Quote Marina: Yes It's the only way. I must return to the sea, where I was born; where I belong. Only through my death can I keep my love for the prince true, and pure. And perhaps, when I have turned to sea foam, foam upon the waves, I may yet find a way to be of service to my prince, and to others. For though his heart was never meant to be mine, never the less I have learned the meaning of true love. I want to be with him and around him, always, even if it is only in the form of a clear, fine, sea foam 😢😢

I just watched this movie for the first time in 20 years and I'm crying like a kid. It is way more touching and beautiful than the Little Mermaid of Walt Disney (and also very sad and frustrating). Even as a kid I preferred this version, I used to find Marina prettier than Ariel.

The one I have been waiting for since my birth, it's you... The joy of knowing the first love, it's you.. Even if a storm hits We have no fear because we are together The white pearl you hold... Without love one is always alone no matter where they are, they are alone The one I have been waiting for since my birth, it's you... Darling show me what happiness is all about... Even if we must say a sorrowful farewell I will love always love you, I will never forget you!

The prince was not a jerk for not loving her. You can't be forced to love somebody. The prince treated her well; he was kind and good to Marina. He loved her a sister. He risked his own life to save her from the wolfs. At the end of the movie; the prince felt sad for Marina's tragic end. The only one who deserved a bad ending was that stupid cat.

I'm just like Marina. I can't blame the Prince. It's as if I loved him too, as if I also let him go. She knew what the consequences would be, and loved him more than her own life. That's true love. And he DID love her! He was gonna marry her, and you can't even say the Princess of the Sumio kingdom got in the way because he thought that was Marina! So in a way, he always loved her and not the Princess. I will love this movie forever. ♥

Like how the little mermaid 's transformation into a human girl was a agonizing experience for her because it literally split her tail in half to make legs. And because her transformation from mermaid to human was an inherently unnatural thing it caused every step she took to feel like she was walking on sharp swords, so she was in constant agony moving around. And the sea witch cut out her tongue. No magic spell removing her voice, but literally having her tongue removed.

Except for the stupid talking cat, that never got wth, I love how in this movie, as in the book, the villain wasn't the Witch but... reality...
@klein43015 жыл бұрын
The Witch is a villain, we clearly see that she loves to unleash violent storms to terrorize the merpeople and sink ships. The Witch causes Marina's death. The Witch is a seer, she saw the future, she knew very well that Marina would die. So yes, the Witch of the Sea is a real Villain and unlike the Villains of other fairy tales, she has won. In a Japanese Story Book dedicated to this film, it is revealed that the talking cat is the Familiar of an evil Wizard (Lord Chamberlain) who aims to oust the Prince and conquer his kingdom ... But a prophecy had warned the Wizard and the Cat that if the Prince had married "The voiceless woman from the sea (Marina)" their plans of conquest would have failed.
@derek82823 жыл бұрын
As an adult, I now see the Witch as a neutral and fair party. She offered a trade, laid out the consequences, and made sure Marina agreed to it with full understanding. Then she even offered her a way out. The Witch, in a way, was teaching Marina a heavy life lesson. The Witch may have guessed Marina would die, but also knew she would acquire a human soul and become immortal, so I agree she's not evil.
@michaelfang1393 Жыл бұрын
@@klein4301 Yeah, the witch is a villain but unlike Disney, this witch was very little involved, just one gift of her power is the cause dos Marina's downfall. She wasn't even manipulative either to chase after her or interfere if she wins her love.

“Each of the young princesses had a little plot of ground in the garden, where she might dig and plant as she pleased. One arranged her flower-bed into the form of a whale; another thought it better to make hers like the figure of a little mermaid; but that of the youngest was round like the sun, and contained flowers as red as his rays at sunset. She was a strange child, quiet and thoughtful; and while her sisters would be delighted with the wonderful things which they obtained from the wrecks of vessels, she cared for nothing but her pretty red flowers, like the sun, excepting a beautiful marble statue. It was the representation of a handsome boy, carved out of pure white stone, which had fallen to the bottom of the sea from a wreck. She planted by the statue a rose-colored weeping willow.”
