Fun fact: in the actual anime, those 3 characters in the helicopter that Cell blew up were filler characters, apprentices of Mr. Satan (plus a female announcer), and both "fought" Cell before Mr. Satan. They stuck around for the entire rest of the "tournament" too, but TFS hated them so much they just edited them out of every scene. If you watch closely in the following episodes, you can easily spot places where it's pretty clear (and if you watch REALLY closely, you might spot the one scene they actually forgot to edit them out of).

Going by the creator commentary it seemed to be mainly Scott, the writer/editor, who was fueled by enough spite to wipe them from every following scene. The rest of the gang just had no objections to it.

and the blood effect just makes the abridged version SO much better! rather than mr. satan landing several "hits" on cell, he just goes straight for the punch before getting sent flying. and rather than the cartoonishly goofy impact in the original, his "corpse" just slides down the wall with a blood streak and squishing sound! so much funnier and it is a great cliffhanger with mr. satan looking like he might be dead! XD

So, I don't know if this is the actual reason, but recently Akira Toriyama passed away and a lot of people were watching Dragonball and doing tribute videos and stuff, so the people who owned Dragonball had a HEAVY copyright wave and took down a lot of stuff surrounding it. Fun fact: Krillin talking about getting Tambourined is a Dragon Ball reference, cause Tambourine, one of Piccolo's children basically did the same thing Cell did, but with a kick, as well as being a very one-sided fight. Blowing my mind with that Jimmy Firecracker/Nappa comparison. Damn, Cell is savage against Mr. Satan, and it never gets old. Also, the bum fights thing is a reference to some guy who looks just like Mr. Satan. Looks like he's on public transit, and I guess they rolled with it and made this Mr. Satan homeless and got famous in bum fights until Nappa came along. Glad to see you sticking up for Krillin, cause yeah, the gulf between Krillin and Mr. Satan is vast. Another fun fact: Those people who Cell blew up in the helicopter were actually Mr. Satan's students, two of which are wrestler references to Big Van Vader and Shawn Michaels. Mostly because their editor Scott hates them and didn't want to write for them. I don't blame him in the slightest. Man, these episodes are so good, and it's only gonna get better.

So!! The offical stance on Mr. Satan is that hes about 6-12 times stronger than an average human. In OG Dragon Ball, his master was one shot by Mercenary Tao, it shocked him to the core and he refused to accept Qi energy was real and refused to learn it. Like, legit, if Mr. Satan were to learn qi it would be concerning how powerful he might actually be. As for DBZA Mr. Satan, same backstory as above, however he knows full well that Qi is real, he knows hes out matched, and he has to pretend to be MR!! SATAN!!! For the money, fame, and later because he IS the heart of humanity and he has to keep it up to keep humanity from deatrying itself. Both versions end up getting blackmailed by 18 in the Buu saga

"well actually" Mr Satan and his master tried to rob Mercenary Tao in dragon ball, and he refused to accept Qi was an actual thing, leading to Mr Satan we see in the og series. In dbza, he just never got around to it and coasted on his freakish strength and fame from the Mr Satan title he got when fighting actual demons, also to get money and fame from the tournament. That said, could you imagine how dangerous he would be if he actually got training? He also trained child Videl and it's one of the reasons why she can master qi so fast.
