Matt Savage (solo piano) - "Bicycle Race" by Queen - live at Hobgoblin, Boston, MA, 4/18/24

Pianist Matt Savage plays a jazzy cover of Freddie Mercury's 1978 classic "Bicycle Race" at the Hobgoblin piano bar in downtown Boston. This video was recorded live on April 18, 2024, during Matt's fourth gig at this club.
Is this jazz? Well, technically it is, because it's from one of Queen's best-selling albums, entitled "Jazz"! But it also has a very difficult key cycle for a rock tune, which makes it ripe for odd-meter modern jazz adventures, a la Chris Potter or Billy Childs.
Matt Savage has held a sort of residency at Hobgoblin since November 2023, so there will be more of these pop covers as the months go on...
