The DID condition and personal relationship with Khonshu are one of the rare examples of a retcon actually greatly improving a character. In the original stories, the Lockley and Grant characters weren't really dissociative personas, just disguises that Spector maintained. He would sometimes mention having a little trouble "getting out of the head" of one of his disguises, especially Lockley the cabbie, but it was never treated as delusional, just behavioral. Ellis' run made pronounced changes to the character and ignored some of his decades of history, but unlike so many other retcons, Ellis made the character vastly more compelling.

The multiple-personas predates Ellis, though, going all the way back to MK's original run: in Doug Moench's run (from the late '70s!) Marlene is rarely sure which persona she was addressing, for example.
@ricosuave6898
@ricosuave6898 3 жыл бұрын
@@AmanojakuX I disagree. I'm not going to restate my post, except to reiterate that Spector never lost touch with reality in his original books; he always knew he was Spector and thought of Grant and Lockley as characters (barring story driven moments of extreme duress). And Marlene wasn't "rarely" sure who she was speaking to, except that, somewhat oddly, she consistently spoke to him as Grant even though she originally met him as Spector. She would really only bring up the "who am I talking to"thing when they were fighting, which to be fair, was a lot.

I've always been into more psychological-driven characters, so this Moon Knight fella with his DID sounds like a fun time, and just the fact that humans can't handle that kind of strain and how that reflects through Moon Knight makes it seem like this series takes psychology more seriously which is fantastic. Like the "I never want to be loved" dialogue. That changes someone and for the worse. I imagine Moon Knight eventually giving into his broken mental state, 'cause Moon Knight can't have a happy ending. It's way too late for him. And that could lead to a pretty great arc haha. Great video :)

One of the great things about Moon Knight is that he leaps into situations that any normal person would pause. The absolutely insane and macabre villains that would be more suited to a Dr. Strange, mean nothing to him. Unlike Bruce Wayne, he literally cut off his arch-nemesis' face. MK lives in a brutal world without mercy.

I always hate amnesia stories where the person's first question is "who am I?" Why is that one of the first questions? How often do you think about who you are? In any meaningful sense? I could potentially see myself going for hours without realizing that. At the very least, they should lead up to that. The "where am I" is a reasonable start, since they don't recognize their location. Then, you think "ok, where was I last night?", then they realize they don't know that either. And then they think "Ok, let's walk this back. So I was at my house, which is....where again?". THEN they can think "why do I not know where I live?", and then you go down the rabbit hole of "trying to remember anything at all".

Damn, he's truly the embodiment of mentally broken. That's what makes me like his character more than character like Spider-Man because Moon Knight has real problems and doesn't babysit his enemies. He gets the job done and calls it a night. I never got the chance to read his stories, but when I start buying issues again Moon Knight's entire collection is where I'll begin.

@@br9760 Not over hyping anything. I'm not telling anyone to buy his title over Spider-Man's. Simply stating how interested I am in the character and what I don’t like about the other. I've read some Moon Knight and a lot of Spider-Man. I personally would prefer to get back into Moon Knight's more. You seem to be taking it way more personally. I just never liked Spider-Man's style of dealing with enemies and other things when I read his titles during the 90s. I felt the character wasted his potential back then. Same thing with Superman. Interesting for a while then same old, same old. It's not the boy scout thing cause I always enjoy Captain America. I'm just on and off when it comes to Spidey and Supes.

I Leaning towards the dark, found a great interest in the moon Knight. I understand the depth of religious paradox. At this time Khufu is in a dark mood. But yet what if we bring out his human side? The new figure of Moon knife as the plague doctor is very interesting especially during this time of a world-wide pandemic. I think the artist could not help but to incorporate subconscious knowledge.

The newest run just started, and it looks to be playing on some of the themes you identified here with its new villain, the Hunter's Moon, who claims to be the left hand of Konshu while Marc is the right. Also worth noting Max Bemis' run which, for better or worse, tried to explore a relationship with a sun God avatar as adversary. It wasn't that great, but it stands as an example of how the series has continued to explore these themes.

I really enjoyed it! It definitely reads like a continuation of Ellis' run and brings some closure to the ideas here, but I especially loved the way it played around with perceptions and dimensions. Might eventually do a video on that run, as well.

First issue of Ellis’ run actually has the guy who becomes Black Spectre question why they aren’t arresting Moon Knight, to which the chief of police responds that if he saw the “dangerous vigilante Moon Knight” he would arrest him, but since Mr. Knight helps with police work and is really good at solving crimes they turn a blind eye if he’s in the suit.
