of all the chess commentators, you have the best balance of review/explanation and action, and your English is spare, clear, and sometimes playful. and I love to "pause the video" and search for "killer move." more than before I started watching your vids, after a bit of familiarity and practice, I even nail the best move fairly often, a great feeling for someone with little chess talent. thanks.

Was Petrosian singularly hard to beat? Let's see. Overall record, Petrosian: +691 -157 =1059 (64.0%) Overall record, Carlsen: +656 -265 =661 (62.4%) Granted you'd have to correct for strength of competition, but it's interesting that over the length of a 40 year career Petrosian lost far fewer games than Carlsen has lost already, and Carlsen is only 26 years old.

Extraordinary play by Kasparov. Boris Gelfand has also written about these positions, where white has a tiny edge in development to go along with his unrestricted, fianchettoed KB and is able at times to cook up a tasty soup and win. It's one reason players love the Queen's Catalan opening.

The bishop on c8 never came into play and was completely dominated by the white bishop. I think it was necessary to play Rb8 at some point or black should have saced his b pawn to generate counterplay along the b file and to activate his LSB which would also connect the rooks.

Kasparov is sadic in this this game that may represent the conflict between two generations ; Kasparov once commented on Petrosian saying that he had an exagerated sense of danger ,may be this made him less free and agressive, fortunately Kasparov did not torture or kill Petrosian in reality. Mato you tortured me with your comment ,i'll get you !

Mato, what would have happened if black moved Qf6 instead of resigning? This way the rook is still defended and no forced queen exchange is necessary. Seems like Petrosian is still in the game! (However I am no more than an average chess player, so I suggest this only out of curiosity haha.)

As a Russian, I love watching this because it's an example of the student surpassing the master. It's one Armenian Grandmaster replaces another Armenian Grandmaster and moving up. Petrossian, Kasparov, Aronian just 3 of the names of some of the greatest Armenian Grandmasters in a long list of Armenians who are good at chess. For a small nation they have A LOT of great chess players. What do you expect from the ONLY nation in the world that has made chess a required and core part of the school curriculum for ALL students. I hope to visit it again this summer! It's such a beautiful country but make sure you know Russian because other than the tourist parts of the capital most people do not speak English well though can understand it. Still its amazing place for chess fans, the whole nation, every age group, men women they all play chess and Levon Aronian is like the Cristiano Ronaldo of Armenia. It's clean, cheap, safe and 99% Armenian so they are REALLY friendly. Tells you a lot about what they value..... As my Armenian friends say: "I'd rather have a hero with a full mind and a not attractive body, than a hero with an attractive body with an empty mind". We Americans and Europeans can learn from them. Instead of glamorizing people on reality tv or talentless prostitutes like Madonna who do nothing but degrade our cultures and provide or give nothing back to the community, we should be glamorizing and idolizing people who are truly national heroes and have intelligence not simply money or Fame.
@Primitive_Code
@Primitive_Code 6 жыл бұрын
Kasparov is only part Armenian lol most people don't even know that about him. You're right about Armenia adding chess to education but the rest are your opinion. Are you saying that Armenians aren't that attractive? They're people just like everyone else. Their culture and mindset is a little different than Europe or US, doesn't mean they have to try extra hard to make up for lack of good looks. Personally, I'd choose a country like Ukraine or Belarus, they value chess fortunate for their looks.

Why is it so important whether Kasparov was right- or lefthanded? Isn´t it just some odd mythology created by his supporters? By the way is it possible that we could have Mr. Mato create some opening lectures sometime? I´d like to have the Nesjmetdinov-gambit in the Siestavariation of the Ruy Lopez explained...

It is said that the right side of the body(right hand) is controlled by the left side of the brain (logical brain). On the other hand,the left hand is controlled by the right side of the brain (creativity) Must artists, such as DaVinci and MichelAngelo were left handed.

@d3sibeast After Ng4 there isn't a safe place to put the queen. If the queen travels up to g7 or h8, Rxd8+ is winning the queen and the game easily. If the queen travels downward instead it is also essentially hanging itself and giving up the game just as easily to white.

How could Kasparov castle even after he was checked by black bishop from b4 on 3rd move & again on 5th move Kasparovs King was checked ?Can we still castle after being checked?Please enlighten me.
@happyjay
@happyjay 8 жыл бұрын
+sat ash Once you become Grand Master, you are entitled to castle even after check. that is a joke. I am searching for guru to enlighten my in spirituality, yoga etc. But I am happy to enlighten you on the way. Check does NOT disqualify the king from castling(but just prevents temporarily). Only moving the king earlier disqualifies. i.e. King cannot castle if he moved already. Other situations prevent king from temporarily castliing are being on check, or the castling squares are in attack of opponents army.

I'd have one question. Is it true, that Kasparov was left-handed? In the videos where he is shown moving his pieces he seems to be moving the pieces with right hand as well as writing down his moves with right hand but there are still people claiming that he was left-handed? So what do you think is the truth? Thank you :)
