The Power of the Gospel - What I love about this video is Matt's heart clearly displayed through this message. As I watched and listened to this message I saw two aspects of the power of the Gospel. 1. The faithfulness of Matt to unapologetically carry the truth of the Gospel to the people of Elevation Church. BUT maybe even more challenging to me was 2. Seeing the Gospel change Matt's heart as he preached the message. From holy anger to loving shepherd all in one message! Humbled! Great job!

My concern is that this church sounds like the audience of a comedy sitcom. Matt is pouring out his heart about the holiness of God and the seriousness of our misperception of Gods character and they are clapping and laughing at all the wrong times. It seems like Matt was very uncomfortable on this stage but a lot of times that's exactly where pastors need to be. I hope I'm making a wrong assessment of this church but if not I pray their perception of God grows in reverence.

No, not only was Pastor Chandler not ever asked to come back but this sermon was scrubbed from Elevation’s site. I would like to think it was because Pastor Furtick knew he was dishonoring the Lord by not praying while Pastor Chandler but I know now that is not the reason. This perverse but persuasive “ Word of Faith” theology is unfortunately the false gospel Pastor Furtick preaches despite his thorough understanding of the Bible. I believe some people are missing the point behind this message. Matt is preaching against the ideology that God’s soul purpose in life is to serve us or to ONLY bless us. Think about it. Furtick only preaches on how God can bless us, or how we can be blessed by God. I haven’t listened to all of Steve’s sermons to be fair however, a majority of his messages are the same theme of receiving a blessing. Matt is also against preachers who just preaches the cross was only for us and ends there. Hes preaching against the ideology that we as Americans especially struggle with that we are the center of Gods universe. No God created us to worship Him. He is God, He is Creator, He is Holy, we are NOT! Yes God pursues us but thats because we are incapable of pursuing after Him. Jesus came to seek and save those who are lost (Luke 19:10). Read the old testament. Its filled with Gods jealousy over Israel. He desired to be Israels only God. Yet Israel continuously, time after time sought after pagan gods. Now if God was for man, he would of just let them go and worship their gods because thats what made them happy. No! God is jealous and desires to be the only God that we worship!!! Thats what Matt Chandler is saying here. A lot of the gospel messages that we hear today are about what God does for us and not what about what we do for God! We go to church to expect a blessing not to give a blessing or be a blessing. Matt isnt saying we cant receive blessings. In fact, we already received the greatest blessing of Christ’s salvation on the cross. However, thats not enough for us! We want God to do everything for us! Thats not how God designed the church. He wants us to long after Him and desire Him with our hearts. He has angels singing around His throne day and night “Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty” yet He does desire us to sing that with our hearts because He gave us the free-will to choose. He is a good God who deserves our praise and HONOR! That is the heart of Matt’s message. To get us to stop thinking inwardly and to make us understand God seeks after us so that we worship and adore Him. Not the other way around.

Honestly, this talk grinds on me and I see why they were unsure about posting it. This guy is just yelling at a bunch of people he doesn’t know and accusing them of being fake and all about themselves. “Lifting your hands up when you’re supposed to” could it possibly be that I’m just worshipping Jesus? Could it be that I’m fully aware how much I fall short and how it’s not about me? Apparently not.
@vile28186 жыл бұрын
You may be fully aware, and you may be worshipping Jesus rightly, however there is a group of people that don't. Matt was preaching to them. There are people that are self-centered when they don't even know it. They are prideful, yet to themselves and others, they seem humble. They appear to love others, but they do it so they feel good about themselves. All may be good on outward appearances, but there is always something going on deeper than most of us realize. At the core of a faithful church-goer can be a prideful, selfish, self-centered fool. I am not judging anyone for being a fool, because everyone is lost until God comes in. I have been that fool. I understand that what Matt is doing is not judging people for being superficial, he is trying to help them understand what real faith in God is about.

You (finally) surmised the correct interpretation of the word "dead" in the context I was using, as it's apparent that you aren't physically dead. And it's good that you give to charity. It won't rescue you from the wrath of God, but it's what might be categorized as a "bad-good work", that is, something that a wicked person (as God categorizes wickedness) does which might lessen the level of punishment he receives in Hell, though it will not gain him Heaven. Voluntary giving is not criminal.

If your joy is not dependent on your circumstances but is the joy within, why not choose for your happiness to be dependent on your joy? That way you can be happy all the time, even when circumstances aren't so good. Some Christians can have their "deep joy" so deep that they can't even find it.

I may be arguing semantics, but joy shouldn't come from within, but from God. If you meant from the Holy Spirit within us, then I would agree, but joy should be found in God who never changes.

1 Corinthians 5 describes and instance where we are called to judge people within the church. Revelation 2, speaking to the church of Ephesus, it says that they have tested those who call themselves apostles and proved them to be false. We need to be careful. We're called to test those who claim His name. I don't care if we look like "haters." The world needs truth more than a feel-good, seeker-friendly, and prosperity driven moral therapeutic deistic version of "Christianity."

I think as Christ followers, regardless of what church u attend, we should all censor what we say, obviously in regards to others, but particularly church leaders. It doesn't matter if you go to The Village, Elevation Church, Lakewood Church or whatever, when we all condemn one another, it poorly reflects the body of Christ. Am i saying pastors shouldn't be held accountable for what they preach? No. However, the world is watching. And honestly we look more like haters than anything at times.

You need to read the text again, if that's how you interpret it. Paul said that the thorn was GIVEN to him to keep him from exalting himself. 2 Co 12:7 - Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, FOR THIS REASON, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me-to keep me from exalting myself! Sanctification is God's Sovereignty working in a believer's life to conform them to the image of Christ.

Could you please explain how this is not biblical. Scripture shows numerous examples of God allowing men to be broken so that through their struggle we can see how God's grace and mercy abound and bring forth HIS glory. If this is not true then what does this scripture mean: You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

The church is laughing hysterically at things that just aren't funny. Matt is trying to give a message that should rattle us, but the church is just laughing!

@Natalie Bishop Just watched this video and first heard about Matt through a comment on s Furtick video exposing Furticks Heresy . The comment was(paraphrase) "evelation never invited Matt Chandler back again did they"/... And now i know why!.. Notice Furtick not even clapping... God spoke through Chandler and to the assembly.And the crowd recognised him not!

@Natalie Bishop I'll take a look at those links..thankyou!" "Jesus broke the law for love" was a major red flag concerning Furtick...heretical to the core! I'll check out the James Duncan situation tomorrow and get back to you !

@Natalie Bishop Wow,wow & WOW!¬. What a reply :) That flowed like a cooling stream....Thats such an insightful assessment of Furtick ive witnessed to date! All praise be to God! I had no idea you knew him...(i live in the UK) but here in Bedford (Bedfordshire)there is the Kings Arms church which i attended from late Aug to last week..and the tone....the music; actions and sheer lack of scripture and experiential diatribe was en masse through the crowd(yeah!--woop!-woahhhh" (Being English may play a part in reserved behaviour ;) but ive noticed(and im late in the game-so its kind of new to me though ive kept an eye on matters over the years) this new wave of hipster churches and alternative method of worship. Ive even recently(this last week)had a major debate with the Pastor Steve Wilson at kings arms..regarding Furticks "jesus broke the law for love" sermon...And regrettably,as i suspected it would be.The pastors reply was sheer mental gymnastics,defending Furtick and bolstering the heresy! "oh,in a way..he is right....the pharisee' had the oral torah and taught laws of men -and jesus broke this" paraphrase...Yet!-as the pastor knew...F,was addressing THE law of God not man....and ,if youve seen the sermon youll know the rest. F used a parable of a lady rushing to the hospital with her child because it had fell 30ft from the monkey bars...and to because of love she broken the speed limits" need i say more! :/ So....your reply is sheer music to my ears...ears wanting and seeking a clear appraisal on this guy(F) and youve done it for me!.. its a solid expos'e(what you typed) on his ministry. I was struggling with small doubts whether i had gotten his number quite right...but now i know i have. I do pray for him...i mean no conceit...as i was as ignorant as the day is long...and am a baby in the faith at present..so to find such wonderful insight and to hear Matts sermon here..has grounded me in such a beautiful way! I know to some extent that F had a band,plays guitar etc....and i know the assembly(church) must be separated from the world..but i sense its crept in along with Furtick.. Many many thanks for your fantastic reply!
