The thing is, it's Poseidon's trident. His own weapon. It can't kill him, but it can sure enough HURT him REALLY good. Especially when he's not actually the one wielding it. (And the Greek Gods were not really big on being in pain, see Ares and how tough he seemed but how often he got humiliated in battle and did not like the sight of his on blood, if I recall correctly)

The wind bag is because it traps Poseidon’s storm, Poseidon made it to prevent ody from getting home, but with the wind bag the storm wont stop him because it’s trapped inside, so if it gets opened, the storm is released, and will prevent him from getting home(at least that is what i understand about it tho i might be wrong)

Them simply sealing Poseidon's storm and hiding it away would have interfered with Poseidon's domain big time and likely would have had him pissed at them instead. By putting the bag back in Ody's hands again it becomes a game of risk because he has already used the winds in the bag to yeet out of a situation once.

I assume the windbag reappears because the storm never left. Poseidon designed it to stand between Odysseus and Ithica forever. So the storm has to be caught and stuffed into the bag to clear the way home. And since it was opened the last time the storm was freed again, the gods (presumably Hermes, Athena, Aolis) had to re-capture the winds. And this act of support by gods only happened because Athena fought for Odysseus (to release him and help him against Poseidon).

It goes back to the whole thing of the Greek Pantheon being made less about teaching people morality and how something is right or wrong, and more about teaching people how the world works, what the correct way of thinking is, and the correct way of doing things etc. It's even something you see with Athena in this musical as well. None of the other Gods are really the type to change their ways at all. And yet Athena, as the Goddess of Wisdom, is one who is capable of reflecting on her past actions and changing her ways. Much like wise men and women would. She, as a Goddess of Wisdom, is serving as an example on the correct way to be wise.

The only things that would've hurt them was each other and they dont fight each other (at least the big boys like Zeus and him dont fight). So my personal interpretation of why Poseidon agreed to call off the storm and let him go (and doesnt' later sink ithaca) is he realized Odysseus finally learned the lesson. That in some way he had succeeded, making Ody close off his heart, killing the person Ody used to be, so that when he does go home, he's the monster, not the man. And to me that last bit asking him how he can sleep at night isn't some "how could you do this" sort of thing, but more Posiedon trying to get the last line, reminding Odysseus just how much of a monster he's become, but Ody wasn't having it. 'Cause he gets to go home. Also I know some others have said so, but the animatics in the live stream are actually commissioned BY Jorge. Now that you're caught up, check out his shorts and videos. He includes a lot of extra information and tidbits about things, including videos of the references he sent the animators for certain animatics. The one of Hermes dancing is a fun one.

So it’s not the first time he’s seen them as he works quite closely with every animator as I understand, you can also find some funny shorts of the dances he sends the artists for the animatics, like for Hermes and God Games Oh and for why Poseidon most likely won’t or can’t just wait and go after Ody again is that Zeus ruled that he can go home. Jorge has stated that Poseidon's instrument is the trumpet. That trumpet you heard in "Get in the Water" when Odysseus sang "maybe you can learn to forgive" was intentional - Jorge has a relatively recent tiktok explaining it! Odysseus' instrument is the guitar - acoustic for the sweeter, gentler moments, and electric when he uses his cunning/strategy mind (you hear the electric guitar during moments in The Horse and the Infant, Survive, Remember Them, Puppeteer)

But help doesn't come for free, whether asked for or not, so since they already helped him by removing the storm(s), it's up to him to keep the storm with him. It's Odysseus' responsibility, because that storm was directly meant to stop him. I don't know if this is formulated properly, I'm shite at expressing my thoughts, but that's somewhat how I understood it. It's a test.

My favorite thing about this saga is that there is no actual vengeance in it. It's more so about the effects of holding on to grudges and desires for vengeance and how destructive that can be. Okay maybe I lied, maybe my favorite part is that Odysseus straight up proved Poseidon's "Ruthlessness is mercy on ourselves" philosophy wrong to him at the end there because if Poseidon had been merciful one song earlier when he was literally offering him forgiveness, he wouldn't have gotten stabbed. Odysseus had to convince him this way because that was the only way, he tried everything else but in the end the only language Poseidon understood was that of blood. Except yk, now Poseidon can live with the fact that if he hadn't clung to his ruthlessness here, or even hadn't drowned Odysseus' fleet, it would have saved him all of this trouble and pain. Aka it was actually his own ruthlessness that bit him in the a** here instead of being "mercy on himself" as he keeps claiming it is. I sincerely hope he gets a good long extensive existential crisis out of it, he deserves it

Charybdis (Prounounced Kar-rib-dis) is associated with Scylla in the original, where oddysseus encounters it when he unfortunately drifts back towards Scylla's strait after leaving Calypso's island, Scylla and Charbybdis have a kind of deal going on they each block one halve of the straits entrance so that no one can sail past without facing one of them, though picking Scylla is allways the better optionm as she only takes 6 people (12 if youre too slow) meanwhile Charybdis sucks in the entire ship and eats everyone abort all at once. unlike Scylla Charybdis is never given a real description nor is it explained where it comes from, just some big aquatic monster that sucks in water 3 times a day.

She didn't rape him, and there's debate on whether she personally kept him trapped on the island. Further, the whole "this is a guilt trip and a manipulation tactic" is just pure interpretation on y'all's part. You're not wrong, but you're not right, either. Other interpretations exist, especially with a story told in one and two thirds songs. To me, the song is selfish, it's messy, but it is genuine - Calypso is being told, no ifs and or buts, that Odysseus is leaving, Will of the Gods type shit. She's going to be sentenced to eternal isolation again, and she knows that Odysseus will never agree to stay. NSFLY is a vent. It's Calypso's final moment to express herself to anyone before she's alone again, and so she just vents. It's why she refuses to let Odysseus get a word in edge-wise, because it's not about *him* personally. He gets to go home, forget about everything, and there's nothing he can say that'll change anything. It is selfish, but, again, I'm surprised this is considered so outrageous considering that Calypso is an emotionally and mentally stunted individual. What do people expect?

@@advenaphillips8872people are conflating the original story with Epic. In the original it’s pretty explicit, whereas in Epic it’s left to interpretation. Either way, she was forged into isolation at such a young age, never to see the world or meet its people. She craves some form of connection and intimacy, and once she has it she will do whatever she can to maintain it. Is it toxic? Yeah. Can I necessarily blame her? Not really. She is meant to be a very complicated character with lots of flaws that don’t excuse her behavior but does explain why she is the way she is. It’s what makes Greek mythology so interesting to me. The Gods are flawed and reactionary, the heroes make a LOT of mistakes, and good doesn’t always triumph. One thing that’s not up to debate though is her song is great!

i feel like part of the reason posiden gave in so quickly is because that "i can't" in get in the water seems to tell me this is something posiden doesn't inherently WANT to do- he'd much rather this never have happened. It's something he feels he HAS to do so the world doesn't see him as too merciful and abuse that. When Odysseus goes as far as to actually harm a god, even if they can't die, it's probably a mix of feeling pain for the first time in a WHILE and feeling that this isn't just a regular "man" he's losing to he can finally give in. "I am neither man nor mythical" after all

I dont understand how people can HATE Calypso as much as they do.. its like they just dont understand deeper feelings than good vs evil. Calysp is neither. She was trapped on that island by Zeus as a literal child because she sided with her father in a war between titans and gods. Her punishment is literal loneliness. The secondary curse is depending on what myth you read and the author, some say she was also cursed to fall deeply in love with any man sendt to the island, because it would be Zeus himself that sendt him there, no one finds her island by accident. She was literally alone for hundreds of years, where would she have learned right from wrong? She HAS no map of 'this is acceptable and not'. AND she was trying her best to make Ody comfortable and accept the life of the island, because as far as she knows, he would never leave, he would literally never be able to see his wife and son again. She knows only what Zeus told her, This island nobody come or go, that only Zeus is able to let people on and off the island. That she does know because Zeus made sure she knew that. Zeus also had no intention of letting him leave the island, and if it wasn't for Athena he never would have. She is also a god and can not understand the full complexity of feelings a human has, its like a human trying to fully understand the feelings of a cat or dog, like we can enterpet some of it, but we have no way of knowing 100%. Its not HER spell as in she controls it, Its her spell as it 'it was meant for her'. She has no control of the island. Its Zeus's spell with Posedion's storm keeping them trapped.

You should watch the Dangerous animatic made by Orange, it's so good. It's definitely one of the best and it adds that "god of the travelers" part to Hermes, as well as a more profound look to Odysseus emotion when he's given the bag. It's a must in my opinion if you do a rewatch with animatics, and I think you've never watched an Orange animatic.
