Great video. Just curious where you got the overall assist stats from in the Keane vs Vieira section because Keane's career at Forest and even early United was less documented than modern record keeping/opta records. I read that Keane got 16 assists in all comps in his first season at United and 8 goals but started to play a deeper role after that and never reached those numbers for assists again. I kinda wonder how many assists he got as an attacking midfielder for Forest.

I'm 44 years old. I saw this man, week in week out, dominating the midfield. I remember him being incredible on the ball. Yet, no pundits ever talk about this. They talk about Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Vieira, Yaya, KDB, etc. As being elite ballers and they were. However, to omit Keane from these discussions is criminal. He wasn't only a fearless, ferocious, uncompromising leader. That boy could play.

It makes sense, he wasn't the showman of the squad. When Scholes, Beckham and Giggs were doing sexy stuff every game, he was there, smashing the basics and staying underrated.
@-MacCloud-
@-MacCloud- Ай бұрын
@@damiena1478 That's the issue, you don't have to do anything sexy to be the most effective and dominant attacking midfielder in the world. Why drift wide and do a sexy curling pass when you can just beat the opposite number with a simple touch and smash a hard flat pass precisely in front of Dwight Yorke who then puts Cole through for a sitter. All that drifting and curling is foolish if you can do what Keane could.

They don’t make em like him anymore. So gifted technically, yet he was always the hardest working player in the team. Was also the fittest player in the team. So I guess I can’t blame people for thinking about him just as a leader, especially those who saw him in his latter years. But then again, apparently when he joined Celtic Real Madrid wanted him. To join the most star studded team of all time possibly, at least in that era. At 34 years old I think? That’s insane.

His performance v Juve in '99 was a masterclass - I was fortunate enough to watch United win the CL in the Nou Camp and I'll never forget the fans calling for Keane (and Scholes) to take their turns lifting the trophy, the players formed a tunnel for them and the cheer from the crowd was tremendous. The culture of demanding the highest standards week in week out that he helped firmly establish in the dressing room can never be underestimated. He was a perfect right hand man for Fergie. For me he's alongside Bryan Robson as my favourite ever Capt, this was a golden era to be a United fan. Love ya Keano!

@@rexbanner7611 when you talk about Scholes and Keane, I think the revisionism after their careers went in a separate way. Scholes got a bit overrated. He was never rated as highly during his career as he got after it. While Keane, who was respected and rated by literally everyone while he played started getting underrated and dismissed as an elite player after retitement. Why? In both cases it's because of the kids who haven't watched football at the time and just see everything through the glasses of the modern tiki taka possession based football and have a totally distorded view that Keane was just a tough guy who couldn't play while Scholes bossed the game. I thought Keane was more important than Scholes on the pitch while they played together. His passing was always good, his touch was safe, he was press resistant af, never lost the ball, could shoot, head, was actually more athletic than you think. IMO, best CM of all time. Given, Duff, Robbie Keane, the old guard of Quinn, Staunton etc, established PL players like Finnan, Harte, Holland, Kinsella, Carsely. We had a very good squad from top to bottom. He was important, of course, but it wasn't like he put us on his shoulders and carried us, or "almost single handedly dragged" us, like is suggested in the video.

Interesting. I honestly never thought it was in dispute that Keane was an amazing player and one of the best premiership midfielders. An integral part of the united team each season they won the league. He was like the new Brian Robson which was how he was dubbed at the time he was bought. I'll never forget his performance against Juventus in the 99 champions league semi final. He literally was an offensive midfielder but could defend too. That was always his original role with Ince being the more defensive midfielder. 'Keane!! A captains goal for Manchester United !!' Yes I think totally true re his punditry having a bit of caricature effect. Also probably how he didn't do well as a manager. A legend man UTD player no doubt. Yes definitely man utds best ever premier league captain. Great video

Idc about Rodri winning Ballon dor or not... but, I watched both... ... Roy is a better team leader. but Overall, Rodri a better footballer because he actually controls the tempo of the game which is big deal just like Busi at Barcelona. both underrated Rodri and Busi.. Rodri's biggest mistake is playing for City. he could've been a legend at Madrid like Casmiro.

@@zorashki Rodri is a good player, I can't deny that, but Keano is better, dependable, a leader, can get you back into a game, motivates, shows passion and love for the club, loyal to the team, says it how it is, Rodri can't do everything Roy can do, Rodri is really good though, could be one of the best ever if he makes smart transfers

Yeah, it's a dumb take that demonstrates that he never saw Keane play. Keane was always brave to take the ball off his defenders while under pressure and pass the ball forward into dangerous positions on the pitch.

Perfect video, thanks. Just look at how Chielini and Rossi revered him in recent videos on the overlap. Im am Irish man and for me, Keano is the great Irish player ever. An extremely rare player who was always available for a pass, NEVER lost the ball, and always made incisive passes forward. On the rare occassions he lost the ball, he would win it back within seconds, Pep style. A perennial winner, was he a little too aggressive at times, yes. But that what made him such a driving force of a leader. I would be interested to know how many MOTM awards he won, because at one point, i remember him winning MOTM every time he played. So glad to have been able to watch him in his pomp.

I fell in love with Man Utd in the mid-90s as a kid, loving that the team gave so many chances to young / academy players. But Keane's passion and brilliance in the engine room with Scholes was whaat made me obsessed with the team. Nice to see Keano get recognition, especially from his peers who know best.

Due to my age (33) I got into United when I was a young 11-12 yr old kid, so all I got to see was barely a season or two of Keane play in Red … but wow man, I remember feeling like we could never lose whenever he was on the ball. He was incredible and inspiring, and one of the best midfielders ever. That’s our CAPTAIN ❤️

I am Irish and a Liverpool fan. This video makes no sense to me because the premise is that people think Keane wasn’t this or that and yet as an Irish man we know how good Keane was. So this premise is nonsense and few believe it. The tragedy is that Keane didn’t play for Liverpool.
