This video never really had an ending. The correlation seems to be that because the play calls sucked and there weren't a lot of weapons in ATL last year that Matt Ryan won't be good with the Colts because he's one year older. The accuracy take is simply bad. It's just bad, man. He is literally one of the most accurate qbs in the history. I do understand how age works in the NFL but Matt Ryan does have more than enough arm for a couple good seasons in Indy's WC scheme. It's more taking shots in between what the defense gives you. There's no triple move, 7 step hitch drop, 60 yard bombs in this offense. It's timing and consistency and you know this. You could have looked back to the last time Ryan had a WC offensive coach in Shanahan and the numbers they put up that season (MVP? oh, that's right), how Reich is more clever than Smith at calling plays, and how it could re-awaken Matt for a late- career run since this Colts defense is lightyears better than the Falcons D was that season (especially adding Gilly and Ngokue). This video simply misses the mark and it's not just because I'm a Colts fan. Usually I leave your videos feeling like I spent 15 minutes with a guy who did his homework and had a nuanced, educated take, even if I didn't agree with all of them. Not this time. It's all peace. See you next week.

Agreed man. The O-line in Indy alone is enough reason to believe that a Q like Ryan will fare much better this year (despite being 37) than he did the previous few seasons with ATL. Plus, he's got Pittman, one of the best RBs in the game, and to your point, Reich.

Totally agree. The mediocre take was bad too. This is a team that had 7 pro-bowlers last year, lost non of them, added Stephon Gilmore, Yannick Ngakoue, and Matt Ryan. The leadership of the QB was the problem last year. That won't be an issue the next few years in Indy.

The colts are stuck in a whirlwind of mediocrity . They will win games because they are in a cup cake division but they will have quick exit in the playoffs . and they will be looking for another quarterback with thev 15 pick instead of trying to grab a young quarterback on the market or trading up for a top 5 qb in a future draft

Coach and Team makes a difference, the difference is Ryan’s stats aren’t ever close to the worst , so given the current trend Matt Ryan will most likely have his Best season since 16 and closer to 2016 than 2021. Team and coach matter way more to QB than we like to give credit for and the defending SB champion QB would agree. Ballard is Drafting his QB in 23 or 24. He finally has a QB that will hold the spot for more than 1 year while he finds the replacement . He’s one of the smartest GMs in the league , you really think he’s going to continue this? Gotta disagree with this take, the Falcons were an absolute mess of a team last year (and this year still tbh) and without Ryan they don’t sniff 7 wins, i think his ability to carve up a defense within the structure of the play is up there with the best of them Insert Ryan into an offense with a better OLine, a WAY better run game, and better playcalling and he can do some damage especially playing in the AFC South I have the Colts winning the division and possibly pulling off a wildcard weekend upset

I dunno. The receiver weapons the Colts have is better than the Falcons but is it good enough to help elevate Ryan's game to a 30+ TD season? Hell Wentz himself put up cute numbers with arguably a bottom 7 receiver group and the last time he had 30+ TDs was in 2017 with the Eagles which had a 7th rank receiver group. If the Colts aren't making drastic changes at the QB spot and expect to try lead the division, they need to be even better in the skilled positions on offense to compensate. So if Ryan underachieves, sounds more like the Colts not having a comparable Ridley/Julio punch with the guys they have now at receivers.

Yes but the guy has also been playing behind a bad o line and bad defenses for years now. The colts are pretty good in all facets of the game. Great o line.arguably the best rb in the league, great defense, a a good coach, they draft well, and they are managed well also. This team is going to alleviate pressure for Ryan from many different angles. I think Matt Ryan is easily going to be the best qb they've had since Luck. Playing with a team that helps you (unlike the falcons o line and defense) is probably going to extend his career and push him towards the top 12 range of qbs. In what world do you think Matt Ryan gets 30+ TDs with Pittman Jr whose going to get doubled because the other guys can't separate and the TEs aren't a drastic enough mismatch threat to defenses? And there is no guarantee that a draft pick will be anywhere near as good as him. Wentz was the number 2 pick in the draft. Rg3 was the number 2 pick. You're much more likely to get a leaf. i believe that this problem is due to Ryan Grigson unwilligness to draft o-line in the first rounds before and Luck got broken. Then when Chris Ballard came, it was too late. Give credit to hiring Reich and build a great o-line compared to Pagano. -They started Brissett because Luck's retirement was unexpected. 2019 was dissapointing because of Brissett injury at midseason and Vinatieri horrible season. -The Rivers signing was Bad no because of his perfomance (he was good) but more that he was on the verge of retiring. -I thought the Wentz trade was going to be good because I believed that it was the unability of the players to stay healthy or how unproven was the talent in Phillly. But after this I know it is because of Wentz being uncoachable

Ryan in his current form is far better than noodle arm Rivers was with the Colts. Thats not even debatable. And since you got all hostile about it, a strong case can be made that prime Matt Ryan was every bit as good or better than prime Rivers. Their regular season qb ratings are almost identicle (Ryan's is 94, and Rivers' is 95) and both played with multiple hall of fame pass catchers (Gates/Tomlinson and Jones/Gonzalez) so thats a wash at best. But where Ryan separates himself is the fact that he has a league MVP, had played in a super bowl, and has a career playoff rating of 100.8 vs Rivers' career playoff rating of 85. The Colts went 11-5 with Philip Rivers. Matt Ryan is way better than Philip Rivers was. Matt Ryan is a perfect fit for the Colts and finally has a competent defense for the first time in his career. The Falcons have had 2 100+ yard rushing performances in the last 3 seasons, allowed the most QB hits in the league last season (despite Matt Ryan having one of the fastest average release times), and he's been sacked 40+ times each of the last 4 years. Matt Ryan carried a team that was bottom tier in every single positional group to 7 wins somehow and was still in the playoff hunt through Week 17. Matt Ryan is a perfect fix for everything Wentz struggled with last season, whether it be holding onto the ball too long, refusing to take the short throws for positive yardage, inconsistency, lack of leadership, stupid mistakes, etc. And on top of everything, every report coming out of Indy this offseason about Matt Ryan has been overwhelmingly positive

Ryan has had a statistically "bad" offensive line for every season of his career except two. If the Colts O-line can be as good as people around the league believe, Ryan is going to carve defenses like a Christmas turkey. Atlanta's biggest downfall surrounding Ryan was that they never had the cap room to build a line that was competent enough to protect him over the long term. Protect him and he will produce.

its weird, ur physically right about Matt but its in service being critical of things he was never good at in the first place. He's arguably my favorite QB prospect of all time actually, but there's many times i'll see his team run some sort of variation of PA comebacks and unless the go route down the seams or something similar to that is available i wish they wouldn''t run it, particularly on time, because the depth and the throw difficulty doesn't really play to his strengths as a passer. The thing you'll lose track of over time is that this was an effective attacking concept for them when he had Roddy White, and not simply because even Matt Ryan was younger, but because Roddy White was really good at that route concept and had tremendous feet and body control. But its no different than him being effective on deep ins and outs with Tony Gonzalez or giving Julio a lot of touches in different areas because, maybe he's just really good at playing Quarterback lol. Maybe he has a good feel for getting his guys the football in their sweet spots. We do a disservice to Matt Ryan, by not including him in a list among the greats because it gives off the impression that he lives among average scrubs by comparison and honesty that perception pushed him out of Atlanta unnecessarily. No, its not as easy for him to get the ball down the field as it is for Aaron Rodgers, but it never has been. Never was his game, he's been more skill than Talent at the position and in my opinion, one of the most technically proficient passers of all time. His footwork is on a Rushmore, because he's found a way to get away with not being as talented as other guys and still making it work somehow. i think the title of the video is right actually. i wish someone would do a 30 for 30 like deep dive on the legacy of failure, that is the Irsay family but that has nothing to do with Matt Ryan.

So, you said everything correctly, and then came up with the wrong conclusion. Like, you talked about his coaches being bad, you talked about his team being bad, you talked about how talented he was carving up defenses and making plays so many other QBs wouldn’t, and then you called him mediocre. I mean, what do you want the colts to do? Luck retired, Brisset was bad, Rivers retired (btw we didn’t lose because of rivers, we actually lost because of our field goal kicker), Wentz was not the answer and was also pretty bad in a lot of aspects, we didn’t have a first round pick this year and honestly none of the QBs were good enough to draft anyways. It’s smart that they grab Ryan and profit off of kicking out Wentz and getting Ryan (netting a better second and two thirds (one of which is going to become a second)) so that way Ryan can help us this year with his talent, but also his leadership and playstyle, and can then mentor the QB we draft in this upcoming draft, which has way more good QB depth and we could actually pick up a really good one. Ryan is basically rivers with a way stronger arm, and he’ll be able to utilize all the colts weaponry, including JT and Hines, but also Paris Campbell (granted he stats healthy), our bonified number 1 receiver in MPJ, and also Jelani Woods and Mo-Alie Cox (since he likes his big receiving threats). This is about to be a really good and underrated team this year. I predict a floor of 9-8, definitrly a ceiling of like 13-4, with my prediction being 11-6 being good enough for a playoff birth. Let's go back and see what the Colts should have done. 1. 2019: Luck retires, leaving Brissett as his backup two weeks before the season (two quarterbacks) 2. 2020: Colts bring in Rivers for the 2020 season. They trade their 14th overall pick for Buckner. Two QBs from that class turn out to be great, Herbert and Burrow, that's it. Colts didn't have a chance at either one. 3. 2021: Rivers retires. Colts again have to scramble for a different QB. They bring in Carson Wentz for the next season. The 2021 draft had one QB immediately better than Carson Wentz, Mac Jones in that season. Mac Jones, Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson all picked before the Colts picked at 21. 4. 2022: Colts move on from Wentz to Matt Ryan for a great price if you ask me. Matt Ryan sets the Colts up to be just as competitive as they were with Rivers if not more. As I look back on the years since Luck's retirement, there's not a lot of room there for the Colts to have done something different, not without giving up something that destroyed the team.

I agree there isn't much they could do at QB since the real franchise changing players are all plucked at the top. Thing is they don't have much to show for either when they get a mid tier QB to surround him with lackluster WR talents. The last time Wentz has pushed for a 30+ TD season was in 2017 when the Eagles receiver group was ranked 7th overall. Wentz pushed 27 TDs working with a bottom 7 ranked Colts receiving group. Doesn't bode well for Ryan either as he was used to eating with healthy Julio/Ridley for matchups then pushed out 20tds alone with Kyle Pitts in Arthur Smith's scheme. Now he comes into the Colts with a similarly lowly ranked receiver group that didn't change much a year ago either outside of adding a promising rookie and hoping Paris Campbell is healthy. That is not the way to guarantee a playoff spot and try win from there.

Even if 14-16th best in the league, that’s all Colts need. People don’t realize how deep Colts are at every level. You could definitely make the case they have a weak, or at least inexperienced receiver corp but they’re going to lean on the o-line and JT/Hines and an elite defense.

The Colts will still win the AFC South, they have the best roster in the division by a solid margin, but their playoff ceiling will forever be capped as long as they keep this revolving door of QB's going and the Colts don't seem to have much interest in developing another after the Luck retirement.

Idk why you’re saying still when they haven’t won it in quite sometime. Also they had a better roster than the titans last year and still lost the division, so I wouldn’t be so confident a once again middling colts roster with mediocre receivers and qb and a regressing o-line will win the division.

Your overview of the colts QB problems are so weak. A retirement during training camp, then his back up starting the season, they then brought in Rivers and made the playoffs, then brought in Wentz to be the franchise but the O-line was not good last season and WR was super weak other than Pittman. Ryan is a steadying influence but the WR position is still shaky at best.

I wish you Colts fans the best. I'll just say this ... sign up for NFL + and go watch the Falcons 2021 season. Matt Ryan is an extremely likeable guy. As a result, there's normally a bit of hyperbole when fans talk about his play. Ryan passed for 3968 yards last year. Of the 3968 yards, 1734 yards were yards after the catch. That means that Ryan passed for 2234 yards. That's 131 yards per game, 65.5 yards per half, and 10.9 yards per drive. When you watch the games, you will see that Ryan always checks down his passes, which may work for the Colts, because of how dynamic your rb is. This video is correct about Ryan's accuracy and deep balls. I don't know who creates those stat sheets, but they don't match up with Ryan's play in the field. Matt often throws behind receivers and he always under throws the deep options. Don't take my word for it; just go watch the games and see for yourself. Taylor is the difference maker for the Colts.

Right right, so what the Colts should do with their potentially top 10 defense, top 2 running back, and top 10 offensive line is say OK GUYS!!! NO STAR QB!!! WE'RE GONNA GO WITH JOSH ROSEN THIS YEAR!!! Just take this one off guys. Hard tank. the Colts are doing the best they can under the circumstances. Top 10 QBs almost never even become available. And we didn't have a 1st rd pick, when we find someone we like, we'll make a move for him. Until then.... hopefully Matty Ice stays upright.

Indy is going to make you regret saying they are mediocre because this year will be different. The Colts are stacked on both sides of the ball & only have one glaring hole with the WRs, but they still have cap space and can get another receiver like TY before the season starts. Wentz was a joke and Indy screwed up thinking Reich could make him good but Wentz simply isn't elite and never will be. Ryan can be Elite and has proven that for many years now. Ryan stayed in Atlanta while everyone and everything around him, besides the stadium, was changing for the worse & he has suffered over the last few years. Atlanta would have been the worse team in the league the last 2 years but Ryan still made them competitive despite having glaring holes on both sides of the ball. Remember Ryan asked for a trade & only wanted to go to Indy because he knows they are an Elite QB away from making a legit run & possibly getting him the ring that he had in his grasp a few years ago. I understand what you're saying about having a different QB every year is not the solution but they built this team around Luck and this should be his team. They have consistently had the best draft every year since Ballard took over despite only having a couple 1st round picks the last 6 years. They can't and won't tank for a QB because they have built a fantastic team that keeps them competitive every year even with a different QB at the helm. Ryan is not a permanent solution but he was the best option this year considering who else was available. Houston wouldn't let Indy near Watson and even if they had a chance to trade for him they never would have offered a package like the Browns gave them. Wilson is aging too and I think Denver overpaid for him. Besides all of that this was also the worst draft in recent memory for QBs. So besides Wilson & Watson, Ryan was the best option available & they pretty much got him for nothing. I'm telling you right now the Colts are going to be a huge surprise this season like Cincinnati was last year and they are a Super Bowl contender.

Well 2 retired, Wentz is a mental dumpster fire(He reminds me so much of Jeff George) and the Falcons had one of the worst offensive lines that I`ve ever seen last year. Matt Ryan left every game a bloody mess (literally). The Colts have a great roster and they just added an MVP caliber QB. The Colts will easily win the AFC south and are serious contenders to win the AFC. Matt Ryan is a huge upgrade over Wentz to the point that Ballard and Reich are acting like they won the lottery over this addition. I`m not a Colts fan but the AFC better be on notice.

This is very braindead to not account for. It is not realistic to indict the GM+HC when the franchise qb hangs it up in his prime immediately before the season starts. “What do they have to show for it except Andrew luck?” Yeah no shit dude the reason there’s nothing to show for it is BECAUSE OF ANDREW LUCK!!!

Nice breakdown on the heat map over multiple seasons. That change was evident when watching games but fans really didn’t have stats showing up that were telling the tale of just why things were going wrong. Having watched all their games for years now, I’m happy sad for the change coming in atlanta as it is an end of an era of slightly above average play with a top 10 qb and lopsided offense heavy salary supporting him to a now more balanced budget with a slew of above average talent. It’s all speculation, but the redzone challenges of years past are hopefully gone now with a stable of massive receivers (mostly 6’2-6’5) and a top tier tight end to moss corners or mug them on outside runs and toss plays, especially given two very athletic QBs
