This game is simultaneously not scary at all and scary as fuck. And all the fear is mostly from the player's imagination. Fucking love this shit, it's so cool. It's all about how you make it. You can feel however you want to feel about this game, I call that "relaxing horror", and it's in my opinion the most enjoyable horror game style - you don't have to dread playing the game, but you don't have to feel unafraid either. You're always technically able to reach your comfort zone of how scared you'll let yourself be before it becomes harmful to your long term mental health, while also not feeling unsatisfied that you didn't have a truly scary and possibly life changing experience. In a way I believe it can even be even scarier than the most detailed and dreadful modern horror - it's the thought always itching at the back of your head as you think of such game, "it wasn't spooky at all, it was just a silly simple game... Right?" The constant questioning of your own sanity - if it is just such a simple game, how come you let yourself get so scared? Maybe it has a magical power to make you scared of it, despite appearing so simple on the surface. A truly 'cursed/haunted object' feeling. Hngf goodshit. I've also noticed this often leads to the bizarre phenomenon of players obsessing over the simplistic game to uncover it's 'secrets', as if the game is a self aware living object that can keep giving clues about itself. In the ability of letting the player fill in the gaps in the exact specific way that scares or interests them, the game is in a way unending and undying, which makes it like a truly horrifying movie monster, no? Maybe that style to a lot of people is fucking stupid (completely understandable; I'm casual trash and a shit baby when it comes to scary stuff) but I personally love this shit. Will absolutely buy this game. I hope I see more like it in coming years - provided they're programmed well.

If you're into this more barebones, 1980s-90s throw back I highly recommend imscared. I played it years ago on a whim and it shook me up a lot. Especially since the .exe can create new files or load jpegs into the game folder. It also ends abruptly, much like Anatomy. I'm not sure how to describe it accurately so that I may do the game justice, but it's an absolute treat. It's 3.99 on steam right now and I think somewhere it's free similar to a website like indiedb.
