@@anonyousperson Maia (Hermes’ mother) and Leto (the twins’ mother) were daughters of two different sets of titans, so not sisters. Though Aphrodite *was* related to them in a way. I know everyone is mentioning the big misunderstanding with Telemachus, but there's another misunderstanding. "Let him feel the pain that his mother felt and rot" is not about the cyclops. Aphrodite was saying that instead of returning home to his mother, Odysseus was busy spiting the Cyclops. She's saying let him (Odysseus) feel the pain that his mother felt (waiting endlessly unable to see a loved one) and rot (stay trapped on the island.) Aphrodite isn't connected to the cyclops. If Polyphemus was her child she would not have been convinced like that.

Also fun fact. I'm pretty sure you know about Athena's quick thought ability by now. Being her brother, Ares also has a type of quick thought ability (his os darker, focuses on anger) and he breaks into her quick thought when she uses it on Aphrodite. By the end of that part it's a quick thought, within a quick thought, within a quick thought (because Athena takes control back). Just a nice lil touch on the abilities of the gods.

The most disappointing thing about Jorge is his naming sense. I will forever hold it against him that he thought a stupid name like "Dark Quick Thought" was a good idea. One can likely infer what happened on that island, but some book quotes. “In the nights, true, / he’d sleep with her in the arching cave - he had no choice - / unwilling lover alongside lover all too willing” Odysseus “sat on a headland, weeping there as always, / wrenching his heart with sobs and groans and anguish, / gazing out over the barren sea through blinding tears” Regardless of what is said outright in epic or not, the implication still remains, and the keeping him there for 7 years and pushing his boundaries constantly, is plenty enough. @kristinakostic238810 күн бұрын
Telemachus: Give me hydras and a cyclops *wanting to fight monsters and have "adventures"* Odysseus: ALL I HEAR ARE SCREAMS! *for the past ten years* Telemachus is Odysseus' son and in the vision we see Odysseus, not a future/older Telemachus. Calypso is trapped on her island as punishment from the gods for standing beside her Titan father during an attempted rebellion/war. She was a very young goddess, so whether she understood the full scale of what happened or not is up for debate. However, because she's stuck on her island, Odysseus' arrival for her was the greatest miracle and almost any other man (or woman, really) would be thoroughly seduced by paradise and a goddess willing to love you/obsess over you. Odysseus, however, only wanted to go home so this was effectively the worst possible punishment for someone like him. And because Calypso and her island were cursed by the gods, no one can leave without their say so, hence "Divine intervention~" Also, Ancient Greek myths rarely mess with concepts of time or the perception of time outside maybe the Underworld. So, yeah, Odysseus felt every second of those 7 years. Open Arms is the most haunting song of EPIC, even though Just A Man is without a doubt the most repeated motif. (Besides the general danger motif) Funny you should mention "Just don't give him another crew and leave my boy at home, please" 😂 because there are versions of the Odyssey where Odysseus actually goes on yet another journey and never returns and there are speculations whether he died or simply returned to Calypso's island to live in paradise for the rest of his days. Athena is indeed connected with snakes (many gods are, for some reason), but it's interesting to know that Athena cursed Gorgon/Medusa after she was, unfortunately, SA-ed. She used to be a priestess and had made a vow/pledge of virginity in Athena's name (as one of the only 3 virgin goddesses of Ancient Greece) in some versions, while in others she was basically pretty much just a beautiful maiden but Posideon took her against her will in Athena's temple so Athena cursed her. Her head was later cut off by the hero Perseus and used as a weapon to turn his foes to stone before he gave it to Athena to place on her shield. Btw getting EPIC into theaters is pretty much the goal, so let's hope Jay manages it!
@songweretson10 күн бұрын
Goddesses are connected with snakes because they were the symbol of the main goddess worshiped in ancient Europe waaay back. But the details were absorbed into later mythologies, the Greeks in particular
@kristinakostic238810 күн бұрын
@songweretson Well, yes, but so are gods and neither gods nor goddesses are ever randomly connected with snakes - or anything, for that matter, there's always some "logical" reason. Snakes are usually animals/symbolism of healers or cthonic beings and deities, connected to life and death almost equally because poison can also be a cure/antidote. So it's interesting that a primarily war goddess like Athena has a connection with snakes

Calypso says he talks in his sleep, right? There’s a fan theory that, on the cliff, she said all those things deceased loved ones said in order to stop him from jumping. Seven years. You sacrificed your crew, and you end up on an island only gods, or those they send there, can get to. Seven years being pushed to love a delusional goddess. That final cry to Athena was his Hail Mary. It had been ten years since their big fight. He didn’t even know if she still cared or not, but, with everything in him, Odysseus screams for her aid, or he’ll jump to end the pain. Here’s some fun parallels for you: “Close your eyes, and spare yourself the view.” “Just keep your eyes open.” “Just let me close my eyes.” It came full circle. He didn’t believe he’d see home again. He wanted to spare himself the view.

48:13 Athena was the one who who cursed/blessed the women who would become Medusa, along with the owl Athena is also represented with a snake sometimes hence all the snakey-ness in this particular animatic. Due to the circumstances of a situation that happened in one of Athenas temples between a priestess of hers and Posiden, most stories day the goddess cursed the priestess as punishment for her actions within her temple. Other stories say that Athena blessed the priestess so that she may never again be forced into such a situation again. (Snake hair, petrifying gaze and half snake tail probably does help with that.) This has been supported by shelters being uncovered with the symbol of Medusa, thought to be a place for women to go for protection. @roundestleaf9 күн бұрын
Well, I can see how that didn't immediately tip him off, because this could have been the "continuation" of the Warrior of the Mind flashback. Telemachus didn't even ask for her name and immediately adressed her as Athena at the end of Little Wolf. And Telemachus' surprise at her sudden appearance and her quick thought ability could also have been plausibly a reaction by a young Odysseus who only met Athena once before and is now experiencing quick thought for the first time in a fight. I found it really funny, however, when it was never questioned why Athena says that Ody's son is her friend in God Games 😂 Ah well, it really shows that once someone is stuck in a mindset, the brain will twist everything so that it fits with that idea

Most likely you have already heard, but from the saga of wisdom: from "legendary" to "well be fine" it is Telemachus of the present spoken of his father and how the suitors harass his mother Penelope as well as he befriends Athena, then in Love in the Paradise they show what had happened after Zeus and how he got to the island of Calypso, to finally show how Odysseus is 7 years later (present) , and then the last song is Athena trying to convince the other gods to free Ody from Calypso Island, also add that Telemachus in the present is 20 years old, Odysseus left when he was a baby and spent 10 years in the Trojan War approximately 3 years from "Full Speed Ahead" to "Thunder Bringer" and 7 years locked up on Calypso Island until the present (for this reason in Legendary there is a part that says 20 have passed and we are still without a king, in addition to the question "where is he?".

Please please please, watch the livestream for the Vengeance Saga! I think being so soon after it's come out, that'll be the most enjoyable experience. And maybe later you could make another video watching other animatics!

I find it funny that if you had just seen duvets version of legendary (not saying the one you chose was bad or anything) it says in the start "7 years later"

This is so funny to me because you're a _really_ smart person and catch thingsthat almost no one else finds. I've normally seen other reactors watch the same things many times over before your reactions come out, and you're still pointing out new details to me in media I've watched countless times. So you never realizing that the Wisdom Saga features Telemachus, even through "I'll teach you all the lessons your daddy never could" and "I had a friend before and he was a lot like you", is _so_ funny to me. Even brilliant people have their moments of confusion :)

I just got out of class, this is such a nice thing to come home too Pffft, I know you’re aware that this is Telemachus now, but just to clarify everything else. Those other people were the suitors. Since Ody has been gone for 20 years and there is no king a bunch of men have come to the palace to seek Penelope’s hand in marriage. Penelope and Telemachus have been stalling for time, but the suitors are getting impatient.

Story Time: Before the gods, the titans were in charge. Beating them put Zues on the throne. All of the Titans' allies were imprisoned in various ways. This includes Calypso who was simply the child of one of them. She was stuck on an abandoned island basically forever. She is as much a prisoner as Ody.

One thing I think perhaps more of that animators should take up is clearly labelling that this is Telemachus 7yrs later like Jorge did on his livestream.

"We'll be fine" is one of my favorite songs from the musical because Telemachus just sees how upset Athena is and wants to help her and maybe a stranger in the process. He doesn't even know that it's his father he's helping. Like Athena says, he's a good kid.

Besides missing that this was telemachus, the story of her just restarting time to train him and try to keep his humanity sounds like a badass story

Something cool about Ares that i love is that since he's a sibling to Athena, he has dark quick, though. So that's how he entered her quick, though, because he took it over until she fought to take it back.
@wynnefox7 күн бұрын
So fun thing with Love in Paradise, if you go back to the songs that were featured in the beginning when Athena was reviewing history, you'll actually hear Athena's theme pop in the music, signifying Athena is watching Ody at those moments. It wasn't something i noticed on the first watch through but some more musical expert inclined reactors pointed it out and it is a absolutely brilliant thing to do by Jorge. Calypso is a Titan goddess and was trapped on that island by Zeus. She is the goddess of secrets. It is generally thought that Ody was intentionally. In God Games, Jorge made the point that Ares and Athena actually have close to the same abilities. So when Athena used quick thought on Aphrodite, Ares was able to break in because he has that ability too. Athena's is based in that Wisdom school, clarity of thought and calmness of mind. While Ares' quick thinking is based in rage and impulsive thinking with out consideration. Also, Apollo is a total man-slute and is so problematic. Him being cute is intentional, at the same time If you ever hear any of the stories involving him, I think the only one that is bigger problem is Zeus himself. In terms to who who is linked to who: Scylla has a lot of complex origins, but my favorite was was one of Circe's nymphs that Poseidon fell in love with. When she didn't return his love, he merged her with the pack of 6 wolves that would endlessly hunger. The transformation went to far though and now even Poseidon is scared of her... And then Medusa and Athena... OH BOY... that one is messy and is also linked to Poseidon's lusts. Medusa was Athena's most devout and loyal priestesses. To the point she also took the vow of chastity too like Athena and was a damn good fighter. But what Medusa is most known for is her beauty, kindness, and wisdom. People would come from all over just to see her, get guidance, or get help. This also attracted Poseidon, who like many of the male gods, has trouble checking himself. Then the war of Athens happened which was forces supported by Athena (Odysseus and his allies) kick the asses of forces supported by Poseidon (Hector and his allies). In part of his rage of losing, he cursed Odysseus, who was key to victory to never go home... Then he went to the temple of Athena and did the non-consensual sexual assault on Medusa in the middle of Athena's temple. Why Athena "cursed" Medusa for this is up to some discussion/argument on all this. Some said Athena was in a rage at the desecration of head priestess and temple (and losing her favorite general, Odysseus at sea) and took her rage out on Medusa and transformed her into a hideous creature. Others say Athena took pity on Medusa's trauma and made her as ugly as her sisters and gave her the 'gift' to turn people into stone with just a look so she can better protect herself. Either way, that is why you see Athena having Medusa's imagery with her with many artist's depictions. Something I'd like to point out on Neal's version of God Games is that Neal makes a point to have all these statues of Zeus in all sorts of different poses showing off his godly self except one... which he holds baby Athena in his arms. It's the only godly depiction other than himself in his chambers, showing that Athena is the only god Zeus really cares about besides himself.

Scylla in one story is the daughter of Poseidon and Keto and was cursed by Circe because Circe loved Glaucus(god of fishermen) who was in love with Scylla, this is alluded to in the song with her singing Die in the blood where you bathe, Circe poisoned the water where she bathed

Suggestions for Vengance saga: - Not sorry for loving you: by Clover - Dangerous: by Ximena Natzel or Scilla nimation (full animatic) - Charybdis: by Lemonpoet - Get in the water: by Willows (that isn't the full song tho) so alternatively by MessyMoonMess - Six hundred strike: by Duvetbox ❤

Okay but that would make such a cool story, Athena going back in time constantly! And given how young odysseus was when he took the throne and the culture of the proven strongest gets to rule I would have loved to see scenes like little wolf for odysseus.
