Matt Stephens Chases Fabian Cancellara | Sigma Sports

Pitting Matt Stephens against Fabian Cancellara, we headed out to Switzerland to join Spartacus for the Chasing Cancellara Zurich to Zermatt recon ride. Taking in some of the region's most spectacular climbs, this was not going to be an easy ride for Matt, but then again Mr Stephens had a plan for tackling the mammoth ride.

I remember watching Spartacus defending a yellow jersey and getting dropped on a big climb and then descending alone to catch the GC guys. I'd never seen descending like it. My favourite racer since that day. He rode a short time trial like he was trying to tear the bike apart. A monster.

Beautiful ride, I did 5500 meters once in preparation for Marmotte Alps. Only 180 km, so it was basically just up and down. A hot day. Those french public foutains with drinking water are fantastic. I was totally knackered. But happy.

Matt never fails to entertain! And Spartacus is such a good sport! I think one thing Pinnarello could have done for this promo video is to have an extra battery pack at one of the stop overs for Matt to switch out. Or better yet, he could have started the ride with both the battery and the drive pack (Fazua) out of the bike and only a blank filler plate installed. As the pitch increased, he could have then quickly swapped out the filler plate for the battery and drive pack (stored in the van). That would have shown how the Fazua system works. The nice thing about Fazua is that if you don't need the motor and battery, you can remove it to lighten the bike. Matt, please do another video like this and the ebike. How about with Alberto Contador, as a follow up to one of your previous interview videos?

@Edwin Jansen I agree on the just ride your bike part of your comment but what i'd like to stress is that I would prefer if the UCI were more transparent in their doing and rule enforcement, sure it's just a rumor but here and there many weeknesses of the system come to light, I believe it's mostly about being fair to all pro riders, we amateurs just have fun on the roadside or on TV while they are very much exposed to this kind of controversies in their day jobs, it should be quite straight forward to investigate in such grey zones
