Great video. Just curious where you got the overall assist stats from in the Keane vs Vieira section because Keane's career at Forest and even early United was less documented than modern record keeping/opta records. I read that Keane got 16 assists in all comps in his first season at United and 8 goals but started to play a deeper role after that and never reached those numbers for assists again. I kinda wonder how many assists he got as an attacking midfielder for Forest.

I'm 44 years old. I saw this man, week in week out, dominating the midfield. I remember him being incredible on the ball. Yet, no pundits ever talk about this. They talk about Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Vieira, Yaya, KDB, etc. As being elite ballers and they were. However, to omit Keane from these discussions is criminal. He wasn't only a fearless, ferocious, uncompromising leader. That boy could play.
@damiena1478Ай бұрын
It makes sense, he wasn't the showman of the squad. When Scholes, Beckham and Giggs were doing sexy stuff every game, he was there, smashing the basics and staying underrated.
@-MacCloud-Ай бұрын
@@damiena1478 That's the issue, you don't have to do anything sexy to be the most effective and dominant attacking midfielder in the world. Why drift wide and do a sexy curling pass when you can just beat the opposite number with a simple touch and smash a hard flat pass precisely in front of Dwight Yorke who then puts Cole through for a sitter. All that drifting and curling is foolish if you can do what Keane could.

They don’t make em like him anymore. So gifted technically, yet he was always the hardest working player in the team. Was also the fittest player in the team. So I guess I can’t blame people for thinking about him just as a leader, especially those who saw him in his latter years. But then again, apparently when he joined Celtic Real Madrid wanted him. His performance v Juve in '99 was a masterclass - I was fortunate enough to watch United win the CL in the Nou Camp and I'll never forget the fans calling for Keane (and Scholes) to take their turns lifting the trophy, the players formed a tunnel for them and the cheer from the crowd was tremendous. The culture of demanding the highest standards week in week out that he helped firmly establish in the dressing room can never be underestimated. He was a perfect right hand man for Fergie. In both cases it's because of the kids who haven't watched football at the time and just see everything through the glasses of the modern tiki taka possession based football and have a totally distorded view that Keane was just a tough guy who couldn't play while Scholes bossed the game. I fell in love with Man Utd in the mid-90s as a kid, loving that the team gave so many chances to young / academy players. But Keane's passion and brilliance in the engine room with Scholes was whaat made me obsessed with the team. Nice to see Keano get recognition, especially from his peers who know best.

I’ve been saying a lot of what’s in this video about Keane for years! He was unreal and yet is one of the most maligned midfielders to date! Had he been born British there would be a statue of him outside Wembley! Turin 1999 does not get spoken about enough

The likes of seeing me and Keane dominate the midfield - that era is gone and will never return sadly. 😢❤

REALLY well made video , you brought the receipts . One thing you need to take into consideration is Keane just being on the pitch just MAKES players play better.

I will never forget him giving that entire Juve team the business. Zidane and all his mates. Roy was genuinely world class. He would have had better numbers too if he hadn't have taken the responsibility of the deeper role.

Due to my age (33) I got into United when I was a young 11-12 yr old kid, so all I got to see was barely a season or two of Keane play in Red … but wow man, I remember feeling like we could never lose whenever he was on the ball. He was incredible and inspiring, and one of the best midfielders ever. That’s our CAPTAIN ❤️

Players knew Roy would do anything for the team. He controlled the centre of the pitch which allowed others to showcase their flair and abilities and demanded professionalism on and off the pitch

Great breakdown. He had so many intangibles as well, and the accuracy of his passing and how he almost never gave the ball away was elite. People who say he couldn't play today are crazy.

As a fan watching Keane growing up. It's hard to describe that secure feeling seeing his name on the teamsheet. No other name since has given that feeling and reassurance.

I am Irish and a Liverpool fan. This video makes no sense to me because the premise is that people think Keane wasn’t this or that and yet as an Irish man we know how good Keane was. So this premise is nonsense and few believe it. The tragedy is that Keane didn’t play for Liverpool.

Very good piece, Keane and viera were the two greatest premiership midfielders of all time. They were so complete that when they were done teams never played with 2 in the middle again. They needed 3 to do the same job.

Keeno was a great player: skill, understanding, intelligence, fitness, athleticism, determination and dedication. He was almost Bryan Robson on angry pills.

Spot on! There’s a lot of people with his drive to succeed and wish for perfection. There’s a lot of people who had his quality with and without the ball. There’s a lot of players who had his physicality and stamina. There’s very few who put it all together the way he did.
