one of my favourite movies. My sister and I would watch Matilda and Harriet The Spy over and over and over again as kids. I saw the Matilda musical recently (the Netflix version) and it's also really great albeit a different Matilda for sure. I love that it's a new spin on a beloved story - there wasn't a need to remake the original movie, and they stand as 2 separate films as far as I'm concerned despite being the same story. Mara Wilson will always be Matilda to me. It's really incredible that she was in this film because she really is the perfect Matilda and shares a lot of the same characteristics in real life as we saw on screen.

I love this movie. We used to call my sister Matilda when we were young because the way she would dress and her cute short Bob with bangs. She would watch this movie everyday and we would all join her. What I love about this actress is that she is not Hollywood weird. She looks so graceful and speaks so well. She is so smart.
