Matted Persian Cats Full Clip
Little Persian Chinchilla, Pearl visited for her usual - a full clip. Pearl's coat has a tendency to matt rather quickly as she has one of those very cotton wool type coats. So, the best thing for her to keep her short with a clip and to keep on top of those matts getting too out of hand.
Our longhaired cats do take a lot of looking after, but if you make it a habit every day for just a few minutes, then it will save your cat from getting matted.

My Missy kitty is wild. She barely let's us pet her. She has a couple big mats on her back. The vet gave us gabapentin but even that doesn't help much. Any advice would be great

Hi there, it all comes down to persistency. You need to try and groom or pet her every single day and slowly over time she will allow you to do so for longer and longer. It can take time so you have to keep going and don't give up. We have witnessed a viscious cat that hated everything and everyone completely turn around to loving being groomed, but it did take 18 months of me visiting every few months to groom him and in between his Mum tried every day to do more and more with him. Finally, we had the breakthrough. We were all in tears when his Mum rang me to tell me that he actually runs to the grooming area as soon as she picks up his brushes to wait for her to start.

Hiya Susan, thanks for your questions. No I never wet bath a cat. I did when i was in London training as I was in a grooming salon, but as a mobile groomer, it is very difficult to carry all your equipment into people's homes, and also it takes forever to dry a cat's coat thoroughly, so I opted for dry bathing which is basically foam shampoos and conditioners being placed on the pusscat's coat. If you look in the description of all my videos, I do list the products that I use. There are only a handful of them as the main object of grooming is to promote the cats natural oils through their coat,. However, sometimes, there is a need for some extra conditioning or soothing of skin products after shaving etc.

Seeing how you are with the same cat as me. My vets judged me... and it's it's good to know his matted fur isn't my fault. Plus my vets cut his skin and were man handling him really rough. I was in tears when I got back home. Never took him a vet again as it scared me and him. But he is so matted!

Hiya Tina, Yes it can be a dilemma of what to do with your cat once they get so matted. I know many of my clients feel dreadful when they bring their cats to me in such a state, but I say, at least you are here with them now. Although I could have done with them sooner to make the job a little easier. It is always difficult with any living creature not to nick them with clippers if they are particularly fidgety, but thankfully, that hasn't happened too many times with me. Because I also trained in animal healing and communication, I use those skills to help keep my pusscats quiet on the table , as well as lots of patience and love. They pick up on any negative energy and that is when they can start misbehaving. Cats have taught me a lot over the years. You could do with finding yourself a decent groomer, we are few and far between, that is the problem. Or if you can keep watching my videos and try some of the techniques yourself on your pusscat. It really is not nice for them if they are matted all over. It is very painful and restrictive for them. Just concentrate on one section at a time until it is free of matts. It will take time but you can do it. Hope that helps Anita

I do get a lot of Persian's to groom and they are such sweeties. They generally just want to watch what you are doing and have cuddles. I can't resist!
